Anyone working with the WDTV Live Plus
« on: November 25, 2010, 09:55:54 pm »
I just bought one of these and hacked it last night.  It's a sweet device and was able to discover all of my files on my LMCE NAS and now I can play them independant of the MD Orbiter.  However, I was just wondering if there was anyone was looking at this device as an integration to LMCE.  Not sure how, but just ???'ning.  One day I hope to install 810.

Happy Turkey Day

We're currently integrating UPnP into Dianemo/Cascade systems and we are testing with various devices such as Sonos Zone Players & the WDTV Live. We have not tested the WDTV Live Plus but it should have very similar firmware from the UPnP perspective so I would expect it to work fine. If you are using MythTV in your LinuxMCE installation then you should also be able to browse to the MythTV UPnP server and playback any recordings you have made.

What we are working on is being able to add any UPnP media renderer as a device in the device tree so that you can then use an Orbiter as a UPnP 'control point' and stream media to that device. As the Orbiter UI is running on another device the UPnP Media Renderer ie the WDTV Live does not need to display the Orbiter...its only function is to play back media. The other part we are working on is integrating external UPnP Servers so that they can be discovered and added/integrated automatically.

All the best

As this thread is the only entry found on WDTV, what is the latest news on LinuxMCE integration ???

There is also nothing in the wiki about WDTV.

Note:  Amazon Instant Video (AIV) isn't implemented on this system yet.  Probably quite important to a lot of people due to Netflix's price rises.

We support WDTV's from a uPnP perspective in Dianemo in that you can stream .dvd & .iso & .mkv files to WDTV's. But this is not in LinuxMCE yet. We have not tested against the WDTV Live Plus.
