Just to let everyone know that the new Dianemo Orbiter App 1.2 has been released on the Apple iOS App store. This version implements the new interactive layer that allows for some dynamic UI elements to be delivered without any UI re-design.

Its a free download from the App store and it is compatible with both LinuxMCE 810/10.04 and Dianemo 10.10. To make use of the new Interactive layer in LinuxMCE you must be running the new proxy_orbiter - see the tail end of this thread for details of how to get & install the new proxy_orbiter from svn. There is also a companion QT app TouchOrbiterQT (full source code provided and released under the GPL) that implements all of the iOS App's key features and is intended as a working example for anyone thinking of developing a version for another OS/Device or programming language. TouchOrbiterQT is also a full functional working App and can be used on any OS with the right QT libs installed.

Anyway...we hope you all enjoy the new Apps and also look forward to seeing what cool stuff you can develop around the technology!

All the best

Andrew

What. No Android Love.

Looks fantastic. Wonder if I can use my old iPhone 3G as an orbiter only device? Have to give it a try. Should act like an iPod.

Best Regards.

Hi Seth,

The 3G should work fine... needs to be running iOS 3.1.3 as a minimum

There's a guy working (very slowly) on a Android Orbiter. We don't have an Android Orbiter ourselves. Even for the iOS orbiter the hard work was done by someone else, and I only wrote some extra code on top Smiley

Thanks for the updates. I have recently downloaded the Android SDK, to work on some UI enhancements for home screen replacements. Maybe now that the summer rolls into fall, my family will keep me less busy. I can take a look at making a native orbiter. The new scrolling functions, and simplified button layout of the new iOS orbiter, is a refreshing piece of work. I would love to use the same common-sense layout on my Android tablets, and phones.

I will see about charging my old iPhone up, to use and get a feel for iOS orbiter, and perhaps use it to inspire an Android version.

Best Regards, Fantastic Work,

Seth

I just took my old iPhone 3G (1st gen) down to AT&T help center, and they "iPod"-ed it for me. Connected to their wifi and downloaded both the Dianemo and the Roaming Orb. Now all I need to do is get home. To test them.

+1 touchscreen for my deployment.

Best Regards, Great Work,

Seth

seth,

no need to download RoamingOrb as well. RoamingOrb is the precessor of the current Dianemo Orbiter.

Hi Seth,

Well RoaminOrb was the basis of the Dianemo App... so they do share some heritage. But the Dianemo App has been extended in a number of areas since and we are building out its functionality all the time. The Dianemo App will always be free to download and will continue to support both LinuxMCE and Dianemo.

Enjoy!

 Huh
Just a quick question. I configured a new iphone sized web orbiter last night. Rooted around until I found my installation number, and then fired up the Dianemo orbiter.
Other than the living room splash screen, the skin is identical to the Roaming Orb.

Now while the scrolling content inside the various media options is working fantastically, I was wondering, is the skin shown on the wiki page, and the youtube bits, specific to Dianemo systems. I looked for a skin of a different name than the standard in the orbiter dropdown. But there was no Dianemo.

This is fine if it specific to Dianemo hardware/customers. But I was just making sure I didn't do something wrong.

Best Regards, Love the scrolling content,

Seth
