Add software packages list is empty.
« on: April 18, 2011, 09:40:34 pm »
Hey did a fresh install following http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installing_0810 choosing to do a internet based install.
Well when I went to install libdvdcss, my choices of stuff to install on the lmce-admin was blank. I did a update package list, got the little window that stated something about getXMLs. but nothing ever happened. Can some one help me?

The software list in the sarah wizard is currently not working.

To get libdvdcss2 add the medibuntu repo line into sources.list - a google search for libdvdcss2 medibuntu sources.list should give you details.

I know how to do it in the command line. It's just my understanding this is not the preferred way to install stuff in lmce. Thank you for your reply, however I'd like to "fix" the reason for the software list in lmce being empty.

We do not have anything set up for 0810 or 1004 to add to add software in LinuxMCE.

This will require some work. If you want to know how, grab the source code to getxmls, and you'll see what needs to happen.

How might a person find "getxmls" in the source code? I'm embarrassed to say my method to now has been to blindly click on the source links until I find the file I'm looking for.

look in src/AddSoftware in the source tree.

http://svn.linuxmce.org/svn/branches/LinuxMCE-0810/

check the code out with SVN.

I have no experience with SVN, can you direct me to a how to or the like pertaining to Linuxmce's SVN.
Thanks

http://artis.imag.fr/~Xavier.Decoret/resources/svn/index.html <-- a tutorial for SVN

but to grab the SVN tree so you can work with it, find an empty spot on your disk and type:

http://svn.linuxmce.org/svn/branches/LinuxMCE-0810/

the mechanism allows any site to create a XML file for any version of LinuxMCE. So long as the site contains the magic cookie word in it.

So, why this list is not hosted on any of the lmce related sites? or is that a dumb question?

The Add Software List had the following QUESTIONABLE pieces of software in terms of legality:

* libdvdcss2
* Cisco Firmware 1
* Cisco FIrmware 2

...

think about it.

*ouch, rubs noggin*

Yup, I get all that, is there a solution though? or just stash an updated xml file in some corner of the interweb?
