Cheap network camera
« on: January 31, 2011, 01:14:54 pm »
Hi,
I would like to setup one camera, I prefer to have UTP cable to in instead of using wifi and needs to be as cheap as possible. It will be used only in one demo not for long time use.

How about this one:

If you have some that are better with same price or less expensive with same features as this one please suggest them.

Thank you in advance,
Valent.

That looks like the knock off of the foscam ip cameras. In the wiki they are written up as working. I've bought one of the newer foscam on ebay but didn't manage to get it going before my motherboard died.

Be interested to know if it works with LMCE as it looks a nice cheap option

Be careful with Foscams, they are troublesome http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=10134.0

I imagine cheap clones would be even worst.

Cheers,
Matt.

EDIT: Emphasised the relevant text on the FI8905W wiki page so it is not missed in future. Same issue is described at bottom of http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Foscam_FI8908W#Dropouts page.

I have been testing my fake foscam webcam with iphone, android and ipad apps for controlling webcams and it works great. Haven't connected it into LinuxMCE but if those apps play with it so should Linuxmce.

Plase report to us about your progression. Also what exactly is a camera you're using ?

Thanks in advance,

Bulek.

With iPhone and iPad apps you can remotely control camera, rotate it any way you want because it has axis control. Because it has wireless you can install it anywhere in your home without running video or ethernet cable to it.
