Hello All,

I'm running linuxmce 810 on an eee900a (10 watt under load).
The only problem i'm having is that the 900a has no spdif out so no dolby or DTS for me.
Does anyone have any experience with external soundcards like the creative X-FI usb ?
I would only use the optical spdif interface to connect the eee900a to my digital receiver.

Greetings Rob

The only external sound card i was able to get working was the Sabrent USB-SND8 8-Channel USB 2.0 External 7.1 Sound Box

the sound blaster etc... didnt work at the time and this was a limitation of alsa and not lmce

Thanks

See this wiki article about using Squeezeslave & usb sound 'cards' http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Squeezeslave_on_the_core. We have tried several cards now and they have all just worked...and our Cascade/Dianemo systems are built on top of 0710 too...so your mileage under 0810 should be even better I would expect.

All the best

I think the experience should be identical these days, as both, Cascade/Dianemo and LinuxMCE use a backported Alsa. LinuxMCE is currently at 1.0.23 for the drivers.

Anyone try this?

http://bestofferbuy.com/Premium-USB-2.0-External-Sound-Card-Box-with-7.1-Speaker-SPDIF-Optical-Output-p-28197.html?currency=GBP&utm_source=gbase&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=gbase

Seems to come up a lot on ebay and is the cheapest USB SPDIF capable device I have found.

Do you have any links for the £10 SPDIF devices you mentioned before?

Totallymaxed is it possible to provide us with the make and models of the USB cards you all have used.

And to anybody that uses USB audio devices, please post it here.

I'm having a hard time getting one that works with squeezeslave, although it might be a bug in pulseaudio and/or squeezeslave at the moment.

I will make a wiki page with USB cards table for future reference.

We purchase much of our components OEM so they will not be available from other suppliers - or not easily identifiable as such anyway. However we have tested pretty much all of the current Startech lineup and they all work for us. Now Startech OEM these to other companies (inluding us) so you will find here hardware sold under many different brands in addition to the Startech brand itself. See the Wiki page for a reference to a mid priced Startech unit.

I would suggest starting with Startech as if they do no work for you then its certainly not a problem with sound card.

All the best

You'll have no problem with that Startech at all - it works fine. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it.

Doesn't seem to say anything about SPDIF. It's also not mentioned on the Startech page for that device.

Yes...pasted the wrong one into that reply :-)

This is one we have tested successfully with spdif; http://www.startech.com/item/ICUSBAUDIO7D-USB-7-Channel-Audio-Adapter-with-SPDIF.aspx

More expensive though.

Hi,

I got the USB device and lsusb shows this:
Bus 005 Device 003: ID 054c:01b4 Sony Corp.
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0d8c:000c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

squeezeslave -L shows this:
Output devices:
  1: (ALSA) Ensoniq AudioPCI: ES1371 DAC1 (hw:0,1) (11/46)
  4: (ALSA) asym_analog (42/46)
  5: (ALSA) dmix (42/42)
* 6: (ALSA) default (42/46)

It seems that there ist no driver for the usb-device loaded.

any ideas?

Regards
