Audio video How to????

I am not new to Linux and Multimedia??I have installed and tried many Linux Opensource Multimedia Systems Like Mythtv , Freevo etc but this system must probably be the most unstable and unfriendly system to work on.For the Life of me I can`t even get Multimedia to play on this System.
Simple stuff like Audio does`nt play .. all it does is allow you inside the orbiter and gives you all these menues like which Audio formats to choose then when trying to play nothing happens , you need a degree to run this system...

Please can somebody expalin to me how to get Audio to work ??

Lets go back to the basics - pls tell us your hardware (ie mobo,videocard, etc). Pls also tell us what method u are using to install - ie fresh install via dvd or cd?

Pls also tell us where the system is falling over - ie is it at install - eg blank screen.

We have all been through various issues and if you can provide us with as much info as u can we can try to help u appreciate the system and the efforts many have gone through to get it where it is today.
