Now that you explained it, and I read over it again it was not specific what exactly is implemented.
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Dlna

I (wrongly) assumed that the DLNA protocol was implemented both ways.

Best regards
Daniel

EDIT: did anyone try using squeezeplayer on android (http://www.squeezeplayer.com)? could this work?

Oh, the wiki page in DLNA gave me the impression that it works with generic DLNA/UPnP devices, is that wrong?

Would you mind detailing why wireless Squeezeboxes are posing wiring issues?
wireless squeezeboxes are not posing wiring issues, squeezeslave on the server is.

And secondhand squeezeboxes are far more expensive than a 35$ stick, so if that works too it is a preferable solution.

Hello,

I am new to lmce, and I want a audio system in every room. I do not however want a media director in every room, so is it possible to have a upnp/dlna renderer/client in the room and then stream audio to this room?

For instance a google chromecast (if that is supported), or a device like that http://dx.com/p/ipush-multi-media-wi-fi-dlna-miracast-display-receiver-dongle-for-android-white-218502.

Is that generally possible, and what are the things I have to watch out for?

It is supported by the kernel 3.3, earlier kernels, including the used one needs the modules xc5000, drxk and em28xx.

If I understand correctly that means it is not possible?

Is there a list somewhere of supported tc-cards by this kernel?

I would be happy to chime in.

but I guess it would be a good idea to start by making a roadmap. To see what would really be done. Or am I just to blind to find it?

Hello,

does the WinTV-HVR 930C work with lmce? and if yes how, if no what would be needed to make it work?

I added the ticket... http://svn.linuxmce.org/trac.cgi/ticket/1896

It is just a very very small change.

Thank you, I added a note in the wiki, (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/SMB_/_Samba_NAS_Configurations) because it was mentioned to do it like that there.

Installation issues / samba password forgotten on reboot
« on: August 26, 2013, 11:21:56 am »
Hello,

I used
Code: [Select]
sudo smbpasswd pluto_USER to set a samba password, as described in the wiki. However I have to do that again after every reboot, any ideas why?

Best regards

The storage radar in LinuxMCE does not know about /dev/vdX devices, and would need to be amended to use it.

The relevant code is in StorageDevices_Radar.sh and StorageDevices_StatusRadar.sh in /usr/pluto/bin (or in src/PlutoStorageDevices if you've checked out the source tree.), with a little digging you should see what to add.

This worked nicely, thank you.

However, I would strongly ask that you amend the storage radar, so that this benefits not only you, but other users of this type of setup in the long run.
I am happy to commit the changes, I just have no idea how. Is there a wiki entry describing that?

Of course, if this is too much to begin with, you could just..oh..I don't know...USE A STANDARD STORAGE MECHANISM PERHAPS? :)

(seriously, all you sysadmin types are going to fucking drive me to drinking. We realistically can't support all your zillions of edge cases for system environments that you guys want to willy nilly slap together without first understanding the system! I grow weary from it, and am THIS close to really spewing some nasty words about it.)

As far as I know this is pretty standard, shipping with the standard kernel since 2.6.25.

Of course I know that you cannot support all possible cases, standard or not, but actually I thought that I could use this system without first understanding every detail of it. I also thought that when somebody asked a question you could expect a normal and friendly answer.

With best regards
Daniel

Hello,

I have a problem with my HD.

I have installed liuxmce on a virtual machine, and added a virtio-drive. In the Linuxmce installation I find it under /dev/vdb and can mount it without a problem. The drive already has movies and music on it, so how do I get linuxmce to use it?

Best regards
Daniel
