Yep there it is
Code:
dcerouter_1031870:/etc# dpkg -S snd-usb-audio
linux-image-2.6.32-42-generic: /lib/modules/2.6.32-42-generic/kernel/sound/usb/snd-usb-audio.ko

But here it is not
Code:
dcerouter_1031870:/lib/modules/2.6.32-42-generic/kernel/sound/usb# ls
caiaq  usx2y

Looks like something I did. I may mess around a bit and see what I see.
I'll keep a look out for the snap.

Thanks again and let me know if there is something I can do.

Thanks for helping here.

Sadly I get
Code:
dcerouter_1031870:/etc# modprobe snd-usb-audio
FATAL: Module snd_usb_audio not found.

Also

I did build alsa driver like
Code:
./configure --with-cards=hda-intel --with-kernel=/usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r)

To get native sound working

I'm going to check latest snap of lmce

Thanks again

Just received my replacement. I ordered a slightly different. Same chip but $1.00 cheaper and white. I don't know why...

Shows up just fine
Here's dmesg
Code:

There it is.

So looks like not loading driver.
I'm looking at adjusting /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

I know this is more duct tape. Should I be looking somewhere else in lmce boot scripts?

Thanks
79  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Pluto_media over 5,5GB? on: October 31, 2012, 02:08:07 am
I noticed this myself. I had over 60,000 records in Pluto_media.File. I just checked again and it's down to ~ 2,000. I had thought to reformat my MD hard drives. Not sure why I have them in the first place. Just habit I guess.
I shoved old drives in them. Maybe it was picking up the gazillion media files floating on them?

Also chose all public as setup. Not sure if any of this did anything just thought I'd share.

Here is the pastebin before I installed the device.

http://pastebin.com/NNBwZRJB

Here is after

http://pastebin.com/KPQ3rHNR

I contacted the vendor earlier today before I posted here and did some tests. He made me try it on a windows machine. Which I do have an old laptop running xp. It came up with device has malfunctioned. Device manager showed vendor ID 0000 PCI ID 0000. I suspect this device was DOA. He said he will ask around to see if others have seen this. I'm hoping this is not common for this device. I've had very good luck with Newegg stuff. The price is really nice but this shows reduced from like $30 to $15 so I'm concerned something is up. This is the initial phase of whole house audio so I really can't get people mad at me while development takes place.

One thing I'm thinking is a power hub...
Will try that next.

Thanks again L3mce
81  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Startech ICUSBAUDIOB on: October 26, 2012, 11:47:47 pm
It was on my laptop running 11.10. Suspect same result on 10.04. But I'll check.

Your correct that is onboard device.
82  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Startech ICUSBAUDIOB on: October 26, 2012, 08:18:36 pm
Here you go

Code:
jim@jim-Inspiron-N5110:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [PCH            ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf7f00000 irq 54
jim@jim-Inspiron-N5110:~$

Obviously this not DCE. I can do that if you want...
83  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Startech ICUSBAUDIOB on: October 26, 2012, 07:13:28 pm
I think I may look at his code and see if I can get a list of compatible devices. Or devices that maybe compatible.

Still would like to know if others have seen consistent failure with this or other Startech devices.

Hi

Anybody have any experience with the Startech ICUSBAUDIOB audio device? I got one that was dead on arrival. Nothing shows up on lsusb and dmesg | grep USB shows
Code:
[  205.776071] usb 3-2: new full speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
[  206.295284] usb 3-2: new full speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd
[  206.814525] usb 3-2: new full speed USB device number 5 using xhci_hcd
[  207.333741] usb 3-2: new full speed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd
[  207.741171] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2

Should at least give me a vendor:pciid right?

I just don't want to waste my time exchanging this and having them die.
Using it for multiple zone audio with squeezeslave. They are very cheap $13US on newegg.

Thanks

 Smiley...

When you can. Let me know and I'll test.

Its been really nice to look at what your doing there too. Learning more and more about this every day.

Thanks again!!

87  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Do I need a Media Director if I only want to control shades, door lock, lights? on: October 25, 2012, 02:06:48 am
Hi torontob

For my experience I have run a headless core (No MD) to just do automation. You can control this through the Web Admin portal if you are just having the automation respond to events (motion detectors, sensors tripped, sunrise, etc.) You can also install as many orbiters as you want to manually turn on or off devices or open close shades. I have done this with an old HP that ran for about $250 maybe 6 yrs ago. You could probably find a friend with one ready to go to the curb. The core just doing this does not require much computing power. For this setup I would spend very little on the PC, nothing if your crafty. You can always upgrade to make use of the other features of LinuxMCE.
88  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Sound Problems 1004 beta on: October 24, 2012, 10:33:36 pm
Ok added both to Backports_Required in /usr/pluto/bin/nvidia-install.sh.

rm xorg
rebooted
AVWizard started fine
No sound device shown
No sound
Wizard finished fine
Tried to play video
Does not play and no sound. Looks like remote is starting though.

Rebooted
Looks like it attempted to install backports after restart.
Looks like it ran into trouble.
Saw something like;
Code:
Setting up linux-backports...blah
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-44-generic

Usage: modprobe [-v] [-V] [-C config-file] ...blah
modprobe -r [-n] [-i] <modulename> ...
modprobe -l -t <dirname> ...blah

Then hung there for a while.

Rebooted
Now at startup screen says "Alsa backport modules already loaded"
Lmce starts fine
Does not play video
No sound

Removed the files you mentioned above again.
Added both to Backports_Required in /usr/pluto/bin/nvidia-install.sh again
Removed xorg.conf
Rebooted
AVWizard started fine
No sound device
No sound
Wizard hangs at blinking curser after completing
Forced reboot
Startup screen says "Alsa backport modules already loaded"
Lmce starts fine
Does not play video
No sound

Anything I can do let me know

Thanks
89  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Failed to set up x on media director on: October 24, 2012, 01:59:05 am
Ok this is solved.

The video driver was not being loaded. This is now working as of 26592. The card, as mentioned above is an "ASUS GT218 GeForce 8400 GS".
I liked it because it was fanless and cheap. Newegg like $29.00. The good news is it looks like HDMI audio is working too but not tested.

This is all due to L3mce efforts with much thanks!
90  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Sound Problems 1004 beta on: October 24, 2012, 01:08:33 am
Sorry my last post got lost... my fault

Yes I understand the confusion.

I have an MD that was giving me the "Failed To Setup X" issue. That is now running perfect after
[quote ]Please edit /usr/pluto/bin/nvidia-install.sh
under DRIVER_260_SUPPORTED=
add 10c3
[/quote]

And is also running perfect with the core running 26592. So that issue is closed with much thanks!

I have now my hybrid/core that has always had sound issues with 10.04. I have been fixing this by updating the alsa driver to 1.0.25. I do this all outside lmce at initial install. I swap this machine between a "Production" system and development so that I keep the same hardware. I do this by swapping hard drives. I also do clonezilla but not today. It is currently set up with a fresh install of 26592 from USB iso. It does not play video or sound.
Hopefully that helps a little

Ok so for
Code:
lspci -nn | grep VGA | grep -wo ....\:....
10de:0614

I renamed the files you mentioned.
Got the new ones with wget.
Changed nvidia-install.sh and added 10de under Backports_Required
removed xorg and restarted
AVWizard started fine.
No sound device shown
No sound

Also
Code:
aplay -l
aplay: device_list:223: no soundcards found...

Let me know if I can do anything more. And thanks for your time.
