Users / Re: Kickstarter Campaign to fund a programmer?
« on: January 01, 2014, 11:25:33 pm »
Definitely the UI is the worst thing.  At least it can be edited,  although with quite a bit of work and a lot of know how.  qOrbiter will improve this exponentially.  I think the worst thing about the UI is that it doesnt support feedback or any type of advanced controls (such as sliders).  I install the expensive stuff like crestron, savant, and control4.  Thats really the only plus they have.  Crestron has an easy to use screen editor but everything has to be done from scratch (no automatic scenarios or screens),  control4 doesnt allow you to edit the screens,  and savant is just a pita to make changes to anything that was automatic and you better hope that a change you make doesn't require you to have to start over (no undo).  But even for devices that have been supported from the beginning such as HVAC,  it doesn't give you a nice UI to actually control your ac,  they are still just scenarios.  I might go ahead and attempt to make this screen,  its just coming up with an xp machine again that i can install the editor on again.

Feature requests & roadmap / html jumps
« on: January 01, 2014, 03:56:39 pm »
it would be nice to have html jumps in the pages so that when you are making changes and you click update,  that it goes back to the current position in the page instead of having to scroll back to where you were each time.  This can get tedious for things such as ordering of scenarios and such.

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Directv tcp control
« on: January 01, 2014, 03:54:21 pm »
I actually had a working template that i've been using for over well over a year now.  The only problem that i have with it is that mce seems to hold the connection open instead of just sending the commands one at a time.  This causing it to be kinda unreliable and i would frequently have to resend the channels to it to get it to tune correctly no matter how long i put a delay in there for.  also,  if you did a reload,  then it would take quite some time before the dtv box started to accept commands again.  This would also be the case if you used a directv app on a phone,  it would cause mce to quit talking to the box for 15 to 20 minutes.  I don't have this problem on other automation systems that i install (control4, savant, or crestron),  they work instantly.  So it must be in some way that the router is handling the connection.

Users / Re: installing mono

Was the program compiled using mono?  If it wasn't then there is a good chance that it isn't going to work.  Mono uses their own libraries and not the Microsoft .NET ones,  thats how they make it cross platform.

It actually does much less now,  this is what the script gives me when it runs:

I should be using device #170.  It's also loading full screen by default it seems,  but I don't know for sure because it doesn't finish.  I have to alt+tab to get back to console and kill it.  The whole screen goes white and a black box takes up the top left side.  It does let me run it from anywhere now though.

Yes,  I have the skins installed on my core and updated them yesterday.  I used the install script from the Web Installer.  I realized that I had to run it from my home directory,  as if i wasn't in my home directory,  then it couldn't locate AudioVisual 1.0 (or something like that),  even though it was calling the full path.

On my Xubuntu box,  i can get it to load and then it shows the orbiter for a split second,  and the crashes saying that there are reference errors:  can't find variable.  There are a lot of them.

Users / Re: Ubiquiti mFi - your thoughts about these devices?
« on: December 29, 2013, 11:02:41 pm »
All the ubiquity stuff runs linux and can be logged into via ssh.  These can be controlled this way directly.  The default user/pass on them is ubnt/ubnt,  if you use any of their software to adopt anything, then that will be the username/password that you need.  Their control software does everything via ssh.  I work for a dealer and have used their stuff extensively,  works very well and is very cheap.

Users / Re: child devices on new profile
« on: December 29, 2013, 07:45:19 pm »
I have an Onkyo Integra 3 zone receiver,  and currently i have three seperate devices for each zone.  this works fine using ir control, but id really like to use ip control for my other zones.  so currently i have the main zone as ip control and the others doing ir.  the reason for this is that once i use a room ip,  then the other zones can't be controlled.  i would like to have the other zones as child devices.  can i just add the other devices that ive already created as child devices to the main zone and have it work that way or do i need to modify the main zone to have template #1867 for my other zones.  i've been trying to do it this way using 1867, but i don't see how to define the inputs to the other zones.

Users / child devices on new profile
« on: December 29, 2013, 04:14:55 pm »
How do I create a new device profile that contains child devices.  This way when I go and add the new device,  the child devices automatically come in?  It's just ir control,  so I don't want to go about creating a DCE device.

Users / Re: Controlling AV equipment - peculiar behavior
« on: December 29, 2013, 04:03:33 pm »
I would double check all of you "controlled by" settings and make sure they are correct.  I've got a large setup where i dont have any devices straight to an endpoint and everything works just fine (all devices no matter where they are in the signal flow are controller properly).  The only problem I have ever had with devices being controller were with IP devices where i needed several connections simulataneously (ex,  my AVR has multiple zones and they are all IP controlled).

Users / zigbee remote
« on: December 29, 2013, 02:45:57 am »
I have a control4 zigbee remote i could donate if there is somebody that is capable of writing a driver for it.  Having a hard remote is almost a must,  I like using my phone for a remote,  but for the baby sitter or guests, its nice to have a regular remote.  This remote allows a menu to be downloaded to it somehow,  where you press the watch or listen button and you are presented with a menu on the screen where you can choose what you want to do,  it also has a list button where you can get to other functions.  I know this is just the way that the control4 project sends the data to it,  so it wouldn't have to work exactly like that.

we finally got it working,  we did a reinstall and then upgraded the kernel before it finished downloading the packages,  then it immediately found it and installed it.  We are now trying to configure mythtv.  We have got the backend configured by piped the x session over ssh and running mythtv setup.  But when ever we go to our media menu and click on tv, is says that mythtv is using all inputs but there are no recordings.  I have looked it up and it seems that other people are having the same issue but there doesn't seem to be a standard way to fix it.  Is there something I should look for?

we had it lock up trying to upgrade to 12.04 and wouldn't come back so we have just reinstalled 10.04 and are going to upgrade the kernel again.  if we can get it to show up in myth, thats a good starting point.  as far as getting it into lmce,  can we add it manually and if so what parameters need to be set to it to work?  (device path, etc.)

thanks for all the help.

we are on kernel 3.0 now, and lsusb does detect it correctly,  it just doesn't get recognized by mce or myth.  we have tried a couple times from fresh installs without success,  trying compiling the drivers from scratch.  we are doing a dist-upgrade now to 12.04 to see if that helps.
