Users / RAID in 12.04
« on: January 14, 2015, 02:41:35 am »
I have been playing around with 14.04 and 12.04 builds and this project sure has come a long way!  I have a 10.04 system in which I utilize an SSD as my main drive and then a RAID 5 setup to store media and in previous versions this works fine when upgrading - just use the SSD as the install drive and then LMCE detects the RAID and my media is right where I left it.

Now before installing the newer versions I remember reading a post that 12.04 does not detect RAID and of course it does not (I looked for the post again before writing this one and of course, cannot seem to locate it).  Installing 14.04 it did detect the RAID and appears ok - so my question is - can someone point me in the direction to get RAID detection working in 12.04 as 14.04 has dependency issues that are out of my league to correct.

Code: [Select]
@dcerouter:~$  cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid10]
unused devices: <none>

Does this not mean the raid is present?

any suggestions would be appreciated!

Developers / [SOLVED] Device Template using SOAP
« on: September 03, 2014, 08:17:40 pm »
Recently I had to retire my OPPO Blu Ray Player with its RS232 interface and went looking for something new.  Of all the Blu Ray choices out there, I settled on a Sony for its cost and features - one of which is its ability to accept network commands via SOAP.  I have been able to send commands to my Sony using command line and have fleshed out exactly what it can and cannot do and now I wish to create a device template to integrate this into my LMCE system and I have a few questions...

First of all, I have looked in the GSD source code and cannot quite figure out if it is possible to send headers to use SOAP in Ruby.  In my testing (using cURL) there is a header that needs sent in order for this to work - if it is not present, the player disregards the message and returns a 404.  So my question is - can I send a header to make this work and if so - how?

I have seen other posts about using SOAP in a device template but I do not see where it has been successful and I do not see any templates that currently use SOAP...

thanks in advance,

Users / Blu-ray Player or Blu-ray Drive?
« on: October 27, 2013, 01:43:44 am »
I currently have an Oppo bdp-83 with rs232 controls and it now has some issues.  It does not play a lot of the newer discs and there are some playback issues with the ones that do work and the firmware upgrades do not resolve these issues.  So it leads me to ask the question if I should get a new Blu-ray player to replace this one (and if so, what model works best with LMCE) or just add a blu-ray drive to my media director?

From previous experience I know that blu-ray drives do not work well with Linux (or has this issue been resolved?) but it would provide a more transparent experience when using LMCE.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Installation issues / No audio in mythtv for one MD
« on: August 24, 2013, 07:36:12 pm »
I recently installed an Acer Veriton as an MD, on my 1004 system, due to its small footprint (installed behind a flat screen mounted above a fireplace) using VGA and analog sound.  Everything works as expected except there is no sound in mythtv, all of the other MDs work fine.  I have looked all over and the only reference I can find is related to Fedora installations and I tried those suggestions and even re-ran AV Wizard and still no sound in myth.

mythtv logs shows no issue and playback of movies, hulu, etc. work fine...

Anyone have any clues?

Help Wanted / Analog Capture Card Driver
« on: June 27, 2013, 04:17:31 am »
I have recently come into possession of several PC based Security Camera DVRs and can't help but think they would make excellent cores for my next LMCE install.  I installed 1004 on one and everything works fine except the camera capture card (which works fine under windows).  It is an IDIS 16 channel audio/video card with a single BT878 chip and dmesg says it is a generic 4 port bttv card.  I have tried everything I could think of to make it work and have not found the solution so I am offering one of the DVB Cards with 16 port BNC back plane to anyone who thinks they might be able to write the driver for this piece of hardware or alter the current Linux bbtv drivers.

I can provide any information you need as well as access to a box one of the cards is currently running on...

Users / Hulu Desktop Not Working
« on: June 06, 2013, 08:52:31 pm »
I have had a working 10.04 system up and running for sometime now and all of a sudden my Hulu stopped working.. not a big deal for me as I can use the computing feature but it is my wife's favorite feature of LMCE.  I removed and added the software module multiple times and did quick reloads or reboots after each time and still not working.  Here are some logs from the MD:

which doesn't tell me anything... but this pops up in the logs after attempting to start Hulu

anyone with any ideas?  The last line of this log file actually makes me think it is an issue with the NVidia driver..
