Users / PS3 as a device
« on: May 07, 2012, 10:58:29 pm »
Is there a way to make my ps3 a device in LMCE?

I want to be able to have my MD connected to my TV and have the PS3 be routed through it, but I'm thinking i'm going to have to have them be separate and just use like a harmony to switch between the two, no?

Users / Design Question - New system install
« on: May 07, 2012, 08:45:22 pm »
Hello all!

Long time, no input from me. Been working on moving and whatnot and had to abandon my efforts on my LMCE system.
I'm back and looking to get into the nitty gritty.

I have this concept which i will try out and I was wondering if any of you had any input on the matter.

I just recommissioned my Beefy PC into a new Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server and made it a samba server so it will be my network storage for both windows and linux PCs. Its a Q6600 with 8GB RAM and a 512MB video card (dual gigabit NICs, will be adding a third).

I also have Virtualbox installed on here and what I am thinking of doing is running LMCE inside the VM and dedicated the necessary resources to LMCE to be my core. (also bridge 2 of my gigabit NICS for LMCE and leave the third as a NIC dedicated for my host server. also mount whatever USB devices to my LMCE image that I need).

That way i can use LMCE as a standard core and also have the benefit of having all of my media stored in a network share for anyone to access.

Later, I will add separate nettop boxes to be my MDs throughout the house.

Does anyone have any reservations about this? I figured this would be nice to do since i have plenty of processing power on my PC and want to maximize the use.

Users / PC Cases design for storage
« on: September 16, 2011, 05:48:18 pm »
Does anyone know of any PC cases designed to hold a LOT of hard drives?

I'v got an Abit AB9 Pro board that I'm going to load up with either 6 or 9 drives in a RAID config, but want a better case to stick it in

Users / Using core as a NFS
« on: September 15, 2011, 05:33:44 pm »
Is it possible to use my core as a NFS?

My main board can handle up to 9 Sata Drives. I have 6TB in a local RAID5 config now, but i wanna add some more drives, and use some of the extra bays as a SMB file share for my network to get the most out of my PC.

Is this possible?

Users / good core.
« on: March 27, 2011, 12:32:47 am »
I'm debating building either a new core, or building a new work pc.

Cucurrently, here is what my core is.
Abit ab 9 pro (dual gb nics,  9 SATA ports, 7.1 audio with optical out)
Quad. Core2.4gHz processor
4gb of RAM
Dvd writer
8600its 512mbps dual DVI card
1x 160gb. Hdd (for os)
1x 640gb Hdd for media.
I also have an extra 1tb. Drive and an extra 500gb external drive

I want to recommission this as my dev / production pc now that I've got more dev side work coming in..

My question, I have an extra p4 2.4ghz processor laying around.  Can I build a solid core?  Or should I look for an inexpensive barebone setup to build?

Users / access network share through LMCE KDE desktop
« on: March 21, 2011, 06:05:48 am »
This might sound like a dumb question, but is it possible to access the network share through KDE desktop? I have an NTFS HDD that I am trying to get some files copied into the LMCE managed drive. Trying to copy them directly isn't allowed, and I was able to copy the files easily from another PC on the network, but this particular partition I have is the actual same drive that I have LMCE on, meaning I can't remove it and transfer the files from another PC.

Any ideas? Am i missing something?

Users / no sound while in KDE desktop
« on: March 21, 2011, 05:31:12 am »
Hey everyone!

Just today i wanted to show someone a video, so I pulled up KDE desktop, copied over the video clip and low and behold, I got video fine, but got a message on both mplayer and vlc saying 'cannot initialize audio drivers'. Is there something disabled?

I also tried opening an mp3 that I have stored on the pc, and amarok threw me an error too.

Is this a known issue?

Users / Audio Management
« on: February 07, 2011, 05:18:49 pm »
Has anyone dealt with the audio portion of LMCE? it is horribly painful to work with. Only play, or play all or shuffle all?

Since we're sitting on top of KDE, it would be nice if we could use some of the highly useful capabilities of Amarok possibly.

Has anyone tweaked this portion of the system? Any plans to? Being able to have a lot of usability in a major portion of the 'media' only makes sense to me. no?

Anyone else have any thoughts here?

Users / HD PVR or HDHomeRun? the time has come
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:31:06 pm »
OK, so i'm looking to add the last piece to the puzzle to finally make this automation project 'complete'. I am looking to bring in my live tv finally so I (and my wonderful gf) can take full advantage of LMCE without having to switch inputs contantly.

I'm looking at the HD PVR from Hauppauge and the HDHomeRun from silicon dust. Both capture video, but both also have slightly different ways of working.

What are your thoughts out there? I'd like to get as much input as possible before taking the plunge in either direction.

Many thanks,

Ryan

Users / Wall mounted light control - Any ideas
« on: January 03, 2011, 09:51:57 pm »
Hi Everyone, I just got my z-wave lights all configured into my system and I finally have the USB-UIRT and the GYR3101 on the way (should be here in a week).

I am in the process of making it easier to turn on the lights without going through either my main android touch orbiter or through the interface in the living room.

Has anyone used one of the z-wave light controls parallel with our orbiters? I was thinking of using the ACT ZTH100 and just sticking it by the front door to make it easy to turn on all of the lights without having to wire anything to it.

The main problem is that I still rent, and I am not ripping holes in the walls that aren't already existing...

Any other ideas? I really wanted to put in a touch screen control, but haven't found any good way to do that yet...

Just wondering, but has anyone heard of this yet? Might be a decent device to integrate if Gyrations remotes phase out....

Users / cannot get mame games working
« on: December 02, 2010, 04:11:18 am »
Hey there,

I followed the steps on http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Play_Games_on_LinuxMCE to a T. I added my roms into the mame folder through the samba share. my core/hybrid detected the games and attached the images accordingly.

But when I select a game and then click "play" the screen freezes for a second, and then I am booted back to the main orbiter screen and nothing happens.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Users / Videos being replicated
« on: November 29, 2010, 08:29:11 pm »
Hey there,

I have an issue and I don't even know where to start. I added my movies that I had previously ripped to movie folders (like movie/ video_ts/audio_ts etc) into the proper folder and added the directory through the media sync wizard like i read in this topic, http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=1232.0 and all was good.

I was out for the thanksgiving holiday, and when I returned yesterday and turned on the TV and went to my videos section through the MD, every video has been duplicated about 15 times!!

What's even stranger is that it seems like the paths that it created are to non playable files for those replicated links in the videos section.

Has anyone else had this issue?
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Users / Setup Custom Keys on Logitech DiNovo Mini
« on: November 24, 2010, 03:07:06 am »
As the title states, I have a logitech DiNovo Mini, p/n 820-002109, m/n Y-RGB93. Bluetooth detection and operations are flawless, but I since it doesn't have the F keys, I can't use F7 to access the menu button, when playing a movie, etc.

Is there somewhere in the web-admin I can either remap the F7 key to something else, or to map a key on the mini?

I have a fn key on the keyboard, and three programmable keys (normally the sound keys), as well at the standard media center button, (which was the start button when using it in windows media center)

Any ideas?
