Here's something strange...

Got home yesterday, switched the tv on in the kitchen (MD) to watch live TV via LMCE and there was a security screen announcement asking for my pin??  Strange, anyway after I entered it the screen went away again.  Then after about a minute it came back up and a lady said that the alarm would sound in 30 seconds.....counting down to 0??  Strange I thought to myself, what is all this about, then it clicked that my 18 month old son was running around in the lounge, where I had left the pir to try and get it working. "Blimey" says me, this thing could actually be working.  After going to check the core, it seems that I left the keyboard plugged in, and within easy reach of my nipper.  Whenever he sees anything button-like he has to press (bash) it.  So it seems that whilst I was away he has somehow "Enhanced" my system with his meddling to the point where the pir now activates the alarm.  Still haven't figured out how to get it to just switch on the lights when the alarm is not armed, but have left the keyboard plugged in again today, so with any luck he'll have sorted it when I get home!

As this is an open-source project with a great community I feel that it would not be right to hire-out my son for system support, however if you feed and change him regularly you can borrow him if all else fails! ;D

I was having the same problem a couple of months ago,  thankfully user "Purps" came to my rescue with this:-

Put a shortcut on your desktop with the command "/usr/pluto/bin/ActivateOrbiterFromKDE.sh", that will bring the orbiter back up.

Worked for me, so should work for you too.

RE the sony 400 disc changers,

I tried to pick one of these up whilst I was in the states over New Year, the guy in the sony center said that he didn't think it would work with european discs, Blu-ray or DVD.  I phoned the Sony customer support people and they said that its definately only for region A Blu-ray, and Region 1 DVD.  When I asked about codes etc for changing the region codes he said that they are coded into the hardware and couldn't be changed.  This was the standard answer I expeted, however an extensive search on the net failed to reveal any codes for this or any Sony jukebox.

Just a warning to any would-be European purchasers.  Also the guy in the shop said that they only had 1, and that it had been there for almost a year, I guess that they didn't sell that many, and thats why they didn't bother with a European version.

If anybody knows a way to re-region code one of these then I'm up for buying one, until then my shelf groans with media, and I do the "Changing"!

Ha Ha, I have to laugh Matt, it seems I am doomed to follow your problems throughout my whole LMCE setup, perhaps there should be some sort of badge system you can earn like the cub-scouts, one for cameras, one for Zwave etc....

Anyway I read through the post, and when I get home tonight I'll try something new.  I have one of the Duwi DUW_064459 remote controls, I tried in the beginning to include all devices with this remote, then copy them to the stick, but it wouldn't have it.  I'll try adding this to the network and then using it to add the other devices, that way I don't have to remove the stick from the core each time.  I was actually wanting to be able to use this as well as the lmce system to control lights, but that was going to be another post down the line!  :P

I'll update on how things go after this evenings tests.  Just for info, whats the next "badge" I'll be competing for?  ;D

Thanks
Matt.

I'm having a spot of bother with my z-wave security devices.

I'm using the Aeon labs stick with the include button, works fine for the lights, but can't get it to work with my ZIR010 motion sensor, or the smoke alarm. (everspring SF812)

I know Hari put in the work to get the smoke alarm working, but when I include it, nothing appears in my list of Z-wave devices.

The PIR sensor includes OK, but when I put the stick back in the core the lighting wizard automatically runs, I select Alarm panel and it tells me there is 1 sensor which needs to be added.  Great, except that when I tell it which room its in, it asks what to call it and there it all goes pear-shaped.  There is no "Next" button after I name it, I can only exit the wizard, or go to the end and press "Start using the system"  When it has finished regening the orbiter and reloading the router it has disappeared again, and does not appear in the z-wave device tree any more.

I tried to add it manually, but I'm not sure which template to use?
The wiki is very good for this device, but I'm struggling to get through it properly

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ACT_Homepro_ZIR010

When I added it manually in webadmin I chose the generic motion detector, as there was no specific template for this device, but the wiki mentions using parameters #17 #18 and #22 to set it, but I can't see these in the generic template.

What am I doing wrong?  Should I do an apt-get update? I have already done the sqlcvs updates for all DCE and IR components

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Queue and play options in media browser
« on: February 15, 2011, 01:36:52 pm »
Very appropriate thread, as I was trying to get the queue instead of play feature to work last night.  I have checked the box for all my orbiters to queue instead of play, but the functionality isn't implemented.  I have rebooted the core, regened the orbiters (all) but it still plays instantly the song I add.

Do I have to do an apt-get update for this feature to be fixed?  I'm still on snapshot 23388, and I see there are loads of newer ones now.

Cool, I'll wait until I can get template 2163.  There's no mega rush at the moment, as I'm moving house this weekend and it'll take a few days to get everything connected back together and running.  I have a whole load of Z-wave devices that will probably keep me busy for the next week or so too....lol.  Might need to find a bigger server to host this forum.  ;D

Ah, that template is not found so I will leave it overnight, and try a sqlcvs update tomorrow.  Hopefully it'll appear by then.

Righto, off to try that now...

No joy.  The sqlcvs was updated, I checked all the dce and IR boxes, it said it finished successfully.  Rebooted the core, then plugged the camera in.  Nothing on the core, or other MD to tell me that anything was detected.

One thing I just thought of regarding mac addresses, at the moment its plugged via cable to the internal network, it also has a wireless mode which will be used later once I've moved the wireless router to the internal network.  Perhaps this will have a mac address within the range discussed earlier??

it still works in the browser, so I can make use of it for now, perhaps it takes time for the new template to get into the system, and onto my core?

Thanks for the help.

Matt.

I'll be following this thread closely, I'm about to move into the new apartment this weekend, its all kitted out with a Duwi light switch or dimmer in every room, and also blind controllers in most rooms too.  I hope it will all fit seamlessly together, but nothing else has so far so I'm not holding my breath ;)

Good luck with it, and I hope there's a nice solution to the blind controller commands.

Users / WD Mybook World *Now working*
« on: February 02, 2011, 10:28:40 pm »
Hopefully this is a simple one....

I've just plugged my WD Mybook world (NAS drive) into the switch on the internal side of the core.  It was recognised by the system and added itself as a drive, however I can't access any of the media stored on it, also when I click on it in the manage drives screen, nothing happens.

The IP address it was given is 192.168.80.132

My windows box that is also on the internal switch can map the drive no problems, and I can access it from the browser on the core.

Its full of movies, music and pictures but I can't see any of them from within the orbiter.

The device template it added itself to is #1837 but I noticed that at the bottom of the device info screen it says Registered: No

I was hoping that it would have added itself as a jukebox, or simply listed the media in the relevant places on the orbiter screen.  Any reason why it wouldn't do this?

TIA.

Matt.

I've just completed the sqlcvs update, and can't find the new template.  Can you tell me the number of the template, I'll try and select it that way?

Even with everything on the camera set back to factory, it doesn't seem to work on the orbiter, still working fine in the browser.  One question, I remember reading about the IP address range that the core issues, its given my camera a 192.168.80.130 address, which as I remember is for hardware outside of the LinuxMCE system.  Am I right about this, and does it matter?

I've got further questions that might be related to this, but I'm going to start another thread, as it will get too mixed up otherwise.

Thanks all.

Matt.

Hi guys,

Many thanks to Purps for trying to setup a new template for this camera.  Just a note, my MAC address for the camera is 00:0D:F0:55:CB:7B which doesn't fall within the range suggested in this thread.  This aside, I'm sure I can alter this in the template afterwards.

I am just in the middle of a firmware upgrade for the camera, which will reset everything to factory afterwards.  I'll try and add it then with the new template.  Just a quick one though, how do I get, or make sure I've already got the new template?
*Just checked and there isn't a template for it yet*

Great response from everyone else as well, thanks guys, the community spirit is flying high!  :D

All I really want is to be able to view the images from the camera, I'm not worried about motion sensing.  There are no axis controls either.  When I type the ip address of the camera into firefox it goes straight to the login page, and when I enter username and password I get the live feed.

When I unplugged and re-inserted the LAN cable Linux detected it as a "DCS5300", which I guess is another camera type, should I base settings on this template, or use the generic ip camera?

Personally I like Thom's suggestion, if there were a template already there, it would be great! ;D

After a long break for the holidays, I'm back at the keyboard again trying to get my system functioning as I would like.

I see that somebody on here has used the Y-Cam cameras with LinuxMCE, I had one anyway and want to integrate it.  I'm not sure what template to use, but I also seem to be missing something because whichever template I pick, I can't see any images from the camera.  I can log into the camera from my windows box, and see the streaming video, I can even log into the camera from another computer in a different country, so I know it works, it must be something I need to setup properly with the LinuxMCE unit.  For now I have connected the camera directly via cable to the network switch, linuxmce gave it an IP address in the correct range, but there are no images.

Any users with this type of camera that can give me a prod in the right direction?

Cheers

Matt.

* Update *

I can log into the camera and view the feed from firefox within LinuxMCE, its just the camera button on the orbiter that doesn't get the picture??
