Can you post what you did to disable the driver? I may give it a try....

Further update; returned the Nvidia GT 610 card as I could not get sound out of HDMI, did a re-install (10.04) off the DVD, but the graphics are still not working correctly.

I believe the issue is with the "Radeon HD 7000-series graphics (DX11) integrated with the APU" which is part of my mobo, no matter what I try I cannot get the system graphics correct so this must be the issue. I have the "fglrx* drivers installed on my system, but maybe the HD 7000 is not supported. Just wanted to keep this up to date in case someone else has this hardware.

I've searched on adding the correct driver, and I tried what is illustrated on this page;

http://ubuntuxtreme.com/news/amd-catalyst-13-2-beta-3-driver-up-to-300-performance/

but no dice, I'll keep hunting and report back if I meet with success

I did disable the onboard video, but it did not seem to help, no audio, and the playback on videos was not working correctly, I was trying to build a low-power and quiet Hybrid/Core, but I may have chosen my hardware unwisely...

Just as a running log in hopes this may help someone along the way, I re-installed the entire system (10.04) using the NVidia card but I could not get sound out of the HDMI so I went back and tried the HDMI connector on the mobo which also is not giving me a good UI as Video files do not play correctly and when they do show there is no way to stop them, fast forward, etc...

Other issues, Insteon is slow to set up and I cannot get the 7970 Phone orbiter to show up...

Kind of stuck....

Not sure if this is correct, but it finally got my 7970 registered;

Press Menu Button on the phone, get to "Network Configuration" and select
Press "**#" to unlock
Scroll to Alternate TFTP and make it "Yes"
Scroll up to "TFTP Server 1" and put the address of your Core in (default 192.168.80.1)
Press "Save"

That got my phone registered although I was unable to get the Orbiter on the screen, so this may not be the correct way to do this....

I bought a Geforce GT 610 Video Card to try and avoid the issues I've been running into, now I get "Failed to setup X" on startup, I'm poking in the dark, but I did this so far;

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
apt-get -y install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core --force-yes
rm /etc/X11/xorg.con*
reboot

Still the same result, if anyone has an idea please chime in...

Had go for scrambled boobs as I learn how to use ssh...

My uname value was not as you specified, so I ran the commands, the first time I tried I typed "libgl1" incorrectly (thought it was "eleven" on the end) got a message that libg11 package was not found (of course) and then would just get a grey background after going through the AV Wizard.

I realized my mistake this morning, so I re-ran everything but I still get the grey background, none of the tests following UI choice show anything but a black arrow on a grey background.

I may have broke this by not getting libgl1 correct the first time...

Pardon my ignorance, but I think I got it (I had a tough time finding the vertical line, it shows up as a broken line, but I got something...)

00:01.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Trinity [Radeon HD 7660D] [1002:9901]

I know from the forums that NVidia is the way to go for LinuxMCE, but I had seen on the Forums that support for Radeon was working. Maybe I just need to get an NVidia card...only issue is that I don't have my capture or tuning card(s) yet and then I won't have room on my mobo. I may not need this as a Hybrid, ideally if the Android stick computers could work as a Media Director, but not sure about any progress in that direction.

OK, thanks for the information, I cleared out my xorg.con* file, AV wizard starts again, and I tried several resolutions. My display is connected via HDMI and it is capable of 1080p, but when I try higher resolutions the menu does not show up again, it must be something with the GPU. I'll keep fooling around with it and report back my findings. I also may opt for a dedicated Graphics card and try it that way.

I believe the issue in this case was due to incorrect resolution during AV setup, in searching the forums I found a hint that that resolution might be the culprit. I re-ran AV Wizard and chose a lower resolution..

Now I can get to the buttons on the screen, thanks for the help!

Now onto Insteon setup.....

Are you kidding? no need for sorry, I'm thankful for the efforts on this project, I wish I knew how to code to help...

One question though, how do I get to anything other than the Flickr art? When the computer boots up it goes right into the flickr background with the arrows. I'm not a Linux pro, so I'm not sure what to do to get around this..

Thanks again...

Installation issues / 10.04 Install issue

I've finally taken the plunge and installed MCE 10.04. I got "Failed to setup X" when I tried the DVD install, so I followed the instructions on installing over Kubuntu and it worked. I got through the AV Wizard and saw Sarah, when I rebooted it goes right into flickr on the background, I get a cursor with 4 arrows that I can move around with my mouse, but I cannot get to anything else.

I looked for a way to get to something else during boot up but have not had any luck.

My Core is using

AMD A10
Gigabyte GA-F2A8585X-UP4
Using the onboard HDMI to a Samsung Display

When I click the mouse or hit some of the Function keys I can get a flash of something in the background that looks like the menu

Thanks for any help,

Feature requests & roadmap / Anyone using Ceton's Infinitv4 PCIe?
« on: March 06, 2013, 07:06:03 pm »
Has anyone tried this card for US cable? I'm on Comcast; called technical support and they said it would work, but they have no clue about how with LinuxMCE.

Thanks for the effort, I wish I had coding skills to support your effort, but I do not. I just wanted to offer another idea to get this done; would it be possible to use USB "soundcards" for each zone, and then use individual amps (might be more flexible and lower cost)?

http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=216778522&sellerid=29345858

http://www.amphony.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=2

That way the distributed audio could be centralized (at the core location with speaker wires to each zone), or they could be separated to each Media Director in each zone (I would imagine synchronizing the audio would then be the hurdle). If the idea has merit, I'd like to help somehow; I can donate the hardware if it helped the cause...
