Let me just explain my setup: Currently I'm just trying to fire up my core. My core has nothing attached to it on the internal network although the 2nd NIC is installed. It connects to the internet through my external network's router via the other NIC. There is only 1 graphics card - the Nvidia 8400. The mobo has no built in graphics card. Only 1 x 500Gb HD currently - once it's up & running I'll add some TB drives with Raid for storage.
Thanks for your xorg l3mce. It certainly contains a lot more info in the nvidia & monitor sections than mine which presumably points to a nvidia card problem.
So assuming I have a graphic card problem I want to try this again:
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers.
I have tried this previously but ran into various problems which caused this thread to start.
I have since managed to download the new driver as per Zaerc :
Code:
wget
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/256.53/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-256.53.run (Still cant get pkg1 version shown on the Display Drivers page to work)
However when I do the sh for this I get: No such file or directory
Also when I try telinit 1 my core starts up the Kubuntu screen and then freezes.
So I need to get past these problems.
Any help much appreciated
