Thom

Are you using your card on a 810 installation?

Core or MD?

Thanks l3mce

OK . Unfortunately I live way out in the bush so will have to wait until I get to a town. Sad

Thom, please suggest a course of action, whatever I try I end up at the blue screen with the AVwizard faied to set up X.
Also lately my screen then starts getting overwritten with with lines of text a la "The Matrix", just slower scroll. Is this what is known as a kernel panic?
65  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: AV Wizard - Failed to setup X - can't download driver on: October 02, 2010, 06:54:25 pm
Let me just explain my setup: Currently I'm just trying to fire up my core. My core has nothing attached to it on the internal network although the 2nd NIC is installed. It connects to the internet through my external network's router via the other NIC. There is only 1 graphics card - the Nvidia 8400. The mobo has no built in graphics card. Only 1 x 500Gb HD currently - once it's up & running I'll add some TB drives with Raid for storage.

Thanks for your xorg l3mce. It certainly contains a lot more info in the nvidia & monitor sections than mine which presumably points to a nvidia card problem.

So assuming I have a graphic card problem I want to try this again: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers.

I have tried this previously but ran into various problems which caused this thread to start.

I have since managed to download the new driver as per Zaerc :
Code:
wget http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/256.53/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-256.53.run
(Still cant get pkg1 version shown on the Display Drivers page to work)

However when I do the sh for this I get: No such file or directory

Also when I try telinit 1 my core starts up the Kubuntu screen and then freezes.

So I need to get past these problems.

Any help much appreciated

Thanks for clearing that up Posde.

Now can somebody please comment on my xorg.conf file, I still think it should have more info in it. If the xorg.conf log shows e.g my monitor make, model and even manufacturing date, shouldn't some of that show up in the xorg .conf ?

Oh, btw, couldn't ssh in via 192.168.80.1. had to log in via IP address assigned by my router.

Is that how it should be?

And here's my xorg.conf. This one worries me - shouldn't there be more in here?
