Posed,

local, and you have to disable the firewall on your core.
I already can connect using the WebOrbiter, so firewall is not a problem. (My firewall configuration has: Advance / Network / Firewall rules / IPv4 Firewall disabled)

Here are my settings:
Description: iOs Orbiter
Installation number: 1025897
Device number: 47 (tried also 46)
User name: avner
Password: *****
Nerve Centre IP: 192.168.1.62

Using "Connect locally"

With this I think I have covered all the possible options.
What else could be wrong?

Thanks,
Avner

Posde,

a Device Template number is not a Device number. The device number is number of the device that is being created on your system probably a 2 or 3 digit number.
I tried using both device numbers. Still no connection (In my case these are: Device #46: iPod Touch Orbiter, Device #47: Generic Proxy Orbiter).

Quote
Re installation ID: As has been said numerous times by Andrew, that number is only relevant in case you have a Dianemo system, as it will allow remote access to your system via a Dianemo server.
So in my case where the installation number is irrelevant, leaving this field with my lmce 7 digit installation number would not hurt, right? (I get an error message: Incomplete form data if leaving it blank).

Regarding local / remote connection, from what I understand:
• Connecting on the internal interface (192.168.80.1) requires local connection.
• Connecting using the ISP IP (e.g. 108.172.78.127) requires remote connection, and may only be possible if you have a Dianemo system.
• Connecting on the external interface within the lan (192.168.1.62) requires Huh connection.
In my case,  I am trying to connect using the external Ip address of the Core within the lan (192.168.1.62). I tried both local and remote connections. What connection should I use?

Hi fibres,
Thanks for posting the comments.

I followed your instructions and extracted the installation number from the top left corner of the main lmce-admin page. I then restarted the iPod (did not find a way to close the app) but the connection still fails. I tried unsuccessfully to connect using locally and remotely.
The wiki page Dianemo iOS Orbiter in http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Dianemo_iOS_Orbiter mentions:
•  Installation No. - enter your Dianemo Systems 5 digit installation id or your LinuxMCE installation number in this field.
•  Device No. - enter the device number of the 'Generic Web Device' here ** Not a port number as in v1.0 **.

My questions:
  • The installation number in the main lmce-admin page has 7 digits, not 5.
  • I’m not sure exactly, which device number to use? I tried both again - Generic Web Device: 1748 and Generix Proxy Orbiter: 1749
    Is there
  • still a need to specify the port number somewhere else (the wiki instructs not to specify it in the “Device Number” field)?

Staying hopeful.

19  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Can Dianemo iOS Orbiter be used for a non Dianemo linuxmce installation? on: July 01, 2012, 05:52:53 pm
I looked at the wiki for ios orbiter.
The wiki is not specific if the Dianemo iOS Orbiter, can work on regular (non Dianemo) lmce installations.
The wiki instructs to “Check http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Web_Orbiter_2.0 for the Device Number”. I tried setting the device number to the possible template numbers (Generic Web Device: 1748, Generix Proxy Orbiter: 1749). It didn’t help. The connection still fails.
Also, where do I fill the Dianemo Systems 5 digit installation number from?

Thanks,
Avner
20  LinuxMCE / Users / Can Dianemo iOS Orbiter be used for a non Dianemo linuxmce installation? on: July 01, 2012, 01:50:48 am
Hello,

I downloaded the app Dianemo iOS Orbiter (version 1.5) from the App store to my iPod Touch (version 4.2.1)
From what I read the Dianemo iOS Orbiter is based on the RoamingOrb app that works (partially) on my iPod.
I have a general lmce  (8.10) installation - not a Dianemo installation. Can the Dianemo iOS Orbiter app be used to control lmce in such case?
If yes:
1. How do I configure the following fields, in the Configuration tab:
    a) Installation number
    b) Device number
2. Where do I fill in the Port number (similar to the Port (3461) in the configuration of the RoamingOrb app)?

Thanks,
Avner
21  LinuxMCE / Users / RoamingOrb renders incorrectly on iPod Touch on: July 01, 2012, 01:36:56 am
Hello,

I downloaded the app RoamingOrb (version 1.04) from the App store to my iPod Touch (version 4.2.1)
Even before I connect to the Core, the rendering in the iPod is in correct. The right 1/3rd part of the screen is blank and the bottom part of the page is missing (spills off the screen).
I didn’t find a way to configure the resolution / layout for this app. In the general Settings App, I cannot see the RoamingOrb in the list of installed apps.

Any idea on what is going wrong?

Thanks,
Avner
22  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Core as a VM on a mac OSX server on: February 18, 2012, 08:41:09 am
Thanks for the clarification.

I will keep the bare-metal hypervisor solution in mind - it sounds like a good way to manage multiple snapshots and with better performance.
In the meantime, I found a workaround to my problem using VMPlayer - ugly but it works for me (in http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php/topic,12387.0.html)
By the way, I am circumventing the limitation to back up multiple snapshots with VMPlayer relatively easily, by copying the entire vm directory to a different directory.

23  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Orbiter turns black - The target device 21 (routed to 21) has not registered on: February 18, 2012, 08:28:00 am
I found an ugly solution but it works for me.
Occasionally, when Orbiter becomes non responsive (completely black or simply does not show up) I open a console (either from a KDE session or from e.g. tty2) and apply
Code:
sudo killall -9 Orbiter
A new orbiter is kicked in after few seconds.
When X is lost (e.g. after moving to tty2 (Alt-Cntrl-F2) and closing the VM), X can be restored by going to e.g. tty2 and typing:
Code:
sudo su -
/usr/pluto/bin/Start_X_Wrapper.sh
The orbiter regenerates (progress green line at the bottom of the screen) and orbiter shows up

Hopefuly this will help the next person who tackles this problem.

24  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Core as a VM on a mac OSX server on: February 16, 2012, 09:49:51 am
Sorry if I'm derailing the discussion a bit off topic. I can start a new thread but I think my question relate to at least one part (the Core as VM)

The one drawback of using VMWare's VSphere is that the UI for managing it runs only under Windows.
So does this means that you install VMWare's VSphere on Windows?
From what I read, bare-metal hypervisor installs directly without Host OS below it. Is bare-metal hypervisor different from VMWare's VSphere?

In my case, I have:
1) A dedicated machine for LMCE as native host.
2) A second machine, Windows Vista that serves for general computer use (email, games for my daughters etc...)
Needless to say that the second (Windows) machine has more resources to satisfy the family needs (daughters complaining about speed)
With the performance differences and easy access to application (such as Word, email), I find it much easier to develop, customize my LMCE environment in a virtual machine on top of the Windows OS machine.

As I understand, with VMWare's VSphere / bare-metal hypervisor, I'll lose the native host Windows OS. It that correct?
I personally don't mind the low performance of LMCE in VMplayer as long as LMCE will evetually respond. I say this because I am planning to use the VM mainly to test settings, before transferring it to the dedicated LMCE machine (However, what I experience is that the Orbiter turns completely non responsive after a while).

Thanks,
Avner
25  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Orbiter turns black - The target device 21 (routed to 21) has not registered on: February 15, 2012, 04:17:25 am
I read a bit more about the plug and play Plug-in. When it detects a new device it attempt to determine what device template is on the path
(http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Plug%26play). So assuming that there is a new device that is not recognized the plug and play Plug-in would launch multiple scripts for all possible device templates. Assuming that this is a transitory process the list of Spawn_PNP Detection scripts could probably be ignored.

I haven't touched the orbiter for a day. After a day it still appears black. The latest log information from DCERouter.log and the list of Span processes that are in the system are attached below.
Could this information explain the condition for the black non responsive orbiter?
Note that the system load is low (observed in top) and other OS components (e.g. konsole terminal in KDE desktop) are responsive.

Thanks,
Avner

I use VMWare's vsphere (ESXi) and love it, especially for beta testing. Yes, either run dual networks or use the LMCE DHCP server. Either will be fine but pick one of those two options for the best results.

WhateverFits,
Do you know how well VMWare's vsphere will perform in context of LMCE compared to VMWarePlayer?
I'm trying VMWarePlayer. It works ok with the LMCE Kubuntu as an OS guest (I can access the KDE desktop, invoke the terminal and other Linux executables, etc... ) but have problems with the LMCE itself. The plug and play is executing Spawn scripts for devices that I do not have and the orbiter is non responsive (see http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php/topic,12387.0.html)
Do you think that VMWare's vsphere (ESXi) would help with this?

Thanks,
Avner
27  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / [SOLVED] LMCE within VMPlayer - Orbiter ocasionaly turns black / non responsive on: February 13, 2012, 06:33:23 am
Hello,

I am trying to set up LinuxMce as a guest inside Windows Vista host using vmware player.
I did the following:
* Downloaded and installed LinuxMCE-8.10-final
* Followed the instructions in: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installing_0810 (section Internet Instalation):
Code:
Edited the file /etc/apt/sources.list to point to the new location for interpid packages.
sudo su - #This might ask for the password you specified earlier during the install of kubuntu.
   apt-get update
   sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
   apt-get install medibuntu-keyring
   wget -c http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/new-installer-latest.tar.gz
   tar xvf new-installer-latest.tar.gz
   cd new-installer
   ./pre-install-from-repo.sh
   ./mce-install.sh
   ./post-install.sh
   reboot

I had to resort to vmware player version 4.0.1 as the newer version 4.0.2 had problems to install VmwareTools

The problem I'm having is:
* Orbiter stops responding after a short while and shows as black rectangle
* In addition, the aother two windows: pluto-xine-playback-window and picture-viewer are always black

Any of the following actions did not resolve the problem:
* Quick regenration of Orbiter
* Full regenration of Orbiter
* Restart Router
* reboot

After reboot lmce automatically detects and runs the a list of scripts such as:
Code:
99_WaveTrend_RFID.sh
99_VidikronTV.sh
99_Runco_VX2c.sh
99_RuncoTV.sh
99_PioneerPlasma.sh
99_PLCBUS_1141.sh
88_InsteonPLM.sh
85_PioneerKuro.sh
80_GatewayPlasma.sh
60_ApexAlarmPanel.sh
40_Oppo.sh
40_Mitsubishi_Plasma.sh
30_JVC.sh
20_kwikwai.sh
20_rain8net.sh

20_NAD_Receiver.sh
20_MarantzReceiver.sh
20_LG_TV.sh
20_DenonReceiver.sh
Spawn_serialports_18826.log

Looking in the log files I noticed the following errors in /var/log/pluto/DCERouter.log:

Code:
...
05 02/12/12 14:01:35.011 [33;1mThe target device 20 (routed to 20) has not registered. [0m <0xb669ab90>

...

I don't know what triggers the above scripts and how to stop them from running automatically after reboot.
I think they are related to the problem as they invoke commands to device 20, which is the source of the problem in a similar problem in http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=10694.0

28  LinuxMCE / Users / What is the recommended hardware to set up a core without media capabilities? on: October 14, 2011, 06:30:18 am
Hello,

The wiki site in: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Core recommends a high performance machine, even if not using it is a hybrid, mainly to store and serve media data.
I am looking to set up a core that will mainly control appliances (via zwave) and will not store or serve any media (no tv card, video files, or audio). Ideally it would be small, portable and inexpensive.

What is the recommended hardware to set up such a core?

30  LinuxMCE / Users / Closing / openning a driveway gate from remote on: September 27, 2011, 06:28:09 am
Hello,

I'm looking to control a driveway gate through linuxMce. So far, I didn't find a gate motor that can be controlled via zwave or X10. I did find the following heavy duty zwave relay (http://www.smarthome.com/119303/Z-Wave-30A-Relay-Contactor-Module-CA3750/p.aspx) but it is marked as discontinued. Another option is to use a zwave switch to control a non-zwave heavy duty relay that controls a regular gate motor.
Also, the zwave specifications mention a range of 30 meters assuming "open air". The distance may be an issue because the straight line from the house to the gate is obstructed by shrubs.

Is anyone familiar with:
1.   Using LinuxMce to control a motor a heavier load motor (e.g. contrary to a blind motor within the  home), using zwave, X10 or other means?
2.   Controlling from a larger distance?

Regards,
Avner
