Users / Re: Gray screen on playback of VC-1 video codec

as far as I can tell.. all codec packages are installed.   MKV files can play fine as long as they are MPEG video.

Users / Gray screen on playback of VC-1 video codec
« on: October 16, 2011, 06:55:22 pm »
Hi gang,
I 'obtained' a media file (mkv) that has video codec of 'Microsoft VC1'.   The audio plays but the video screen is solid gray.   I can play this file on Kubuntu 11.10 just fine.  I am running LMCE 1004, latest build.

On the MD, the Hardware Acceleration is set to 'auto' ... tried at 'vdpau' also, but didnt change anything.

Here is a snippet from the Xine log file on the MD:

Im running 1004.. over the past few months, alot of issues have been fixed.   Movies play great... Mythtv works great...

You can install from the directions in that wiki.

Even though not using your script, Ive found that External Media Identifier doesnt work because it is asking for libdvdread3 when 1004 using libdvdread4.

I installed libdvdread3 and now E.M.I is working.

Ive got 910 files in there (there should be 2 each for each title --- one pic is smaller than the other)  that leaves 405...   ive got around 300 movies on my core, and maybe 50 cds.

Something is 'afoot' with yours...

It is fixable...

Ive not been able to find a way to 'rebuild' the attributes for media files without going to each one thru the admin web interface using  Files and Media > Media Files Sync.

Even a re-install will not fix it.. at least Ive not been able to with about 8 to 10 re-installations of 8.10 and 10.04.

If someone else knows a 'trick' I'd sure like to know.

Installation issues / Re: R8168.ko issues / Diskless MD issues
« on: September 14, 2011, 12:25:56 am »
You can grab the latest Realtek driver for that NIC from the RealTek website.   You'll have to follow the instructions in http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Unrecognized_NIC   and this http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Realtek_8168..
This all gets done from your CORE/Hybrid machine... you'll have to create the initial MD via the admin web page > Media Directors..  once the directory under /usr/pluto/diskless/xx   (xx is the MD number) is created, you'll have to follow the instructions on the Unrecognized NIC link  and/or  the Realtek link

I'm not smart enough to figure out WHY the old codes stopped working... but using xev, i wrote down the codes generated for the buttons.. then tested them in the template..

It was ROUGH without the remote working.

Users / latest 1004 update breaks web admin
« on: September 10, 2011, 04:27:24 pm »
Howdy,
running apt-get upgrade to latest packages '11090924603' breaks the admin web interface.   Login screen appears but after login, the resulting screen is blank...   remote access to admin web interface yields same result.

I also noticed that on my MD, the Gyration remote is back to only a few buttons working.. easily fixable though.   And my Generic Serial Device for my receiver isnt working... but I cant get into web admin to see whats up.

Hopefully one of the gurus can figure out whats afoot!.

<UPDATE>
I re-installed the previous versions of the update, but no affect on web admin.   Re-installation of the latest made no changes either.

did you select UI2 'WITH' Alpha blending?  (the 3rd option)   If so.. its not working (at least on mine)..   Select the 2nd in the list.  then regen.

I also had no flickr pictures and video was black screen with audio both tv and ripped dvds.

Only thing is that a blu-ray video is quite nice compared to DVD.

Trust me.. it takes awhile... I get frustrated waiting for it as well (as I tend to do alot of 'rebuilding' of my MD when I am testing/reconfiguring).
