i see user public_mona in the error above...
you arent making things any easier by trying to access stuff from the external network. please try to use the system as it was designed, it was done that way for a reason.
the system also uses nfs, but this is locked down to the internal network so you would need to change that if you wanted to use nfs instead of samba.

I understand that, but the firewall is disabled.  Plus, samba isn't locked down to only the LinuxMCE network, otherwise I wouldn't see the errors I'm seeing.

I concede your point and will try connecting to samba again from inside the LinuxMCE LAN.

And did you try user pluto_mona with password Mona?

Yes - just now.  The thing is, the error in the logs for both pluto_mona and pluto_ranbir is that the user wasn't found:

Code: [Select]
[2012/02/18 10:08:34,  2] auth/auth.c:320(check_ntlm_password)
  check_ntlm_password:  Authentication for user [public_mona] -> [public_mona] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER

I don't have any Windows PCs, but I do have a Blackberry PlayBook and an Android phone.  Those two devices use smb/cifs for file sharing.  So, getting samba working isn't a pressing need, but it sure would be nice to have.

Check what's in /etc/samba/smbpasswd - maybe that gives some insight.

I looked. It looks normal to me, I guess.

Code: [Select]
pluto_ranbir:10000:PASWORDSTUFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF:[U          ]:LCT-00000001:,,,
pluto_mona:10001:PASWORDSTUFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF:[U          ]:LCT-00000001:,,,

Total fail on my Google Nexus S.  I get a black screen when I start QOrbiter.  Once I managed to get the "config" screen where you input your Core's IP and whatnot, but I couldn't actually do anything on it - the screen was locked up.

I haven't tried rebooting the phone, so I'll try that next.

After much experimentation, I finally got a combo that seems to work:

Skin: Titanium Blue
Size: 1080i or 1080p
UI: Normal Horizontal (3:4)

Nothing else works.  Buttons either don't anything, or they're simply missing.  In some cases, the screen just flashes when buttons are pressed. I wish I knew why the other skins don't work.

I'm happy I have SOMETHING that is usable. Now, onto creating some more orbiters.

Well, are you sure you put in the right username and password? Both are case-sensitive. I just tested it, and it works just dandy for me.

So I tried changing the smb password for "pluto_joe".  I got this:

Code: [Select]
Failed to find entry for user pluto_joe.
When I try changing the smb password for "joe", there is no error.  But, the "smbpasswd" file's time stamp doesn't change.  That tells me the passwd wasn't actually updated.

I created a new user and tried your password suggestion.  I saw the same result.

Something is broken.

I will give this a go on my Google Nexus S sometime today.

I recovered the array with:

Code: [Select]
mdadm --assemble /dev/md1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1
It's rebuilding right now.

I hope I don't have to do this all the time!

I'm reconsidering my idea of putting the LinuxMCE OS and the media storage all in box.  Maybe it would be safer to separate the two, though I was trying to avoid that.

In LinuxMCE 10.04, I created a RAID 1 array.  Things looked cool, so I copied some media to it.  I rebooted the core.  The RAID 1 array didn't come back, and LinuxMCE reported the array as failed.  Sweet!

I checked /proc, and instead of seeing md1, I saw md_d1.  WTF.

I'm pretty sure I can recover it - again.  Yes, it's failed twice, and both times was because of a reboot of the core.

I think this is a bug.  Where do I report this (though maybe the devs already know)?

try pluto_joe with password joe

Tried that - no go.  I tried changing the password - same error.

Sounds that the orbiter didnt generate properly.
Try a full regen in the web admin of the orbiter in question.

I would agree with your assessment (because I found other posts here saying the same), but all I've ever done are full regenerations.  I don't know when one is supposed to use the "quick regen", so I don't use it.

I've also tried deleting the orbiters and recreating them.  I see the same result each time.

Do you see any errors in /var/log/samba/*

"no such user" errors. So, what user am I supposed to login with?

Assume my name is joe.  If I log into the web admin interface with "joe", does that mean my samba user name is "joe" too?

Users / LMCE 10.04: Web orbiter buttons don't do anything
« on: February 11, 2012, 03:46:39 pm »
I created a web orbiter to be used from Firefox running on my desktop.  The generation appears to complete properly.

When I bring the orbiter up in my browser and then for example click on the media button, a little circle pops up and spins a couple of times, followed by a screen flash.  That's it.

Interesting.

If I change the skin, I lose buttons.  For example the media button never gets rendered.  Sometimes changing the skin doesn't actually change anything on the screen.  That is, I still see the old skin on the screen.

What gives?  :-[

Are you trying to access the smb shares from the "inside" or "outside"?

"Outside", which is my non-LinuxMCE network.

If you are connecting from the outside is the firewall disabled or the necessary ports open?

Firewall is disabled.  I can bring up my web orbiter's, for example.

no its not. this errror will be fixed soon, been really busy with QOrbiter

Ah.  Well, as long as I know I didn't do anything.  I click and poke around so much, I wouldn't have been surprised to have been told I'd caused the problem.
