Installation issues / 2 tuner trouble
« on: May 10, 2011, 09:14:16 am »
Hi,

because MythTv is reconfiguring my /dev/video# (when rebooting and sometimes when running) and sometimes 'forgets' my default video-source i am making udev rules for both my 2 tv-tuners and for my usb-webcam.
i succeeded in doing so for the webcam.

i made 2 udev rules for my analog tv-tuners and they show up in the /dev/ but when i point mythtv to them i get no picture.

my udev rules:
for my pvr150 i added the rule: "10-tv-tuner-pvr150.rules" with the line:
Code: [Select]
KERNEL=="video[0-9]*", ATTR{name}=="ivtv0*", SYMLINK+="pvr150"
for my Asus saa7134 i added the rule: "11-tv-tuner-asustv.rules" with the line:
Code: [Select]
KERNEL=="video[0-9]*", ATTR{name}=="saa7134*", SYMLINK+="asustv"
does anybody have a clue why i get no picture using these symlinks?

thanks up front,
br,
Raymond

Users / Automatic tv-show thumbnails in mythtv
« on: April 16, 2011, 02:14:14 pm »
Hi All,

In the lmce-video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2176025602905109829&hl=en#) there is shown how to add tv-show-thumbnails to your recordings in MythTv.
It is my understanding that that should happen automaticly.
unfortunately in my install it doesn't.
Could someone please give me a bit of help to accomplish this?.

thanks a lot

Installation issues / Updating your system
« on: March 09, 2011, 03:21:46 pm »
Hi guys,

Today i updated my core and md to the latest and greatest.
first i updated my core, 14 packages updated,
second i updated my MD, 4 packages updated! and complaining that it could not find stuff (sorry don't remember the details)

now i have 3 questions:
1- how can i check that everything is updated ok?
2- must i update the source-list of the MD too? i looked in /usr/pluto/diskless/XX/etc/apt/sources.list which showed me:
Code: [Select]
deb file:/usr/pluto/deb-cache/ ./
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid  main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid  main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-updates  main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-updates  main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/ intrepid  beta2
deb http://debian.slimdevices.com/ stable  main
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ intrepid  free non-free
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-security  main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-security  main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/ 20dev_ubuntu  main
deb http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/ replacements_ubuntu  main
deb http://fastspeedtest.net/mirrors/ubuntu/ replacements_debian  main
deb http://fastspeedtest.net/mirrors/ubuntu/ intrepid  universe multiverse
deb http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/ replacements_debian  main
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid  universe main
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ replacements_debian  main

when i look in /etc/apt/sources.list it showes me:
Code: [Select]
deb file:/usr/pluto/deb-cache/ ./
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid  main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid  main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-updates  main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-updates  main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/ intrepid  beta2
deb http://debian.slimdevices.com/ stable  main
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ intrepid  free non-free
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-security  main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-security  main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/ 20dev_ubuntu  main

deb http://fastspeedtest.net/mirrors/ubuntu/ replacements_debian  main
deb http://fastspeedtest.net/mirrors/ubuntu/ intrepid  universe multiverse
deb http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/ replacements_debian  main

3- are those source lists ok or must they be changed, somehow on the CORE they give me a error of a duplicate or something and when running the update on MD i get lots of errors, but all seems to work right now?

thanks for the help,
br,

Hi,

Hardware:
asus k8v se deluxe with onboard SoundMax ADI ad1980, i use the spdif-coax bracket that i got with the mobo.
Installed on this mobo a extra soundblaster live!

The Soundblaster live! i wanna use in the future as a squeezeslave.
The onboard spdif-coax (through bracket) i hooked up to my reciever (Onkyo TX-SR600E)
I used that connection on my reciever with my dvd-player so i know its good.

Problem:
in webadmin under MD it says sound card: soundblaster live! and when i change it its set-back to this!
and the strange thing is under advanced, section sound card it says "no sound cards found"

Question:
How do i get my md to default to spdif-coax-onboard-soundcard?

thanks for any help in advanced,
br,
Raymond

Installation issues / md kernel panic
« on: February 02, 2011, 01:13:40 pm »
trying to get my md working (asus K8V se deluxe, 1 gig, amd 3200+, connected to 32" crt via component)

what i did:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
added my resolution (576i) according to: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Custom_Display_Resolutions
changed /usr/pluto/bin/nvidia-install.sh to:http://svn.linuxmce.org/trac.cgi/changeset/23588 and http://svn.linuxmce.org/trac.cgi/changeset/23635
executed /usr/pluto/bin/Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh

and then let the md pxe-boot without interfering and in the end i get:

[ 94.348339] kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

also it still seems to install nvidia 173 driver, don't know how or why.

don't know how to proceed,
could anybody help me out on this one?

Installation issues / [SOLVED!] Mythtv changing input connections
« on: January 31, 2011, 02:45:33 pm »
Hi all,

whenever i give my core a reboot i must adjust menu #4 (Input connections) of the MythTv setup,
somehow after the reboot LMCE changes the videoX number of my WinTV-PVR-150 card and the videoX number of my USB webcam wich i configured via motionwrapper.
is there a way to prevent this behaviour?

besides, after updating, i can't seem to switch channels anymore, what could be the cause of this?

Developers / Starting a new Skin
« on: January 31, 2011, 02:35:48 pm »
Hi All,

I want to start making/editing skins, for starters (and for learning) i want to keep it simple and just make new graphics files for a existing skin like discribed in this wiki: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Create_my_own_skins_or_GUI_for_LinuxMCE
But i don't want to mess up any existing skins so i want to copy a skin and start from there.
For example:
take /usr/pluto/orbiter/skins/Basic directory and copy and rename it to /usr/pluto/orbiter/skins/BasicNew wich i can alter.

could someone please explain in detail how to make such a copy of a existing skin (i don't want to mess-up the system)
and how to get acces (read/write) to this directory from a laptop inside the internal lan.

thanks,
br,

Raymond

« on: January 31, 2011, 02:21:09 pm »
Hi all,

i wanted to test the UPnP server of LMCE but could find it on my network so i looked at:
webadmin -> Advanced -> Configuration -> UPnP Server
all it did show was a big message: 500 Internal Server Error

does anybody have any idea as how to solve this?

thanks upfront,

Users / Snapshot
« on: December 05, 2010, 02:08:51 pm »
Hi all,

maybe a bit of a stupid question but here it comes anyway :) :

in the wiki (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/LinuxMCE-0810_beta) i saw that there is a new Update,
but when i look here at http://linuxmce.iptp.org/snapshots/ i saw that the snapshot is only 2.2G big.
question:
when i do sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade will i be getting all of the updates from Update 2010-12-05 23479?
and will everything be installed the way it is supposed to be or will there be issues?

Developers / Device templates
« on: November 22, 2010, 03:24:10 pm »
Hi all,

I am in the middle of making a GSD-device for my Ocelot and a few device templates for my AV-gear (tv, receiver, cable box)
and have a few questions.

for my ocelot i use a usb to serial adapter must i still use the serial hack (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Serial_Hack)
or is setting the comport to: /dev/ttyUSB0 sufficient?

in the plug & play section of the gsd-device how do i get the MAC-adress, where can i find it?

my approach for the GSD-ocelot-device:
i learn every ir-code i need in the ocelot, giving a device 50 memory locations.

i only use #384 Process Receive Command for Child field, in here i wrote a Ruby program that generates a serial-command that the Ocelot understands.
to generate this command i use:
- device_.childdevices_[cmd.devidto_].devdata_[12] to get the port-number, which i assign to the port-number of my Ocelot.
- cmd.id_ to get the command (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Command_Table) fired within LinuxMCE to calculate the stored ir-position (wich one from the 50 of 1 device) in the Ocelot.
- cmd.devidto_ to get the device to determine if i must be in location 52, 102, 152 etc (every 50 is a deferent device).

my assumption was that when i add AV-devices it automatically generates a 'remote' in UI1 on a orbiter, so if i would press Move Up on a orbiter (which is cmd.id 200) my ruby-prog would pickup this signal and send the appropriate command to the Ocelot.

But there are no 'remotes' generated.

am i seeing things wrong? or did i forget to configure something?
in the AV-device section what comport must i use?

br,
Raymond

Installation issues / connecting a CRT-TV via Component-video
« on: November 20, 2010, 01:39:22 pm »
hi all,

Somewhere in the forums i did read that Hari successfully uses a crt-tv connected via component-video.
Myself, i have a beautiful Loewe Mimo 32" 16:9 (PAL 576i) crt-tv with component in.
My MD has a GT6600 nvidia-card.
I just don't seem to get the configuration exactly right.

The part i did figure out is that i need to make a custom screen-resolution (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Custom_Display_Resolutions) but with what values?
Or is there a other (better) way to do this? only via webadmin maybe, but how?
i did manage to get a picture but the tv doesn't detect it as a 16:9 resolution.

Anybody got a idea? Hari :)?

thanks a lot,
best regards,
Raymond
