Thanks Thom.  I don't suppose there is a way to duct tape it?  I'm thinking I'll re-wrap my usb uirt and save it for another day, but I'm curious...

The Climate plugin does not inherit from the infrared code, and thus climate devices can't currently be IR controlled (unless somebody has checked in code for this at some point...)

You wouldn't want to do this anyway, IR devices are a compromise for the A/V world, and as such, you'll run into all sorts of funky quirks because IR is unidirectional and incapable of communicating back its state to the system.

-Thom

Is that the only reason not to do it?  Are you saying Lmce may send a command to turn on the AC when it's already on, which will inadvertently turn it off?  As long as that's the only issue I could live with that.  I don't really want Lmce to automate anything with the AC like turning it on when the room gets to hot.  It would be more on demand, like i'm to lazy to get up to turn on the AC, i'll just use LMCE.

I'm a little confused about your first statement.  The climate plugin does not inherit from the infrared code. You said climate devices can't be controlled by IR but then you said unless someone checked in codes.  How do I check in the codes?  I have the remote for the AC so I can probably create a dummy template or use an existing template for an IR controlled a/v device so I can get the codes.  Sorry if we're going in circles, I just want to understand this better.

The idea hit me like truck Yesterday, There's a room in my house with a IR controllable AC plus I have an extra usb uirt i'm not using.  It only seems right that these two devices get put to use together.

I created a template from scratch (to the best of my ability) for a window air conditioning unit and I configured it to be control VIA IR.  When I'm all said and done I do not see where I can add IR codes for the device I just created.  I even tried using a template that's already created, RAS-Series Air Conditioning, I figured I could just change the IR codes to those for my unit but I still don't see or understand how to add the IR codes.  This is how I setup some of my A/V devices (picked a template and changed the codes) but that made more sense to me.

Can someone point me in the right direction?  I have the remote for the air conditioner so I'll just need to learn the codes.

My core started out as a hybrid, but for installation purposes only. Since then, I have setup AutoStartMedia to 0, and it works just fine.

hmmm, I think I'm going to try that this weekend... after a backup of course.

Josh - My core/hybrid is just sitting in a corner also.  I just figured the MD functions are sitting there wastefully using up resources.  Although my core is fast enough maybe it could be faster with the extra resources available.  Plus if a core only install runs well virtualized I'll gain hardware to add an MD to my garage without spending a dime.  Just a thought, I could be wrong.

Thanks Josh.

Doesn't look like a core only setup is a good idea.  I know I've read on here that people are using just a core install.  Is a core only install still a bad idea or is it something for the more experienced users?

Is it possible to go from a hybrid to a core installation without reinstalling?  I see posts and wiki articles about going from a core to a hybrid but none the other way.

I just setup a dedicated MD for my office so a hybrid core is no longer needed.  Plus I want to try and install linuxMCE on a VM in my VM farm so I'll have available hardware to use as a MD for my garage.  I want to try it as a core only on physical hardware first so I'll know what kind of performance to expect.

I'll be honest,  lmce is a very humbling project.

in my Home theater I have front and rear lights, now i have them both hooked up to GE Zwave dimmers
I have one dimmer at the entrance to the room and would like it if i could touch the switch and have LMCE switch the front and rear lights on dependent on time of day ETC, but for now just the basics.

I have created two events in respond to events

when device = rear lights = 1 then front lights on
when device = rear lights = 0 then front lights off
i then reload and test it out and nothing, I have a Aeon Zstick 2 and a Aeon Labs MiniMote followed the wiki on SIS/SUC

I've been trying to do the same thing for a while now.  I've determined that either that setup won't work with dimmers or triggering an event by meant of a light switch is not yet implemented.  I finally got a non-dimming switch but I havnt had time to revisit this.

either way, if you figure this out please post an update.  I gave it the better part of a weekend but was unsuccessful.

Purps - try the work around in that link I posted.  My TV isn't doing random channel changing or powering off unexpectedly anymore.

I'm still having issues where it just wont work but it's easier to bring it back.  For example, last night I did a full regen of all orbiters and when it was all said and done my TV stopped working.  I did two quick reloads to try and rectify this(I waited ten minutes after each reloads), finally I rebooted that MD connected to the TV and it started working.  I've been having this issue since I last posted and sometimes a reload fixes it but sometimes I have to reboot the MD in question.  I'm trying to figure out why all of a sudden Lmce stops communicating with my TV?

I also noticed that since that night when all of this just started happening my nas sporadically goes off-line.  I now have to go into web admin and put a check in the "Online" box for the Nas.  After about 5 minutes my media is viewable from the orbiters but after a reload, reboot, or just some time with out use it goes offline again.  I don't know if all of this is somehow related, it's just really weird that everything was finally working and then all hell broke lose.  I wasn't even playing in the system at the time, just watching TV.

I woke up this morning and tried it again now it's working differently from just last night.  After a reload/reboot it connects to the TV much quicker, as soon as the orbiter is displayed the TV turns off (This is what I want).  If I try to watch Hulu or a video everything works as expected, the TV even turns off with everything else when I press the power button.  For some reason if I try to watch TV from my cable box or my blu-ray player the TV turns on then immediately turns off.  When I press power to stop watching media, the TV turns back on then turns off.  Last night it was working except it wouldn't turn the TV off now all it wants to do is turn the TV off.  It appears that I have full control of the TV if I go to resend AV codes and select them manually.

I feel like someone is messing with me, It was working one way when I went to bed and a different way when I woke up... I just don't understand.

I did some searching and stumbled across this (http://svn.linuxmce.org/trac.cgi/ticket/554).  Sounds very close to what I'm experiencing.  Does anyone have any more information on this?  Looks like this bug has been squashed but i think this is the same problem I'm experiencing. First think this morning the TV would turn on, Switch to the correct inputs, then switch back to HDMI2 (MD input).  I reloaded and it started turning off immediately after turning on.  I'll try the work around when I get home tonight.

it's an LG.  I'm using the template for newer LG TVs.

I found my problem though, I broke rule number one.  It took about 2 minutes before the MD would start controlling the TV.  Why is it taking so long all of a sudden is something I'll tackle in the morning.

I still have the original problem though.  If I press Power > Display Off, the TV turns off.  However, if I start playing media and press the power button at the bottom right, the TV stays on.  What ever media I'm playing stops, all devices turn off except the TV.  This all started all of a sudden, any ideas?

Can someone kindly tell me what this means?  This is the error log for my TV.  It was working fine, then it started flaking out slowly (missing every other command etc), within an hour it stopped working completely and I see this in the logs.

Help...  :'(

re Jarvis: There is a skin called Jarvis... I don't know how complete it is, but there is a skin entry for Jarvis in the system

Yea, I was really excited when I saw it and of course I picked that skin first.  I don't think it's complete as it's never worked for me.  All I get is the basic skin without the buttons.

Just don't get a GT210 Nvidia card.

Josh

I second that.  UI1 was horrible and UI2 is a pipe dream.

If you need to reinstall the MD, bear in mind that in the past, possy has recommended that you do not delete MDs, and that instead you should change the MAC address and then the MD will be detected again as a new one. Of course this will leave unused MDs laying around in web admin, but it doesn't matter.

Dang! I wish I knew that yesterday.  I hope I don't have to reinstall.
