:-[ At the risk of sounding silly, what's 0.23?  Are you saying that once this snapshot is available I'll may have better plug and play support for this tuner?

What is your vm sitting on? vmware (if so which one), Parallels, xenapp??

Another option is to bring up another vm.  That's providing you're not using vmware fusion or what ever it's called.  If you installed a server just create a small vm and live boot ubuntu or something.  It should come up on the same network as lmce.  This of course is in theory, again i don't know how you've got it setup.  I have a dedicated vmware server and it communicates with the guest OS with out any trouble. It's all in how you configured the networking.

If you're using some kind of host only network on the virtual box then you can.

Actually even if you're using Nat or bridged connections you should be able to also. In theory, I don't know how you vbox is setup.

I see it's listed as plug and play but it wasn't to plug and play for me.  Still it wasn't to difficult getting it to working.  My biggest issues was not knowing mythtv at all, figuring out what frequency table to use for the channel scan and it took the better part of 2 weeks to realize i wasn't getting a digital signal to my house :-[ .  At first the card wasn't recognized but a quick google search fixed that.  This is truly a bad ass card, it's better in linux than windows 7.  Although easier to setup I never got hd in win7, i don't watch tv enough to care enough to motivate me to fix it.  In lmce though i got hd from the start.  Once driver support for the IR blaster, analogue, and s-video inputs are available this should become the new top choice for lmce.

The point of this thread, I see other post where people have talked about it but no one actually confirmed it as working so i figured i would.  The wiki also needs to be updated and I'm not sure on how to go about doing that.  Can Someone shed some light on that?  I didn't write any drivers or code anything to get this to work.  All the information is readily available on the mythtv wiki but i feel that it should be readily available on the lmce wiki as well.

Also What would it take to get FM radio in lmce?  I'm not looking for anyone to do it for me, hell i don't even know if the current linux drivers support the fm tuner and between slacker radio and Pandora i probably wont use it.  I'm just curious.

I was certain that lmce simply connects to a share and didn't change any code on the nas.  That makes it all the weirder that it doesn't work.

ccoudsi, if you want to help I would greatly appreciate it and I would be more than happy to help you add more storage to your system if i can.  I've used and built my fair share of storage servers.  I don't think this is the appropriate thread though.  I already have a thread going herehttp://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=10059.0.  I'll post what I'm using and how it's setup tonight or tomorrow.  I'm at a clients site right now and I'll probably be here pretty late.  Thank!!

Thom, have you ever heard the saying "don't make an ass out of yourself by assuming"?  Well it's something like that, and i guess that makes you an ass. I basically dismantled my windows domain to get this working.  My family is bothered because services are currently unavailable.  My plan was to do it the supported way then add my way on top of it, if something breaks I'll know what caused it and hopefully be able to work around or fix it.  unfortunately for me i can't just blow away my nas and use freenas (which by the way is an inferior product to openfiler) because I'll risk losing my data.  Since we're on that topic, does lmce connect to freenas or any of the other "supported" storage devices on a code level? if it does then I'm sorry.  Seeing as how some of the "supported" nas devices are commercially available i doubt that it does.  Plus, and this is the weirdest part, lmce wont even use itself properly.  It wont create the folder structure on it's own internally connected hard drive.  I think i have a bigger problem that goes beyond using "unsupported methods".  My setup is currently configured the way it's described in the wikki and it still doesn't work.  The saddest part is you can probably help me figure this out but you're to busy acting like a baby and making assumptions to do it.

I do try to help out around here.  I'm on the forum making educated guesses where i can and supply information based on my knowledge.  I also have a great write up on how my system is designed because as i mentioned a few weeks ago, I document EVERYTHING!  Hell, I corrected the typo in this thread and confirmed that it works, which is probably wasted since you thread jacked it with BS accusations.  Just like this request, how can you expect me to contribute more when my base system still doesn't work and i have you bitching an moaning about special configurations that doesn't exists instead of helping?  It's obvious you know this system pretty well but with your attitude it's a damn shame!!  You should really get down off your high horse and join the rest of the world or maybe you really do need a hug, to bad you wont get it with that attitude.

My switch is un-managed, that's why i wouldn't think it would be detectable.  It doesn't get an ip and for the sake of argument it's simply a pass through.  I mentioned my computer for a reason, Any one using a Dell or a computer with a camera?  Is LMCE sophisticated enough to detect and use a camera installed on a windows machine out the box?  I couldn't imagine this phantom device causing problems but Andrew is right, it would be nice to figure out what's triggering this.

What devices were the first to connect to the wifi?

On that note before i told it to ignore the device permanently, I'm remembering it only detecting it when my Dell inspiron 1525 was turned on.  It has a built in web camera.  I didn't think it was that because i also have a Dell latitude e4300 with a built in web cam that i use a hell of a lot more.  Not to say that windows didn't, but i never installed the drivers for the web cam on the 1525 but i did install it for the e4300.  There's no link between this detection and the e4300.

I would love to do this but I still having gotten my nas working with this system.  I already don't have much time to play with this thing so the little time i do have is spent trying to get the nas working.  If you help me get my nas working I'll be more than happy to look at this request.  Since I've been in the habit of ripping every cd and dvd I acquire for some time now lmce is almost useless to me with out my nas.

wow, I get this also.  For a micro second i thought there was a hidden camera in my house lol.  wierdbeard and I both have a d-link 8 port switch, any one else who's getting this have a d-link switch on their network?  I wouldn't think this kind of switch would be detectable but stranger things have happened.

yup!! that worked for me.  This is bad ass. I was just thinking last night that it would be usefull to have this information.  I thought my core was running low on ram but i see now that it's doing okay.

Thanks

Did you mean to type

# sudo apt-get install sysstat iftop lm-sensors

I got the following error:

 E: Couldn't find package lm-senors

I changed senors to sensors and it appeared to work.

Does anyone have any thought on this:

Fri, 14 May 2010 12:48:00 -0400 Checking \\00:1a:a0:01:8b:65\lmce
mount error 127 = Key has expired
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)

I don't know how i didn't notice this before but when i run "sudo /usr/pluto/bin/Configure_1837.sh -d <device number>" I get the message above along with other information.  I googled mount error 127 = Key has expired and it appears to be an authentication issue and most fixes came about after adjusting the user name and password.  There are also other fixes that i just don't understand but it doesn't look like they apply.  The share lmce is a public share and for testing there is no security on the nas itself.  From my ubuntu netbook, after clicking on Connect to server, All i need to do is type in the server name and click connect, it would connect to the nas and display all shares.  All public shares are accessible.  This is just my test that the nas and share doesn't require anything special to be used.

In webmin "Password Required" is unchecked, and there is nothing in the username or password fields.  I don't understand how ubuntu can connect without a username and password but lmce gives an authentication error.  This is a wild swing in the dark but is it possible that web admin is displaying something other than what's being used?  I've renamed the shares and deleted and readded the nas from lmce a couple times so i doutb it but is it possible?  Where would I check?

Please guys, this is the final component to my system.  I'm pretty sure i got the hvr 2250 working as i was able to watch channel 3 & 4.  All i need is my nas and for time warner to reconnect the digital cable.  Any help or suggestions with the nas would be greatly appreciated.

Users / Re: Wake on Lan (Wake on Trash)
« on: May 07, 2010, 06:47:29 pm »
klovell - this is not the same as the wake over LAN feature.  Wake over LAN (WOL) is a hardware feature that allows devices to be turned on from a completely powered down state when they receive a "magic packet" targeted at the correct physical (MAC) address.

The feature you're describing is resuming the system from standby based on some event - whether it be a USB device - like a mouse being shaken - or a network device - like a request for a file.  The key difference is that the device is powered up, and can respond to more than just the "magic packet".

I am aware of what wol is and how it works.  I don't know this guy and i don't know if he knows what wol is and how it works.  I do know that microsoft smartened up and windows 7 goes to sleep by default instead of shutting down.  I'm assuming that's how they're posting such awesome boot time numbers... although from a cold boot it's still pretty bad ass (roughly 25 secs on my slowest laptop).  If he didn't know any better he'd think his computer was off when it was really sleeping.  Then it's doing exactly what mine is and it's not a wol packet but lan traffic or usb signals.  He didn't mention what kind of computer he's using, I can show you a computer right now that looks exactly the same when it's sleeping and when it's off.

Even though Dave sounds knowledgeable on the matter in a subsequent post the initial post is pretty vague and IMO, with the information given, I’m not convinced it’s the core.  I’m sorry, in my line of work I’m just conditioned to think people are using words and phrases that does not belong.  I can’t count how many times I’ve said over the phone type this in the address bar, and the response I get is “It took me to Google”.   Or people not knowing the difference between the Internet and an Intranet.  Since I had/have a similar problem and the post is vague I figured I’d though it out there.

I’m sorry for jumping to conclusions Dave and this isn’t an attack Jimbo.  If Dave is certain his computer is off, forget I said anything.
