Users / No webpage sound
« on: January 26, 2011, 01:54:56 am »
Hey all, I do apologize if this has already been addressed, but I couldn't find reference to it.

To start, my problem is with webpage sounds, their are none. What I mean is I hear no sound form webpages. Examples include flash games, other flash movie sites like HULU. I checked my alsamixer settings as a super user as well as root. All the settings are un-muted and all the way up.

Thanks in advance

Hello all, I once had this problem on a non mce system using kubuntu.. I found a DPI option under system settings: appearance, font, force fonts DPI. I set this to 96, and that fixed most of my LMCE problems; however when I open firefox the font in the menu and tital bar is too small. Other fonts are small as well like menus, and selection dialogs..  I edited /usr/pluto/bin/Start_X_Wrapper.sh and added a "-dpi 96" to the "xinit" line with out the "" that is.. Every thing looks much better now. Thanks all

after hours of trying to load recovery, and trying to rebuild. I finally fixed my problem. Loading run level 2, just kde I think it's ro2, any way... I was able to get in and do a sqlCVS on all the options in the web interface. a reboot later and a apt-get update / upgrade every thing was working again..

Hey all I have a question. Does linuxmce come with dumpHd or do I need to install it? I've been successful at decrypting a bluray before on a different Linux setup so I know its possible I'm trying to replicate the same setup in linuxmce. Ill post my progress.

Well their rechargeable, and they are charged. Interesting note tho.. After I rebooted the whole box it worked. IT WORKED   :) don't know what was going on or what I did but after a full reboot the wii mote worked. Now to figure out how to keep the thing form losing it's connection on idle. It's not like it was, just when I put the remote down for the duration of a movie let's say. When I pick it up I have to hit the red button again. I use the red button because I'm using the sensor bar form my wii.

Normally I would just start over, but I've already put too much time in to this. setting up settings and media and the such I don't want to have to start over if their's a fix.

Hey all,
I sure could use some help / ideas on that's going on with my setup. I went through the
Code: [Select]
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Nintendo_WiiMote guide, and well some times it works then some times it won't It's almost as if something is terminating the connection or the link is dying, because it'll stop working in the middle actually trying to use it. If any one is willing to offer a suggestion. I'd be grateful. Oh and one more thing I tried the template thing. Not sure if I set that up correctly as the admin site is some what confusing to me, but not the command line, that I have a modest understanding of.
Thanks

Installation issues / Re: Setting options in installer.
« on: September 06, 2010, 08:23:12 pm »
Ok, <non-sarcasm>awesome responses.. <non-sarcasm/>
So it's post installation configuration I need to be investigating.  Now that I'm looking in the right direction, I'll be looking forward to making a add on and contributing something useful, thinking may-be a GUI like startup-manager(it's a grub2 editor), of course this is me being hopeful. I may not even be able to do it. I'll let you all know what I come up with and you can let me know if it's worth the effort.

more to come.
:-) so exciting..

Installation issues / Setting options in installer.
« on: September 04, 2010, 05:32:08 pm »
Hello, I'd like to say that I'm very happy with LMCE.
I've recently installed the 8.10 successfully, and actually got everything working. :-)
The only question I have now is how to set installer options.
This is what I mean. In 7.10 their's a gui, that asks you if you want to use this system primarily for LMCE, or to start kubuntu, then start lmce manual.
It also asks if you want to install the media player software or to install the core software.
During my install of 8.10 I saw this options being passed in the terminal, and wandered where in all that code are the options are to modify the installer options.
Or could I just use the 7.10 installer.deb on the 8.10 dvd snapshot?

This is the code I'm talking about
Code: [Select]
--- start mce wizard data ---
c_deviceType=2 # 1-Core, 2-Hybrid, 3-DiskedMD
c_netIfaceNo=1
c_netExtName='eth0'
c_netExtIP=''
c_netExtMask=''

c_netExtDNS2=''

c_netIntName='eth1'
c_netIntIPN='192.168.80'
c_startupType=1 #0 - Start Kde / 1 - Start LMCE
c_installType=1
c_installMirror='http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/'
c_netExtKeep='true'
c_installUI=0 # 0 - UI1, 1 - UI2M, 2 - UI2A
c_linuxmceCdFrom=1 # 1 - CD, 2 -ISO
c_linuxmceCdIsoPath=''
c_ubuntuExtraCdFrom=1
c_ubuntuExtraCdPath=''
c_ubuntuLiveCdFrom=1
c_ubuntuLiveCdPath=''

--- end mce wizard data ---
I'm wanting to run kubuntu at start up and then start core services manually, then start the media center.

Thanks all for your contribution. This is going to be epic.

You should look at the contents of:

src/BootScripts and
src/X-Resolution

for a good place to figure out how to add ATI video card support.

I'm not sure what your talking about, where you talking about on the build box, the liveCD, DVD snapshot. or other?

thanks.

Thanks, for the reply, I realize that setting up a builder to get around my ATI problems is kinda redundant. (silly me) <headSMASHwall/>
I've followed that tutorial, and ran in to errors. Maybe I'm doing something out of order?
What order did you do the instructions in?

Has their been any progress in this thread? Why kubuntu install Nvidia drivers, if the video card is ATI?

I'm really anxious to contribute.

Ok, so I've tried all the separate wki tutorials on building from source.
I've only success I've gotten have been error messages.

If some one whom, has successfully built LMC form source, could direct me to the guide they used, and maybe tell me what I'm doing wrong?.
I would be very thankful.

Some quick questions.
when building form source, what kubuntu version am I limited to? for example 7.10, 8.04, 8.10, .... I noticed when using the 2cd, cd based installer I'd get errors when trying to install over 8.04, or use a 8.04 live cd when trying to install on 7.10.

Another question I'd like to ask is, can some one submit a how to, on how the dvd snap shot that's available was made?

The biggest reason I'm trying to build from source is because I have a ATI HD4870.

Thanks in advanced.

Make sure your default shell (/bin/sh) is bash and not dash
It should be by default. I went in and edited one of the files, and commented out the "else part" and added the line to the statement so it would run the command any way. It work after that. but error-ed out some where else. I would give more info, but I've moved on form that to using the snap shot image. I have installation errors there as well.

Installation issues / Help with install
« on: July 29, 2010, 09:26:52 pm »
Maybe I'm missing some thing simple, but I've been trying to build LMCE form source. For what feels like days.
Some back data.

I'm following this guide http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Building_LinuxMCE_0810. I have a fresh install of 8.10. So naturaly I start with the getting started section under building from source, I get to the Installing the build scripts section and run the command.
Code: [Select]
sh ./install.sh
well, I get the following output.
Code: [Select]
Installing Default Configs For intrepid-i386
Creating symlink in /usr/local/lmce-build
./install.sh: 36: [[: not found

When I go looking for the file. I don't find one.
