Users / Re: Latest apt-get upgrade shows 530 files??
« on: December 05, 2011, 02:50:18 am »
I did a apt-get update and got the same number of updates, I updated (should have known better then to have messed with a working system). My problem is now I get no video form .avi files, just sound. Every other file mostly .mkv files and .dvd((.iso)thankfuly) work.

I did some digging and found a reference to lucid in my apt sources list. I haven't noticed any dhcp errors; however I don't use lmce as a router.

Where did this entry for lucid come from and how/when did it get into my apt source list. I didn't put it their. I'm certain no one else could have put it their.

In a production environment you check for this stuff before you update. Seeing as I'm the only one with access to the system, I didn't see a reason to check for this kinda of silly error. I hope this bug(unless theirs evidence of other) should be squashed.

If I backup my msql user data base, and set up a new lmce box with the same user information(and restore the backed up user table) will lmce be able to use "lmce file structure" on the new hard drive with out me having to reformat start over??

not a double post, their has been no answer to my question.
If the card has both a digital tuner and an analog tuner. Would the digital tuner work and the analog not or would both not work?

Small question. I know their's work being done on 10.04 a LTS I'm glad the next build is being based on a LTS.

My only question / suggestion would be.

Instead of starting a new project on 10.04 which is supported through until April 2013 for the desktop version, and until April 2015 for the server version. Would it be better to just start on 12.04 with support from 26 April 2012 to April 2017? I know 12.04 hasn't made alpha yet (dec1 I think) This way we start off fresh with a version that will have through support form main stream through the development process of LMCE. Going this route we won't have to worry about them dropping support for it before the final build like they did with 8.10.

I see you have an additional submitting about a similar problem.. http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php/topic,12136.0.html
When I changed my video card a while back I reran the setup wizard. You may not get any video at first press 1,2,3,4 on the keyboard see setup wizard in the wiki on how to manually set the out port on your card. I had to set mine to DVI even tho it was clearly connected to HDMI port.
I hope this helps.

Assuming you have a separate audio connection to your tv. I would check your settings on your tv. Some tv's disable sound input on other inputs if it sources a video over hdmi as it's expecting the audio to come over the same port. I hope this helps.

Is your dvi to hdmi converter a single cable, a small block that is dvi on one end, hdmi on the other, or a receiver / auto box?
If it's the first, these cables don't support sound over hdmi. If it's the 2 I'd suggest checking your connections, if it's the 3rd I would try it straight to the tv skip the receiver / auto box to make sure something in it didn't go bad or got changed on you during a party.

Users / Re: How the #@$# do I customize asound.conf?
« on: November 13, 2011, 03:54:08 pm »
What I had to do was connect my video card to my SPDIF sound connector on my Mother board. set the mother board up for spdif pass-through or something like that(i'm not in front of my system.) then during the setup wizard I had to full the system to think it was passing video through DVI, after I could see what I was doing I changed it to HDMI. Then during the sound setup I changed the sound settings to SPDIF optical or SPDIF Coaxial (not in front of system). Sound and Video over HDMI worked after that.
I hope this helps you.

A digital card you say. Would the card state this in it's details? Also if the card has both a digital tuner and an analog tuner. would the digital tuner work and the analog not or would both not work?

That's probably correct. The question I have is, which of the cards I posted would work best for me.
I'm looking at the cards here on this site. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380047%201685342847&name=Tuner%20Card&cm_sp=tvtunersubcatstore-_-flashstorefront-_-tvtunercard more specifically http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116037 I'm hoping this will be the best fit for use in the USA..

I would be getting my signal from charter. More closely Clear over the Air. I have cable internet and get some channels by splitting the signal and connecting my HD tv to the same line. I don't have "tv" or "cable tv" service, but I'm able to get a few Clear over the air channels and what ever channels a few miles of coper cable pickes up as an over sized Athena.  8)

Thanks I'll keep that as an option. I was really hoping to do this with a TV tuner card.

I've been researching tv capture cards. From what I understand that only clear non encrypted (Is it possible to record encrypted cable channels?) channels can be displayed. I'm hoping some one who more experience with this can direct me in the right direction.

I also hear that I can install more than one, having the availability to combine their abilities to watch different channels effectively increasing the number of channels one can use at a time. Is this correct?

If some one has had great success with a different card. Could you let me know what it was?

Thank you.

I changed the Hardware acceleration to vdpau i also changed the Deinterlace Quality to vdpau. The video quality looks better. Only time will tell if this is fixed.
