Users / Best Automation type to implement
« on: March 25, 2010, 12:32:53 pm »
Ok so I have been making good progress with my new install (many thanks to everyone who responded to my questions)

I am now turning to the Automation side and looking at which type (x10, Insteon, etc) to implement!!
I currently have a CM15A controller and one appliance module I got off a friend for testing and these work great.

However he now wants them back so im looking at buying my own gear.
I have read a few users comments and alot seem to prefer Insteon over X10!

I can program PLC's with ladder logic so the automation side shouldnt be a problem to me but what I wanted to know
was which system has the most capabilities in the long run, regardless of how complex it is to implement?

Thanks again  ;D

Ok so forgive me for being a dumbass but I over looked one major aspect in my setup....
After looking at the architecture posted above I noticed that I do not have a Switch connected to my Core...
All I have is a router with built in wireless connected to my core via CAT5!!

This means I have to buy a second ethernet card dont it!?
Any ideas on the best one to get??

Thanks for pointing out my stupid error!!

Quote from wiki page "connect the I-Touch to the Linuc-MCE Wi-Fi access point in DHCP mode"

How is this done? I have setup the generic web orbiter and I can get to the login page on the core however
using the same url I dont get anything on my ipod touch!! Is this due to not connecting in DHCP mode as stated above
as I have reloaded the router and this is the only thing I can think of!!

P.S. I read some other topics about the possibility of fully functional ipod orbiter, any news on it?

Just ordered a splitter, seems the easiest way to deal with dual monitors not being supported!!

Thanks for all the suggestions

Regarding subtitles:
1) are they separate files or embeeded?
2) which kind of video files? (.mkv, .avi, .mpeg)

Embedded and the file type is .mkv (renamed as .m2ts)

Forgive me if this has already been asked but I couldnt find anything when searching!

I have a projector hooked up to my hybrid on the VGA port.
LMCE is set to display on the DVI port and works fine.

However When I wan to watch movies I want to use my projector!
Should I change my nvidia settings to not use twinview and have both displays the same!!

P.S. How the hell do I turn off subtitles!!

Thanks again for the excellent help

Thanks ill give it a go.

In the admin page you can set the file type as "LinuxMCE Video File" or "BlueRay" for example.
And similarly the file format can be set to "HD 720" or "mp3" fo examples.

I was just wondering if these settings have a bearing on how LMCE handles the files!?

Ok so I finally solved this issue....

It was the wall socket the controller was connected to!!
All I did was try a different set of sockets and it worked straight away...
Suggest anyone having issues like this try another socket first before you drive yourself mad!

I guess this is down to how your house is wired! the X10 might not work on sockets if they are a spur set!

is that just done by simply renaming the file extension?
Also what difference does setting the file type and file format in the admin page do?

Installation issues / Re: SHutdown not an option in KDE
« on: March 22, 2010, 01:06:50 pm »
The options are there but selecting any of them will always result in a logout as supposed to a reboot, shutdown, etc!!
its as if they all have the same functionality (logout). Strange thing is they worked as they should before LMCE install!!

Installation issues / SHutdown not an option in KDE
« on: March 22, 2010, 11:21:19 am »
I recently installed a snapshot of 810 and all seemed fine until I installed LMCE.
Now when I go to Kubuntu and try to shutdown the only option I get is logout!!
Is there a fix for this?
