What mythtv version are you using?  The one that comes standard in 1004, our did you modify myth other than you instructions above?

Standard. I learned that it's best to stick with what the LMCE Gods provide us.

FYI: I am only using this for clear QAM. I do not subscribe to content that would need a cable card but I did get this unit over others just in case they started encrypting "copy-freely" channels.

I made a good deal of progress today. I'm posting in case anyone else has trouble like I did.

Here were the steps:
Code:
wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/scte65scan/scte65scan/0.2.1/scte65scan-0.2.1.tgz
tar xzf scte65scan-0.2.1.tgz
cd scte65scan-0.2.1
wget http://download.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/libhdhomerun_20130117.tgz
tar xzf libhdhomerun_20130117.tgz

Edit Makefile.hdhr to add near the top:
Code:
LIBOBJS += $(HDHR_DIR)/hdhomerun_sock_posix.o $(HDHR_DIR)/hdhomerun_os_posix.o
Added -lrt to the line:
Code:
LDFLAGS += -lpthread -lrt
For some reason nano is not on my system so I used
Code:
joe Makefile.hdhr
make -f Makefile.hdhr
./scte65scan -H FFFFFFFF -p -f3 -V 3027 us-Cable-Standard-center-frequencies-QAM256 > vct.sql
Be sure to change 3027 to whatever your VCT-ID is
Code:
sudo mysql mythconverg < vct.sql

I'm almost three. I might have to tweek my ./scte65scan line because I have a few unknown channels and I'm missing all of my HD locals (ex I have channel 3 but not 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3) Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I feel that I'm so close to getting this working. Can someone help me with the steps needed for using scte65scan to populate channels in MythTV? I tried following the instructions on the wiki but I get "/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0: No such file or directory" when trying to write the vct.sql file. I guess I'm still too much of a newb to assume that I did all of the steps correctly.

I was able to reset each Z-wave device on my network. I learned that even if you no longer have the master controller assigned to a device, you can reset a device with any other master controller that has at least one device in it's network. To reset the device just follow that controllers instructions for removing a device from the network.

I did have one device that failed with the inclusion remote on my first attempt. (minimote showed a red led) I made a second attempt to include the device using the minimote which showed as successful. After doing a quick reload I noticed that the device was added twice to the devices list. Is this a bug that I should report?

5  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Z-Wave - Aeon, HA07 and SUC/SIS on: January 07, 2013, 11:52:58 pm
you should reset every device with a controller before including it again.

Thank you for the response. I don't see anything in the instructions on how to reset a device. I can reset a controller, the controller's network and the controller's channels...but nothing on resetting a device. Would removing the device using a controller reset the device even if the device was never on that controller's network? Is the reason why I'm resetting each device is because they may be configured with another home ID? (I'm trying to learn how Z-wave actually works)

After I reset every device, I'm guessing (actually sure if it's for the above reason) that I need to go back and add them all again. Does each device have it's own unique identifier (Node ID is network specific, right?) such as a MAC address? If so, can i locate that information in the Web Admin? Keeping a record of those IDs along with their current names would make re-adding everything a bit easier.

Does the "Backup Child Devices" option for the Z-Wave devices do exactly what it implies and give me a backup file to restore from in case I screw something up again?

Thank you!

6  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Z-Wave - Aeon z-Stick, Aeon Minimote and SUC/SIS on: January 07, 2013, 12:45:25 am
I received my Minimote from LMCEcompatible.com. I went through and followed the instructions on how to set the minimote up as an inclusion remote. It worked well and I was able to get most of my z-wave devices up an running with very little pain. Unfortunately the minimote was deleted from the list of devices under z-wave. I think it happened when I unintentionally entered the setup wizard. It saw my devices and asked me if I wanted to set them up. Since they were already setup and working I chose to cancel but the name of my z-stick was changed and my minimote was removed. Can I restore my minimote? All of my z-wave devices are still associated with the minimote (all on and all off works) and it seems to still be working as an inclusion remote.

For some reason, a few of my z-wave devices are not able to successfully get included on the network. I believe one of these devices might be defective, but the other two were in good working condition in my last network. Is it possible they are still associated with another network and unable to be added to the new network? I also noticed that LMCE would add a Z-wave device even if the minimote responded that the inclusion was not successful. It would actually add multiple instances of the device in the device tree for each unsuccessful inclusion attempt with the mote. How should I be removing these non-functioning z-wave devices? Does deleting them in web admin remove them from the network? How about excluding them with the inclusion controller (but I guess that would only work if inclusion was successful)?

The good news is that the routing for my Z-ware network seems to be much better than before. My devices (when properly included) seem to be responding 100% of the time.
7  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: LMCE - I want to do it correctly this time - Z-Wave and MythTV on: January 01, 2013, 04:09:57 am
I have a HVR-2250 and it is kind of a pain to get working. I developed a script to get it working as I kept forgetting. The only thing is that I don't think that Steve Toth is supporting the driver anymore. I have not been able to find it after he changed his website.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Since I posted my initial message I purchased the AEON remote from lmcecompatible.com (Thank you Tom for being so very quick to respond and ship). I was going to stop there for the moment until I saw the Silicon Dust HDHR3 go on sale at Amazon for $129. I now have that on the way. Hopefully those two devices will solve my Z-Wave and MythTV issues. I decided to get the Prime because it said that any "copy-freely" channels will still work with LMCE. That's currently the only type of content I record so I hope/expect I'll be fine if/when my cable provider encrypts those channels.
8  LinuxMCE / Users / LMCE - I want to do it correctly this time - Z-Wave and MythTV on: December 31, 2012, 12:17:32 am
I've been "using" LMCE for a bit over two years now, but I have yet to get it running 100% the way that I want it to. I blame myself for not buying the right hardware and not putting in enough time to get it running. I'm now to the point where I can't stand it any longer and I want to get it running as it should even if it means buying new hardware. Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I want to do it correctly this time.

My top priorities in order are:
  • Z-Wave automation (working flawlessly)
  • MythTV recording of clear QAM channels
  • Streaming music (preferably Pandora but I'm willing to switch)
  • Android phones and tablets as orbiters

I already own:
Core/hybrid
In 2010 I bought a barebones core hybrid from LMCEcompatible.com. I don't know what's in it but it was a lower cost option when I bought it. I'm fine swapping out CPU and motherboard for something faster, but I don't expect to use it often as a MD.

Z-Wave
  • ~30 Intermatic Z-wave outlets, switches and modules. (Not willing to replace)
  • AEON II Stick
  • Intermatic HA07 (x3) and HA09 (Would like to use but can part with)

Tuners
  • Happauge HVR-2250
  • Happauge WinTV-HVR-950Q (USB)

The house is wired with Cat-6 which terminates in my basement where I keep the core and the routers. There are two zones of in-wall speakers which are also terminated in my basement. The in-wall speakers are only used for music and are powers by an old receiver which I which I manually turn off and on.

After a lot of trial and error, I had the Z-wave devices working pretty much flawlessly. That was until I decided to wipe my core and try to get MythTV working. Now, I'm having what I believe to be routing issues. Since SIS is recommended over using the built-in inclusion button on my AEON stick, I'm ready to buy a minimote even though I don't really need it for anything other than using it for SIS.  Is it silly to spend the money on it?

I never got MythTV to work with LMCE. I'm not new to MythTV and I've been using it on a Mythbuntu server on a separate network for almost four years now. I'm guessing part of my problem is compatibility issues with the HVR-2250 which does not get automatically recognized by LMCE. I'm fine buying a HDHomeRun duel tuner to replace the 2250 if that's the way to go. Even though my Comcast provider is not currently encrypting basic cable, I know that the cable companies in the US are now allowed to encrypt even broadcast channels. Should I consider getting a cable card ready tuner or will that never with with linux? When they do encrypt, will I be able to

Media Directors
I currently only have the core/hybrid. Once I get that running I would like to purchase one or two small footprint barebones PCs to use to use as MDs. I was thinking of a Zotac but I'm open to anything that will work well and will not have overheating issues in a 78 degree room.

Thank you in advance for your help,
B34N
9  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Z-Wave - Aeon, HA07 and SUC/SIS on: December 17, 2012, 02:59:25 pm
you should not add the devices with the aeon stick button but with an inclusion controller. I'm not sure if the HA07/09 can do this but all recently made portable controllers support inclusion controller mode. Use the "Add node" in the web admin to add the controller. You need to consult your controllers manual to identify the key press/sequence needed on the HA07/09 to get it included as inclusion controller. Then add your devices with the HA07/09.

Thank you for the response. The instructions for the HA07/09 are pretty poor. I can set it up as a slave, copy over the network and copy over the scenes. I'm guessing that this is not the same as being an inclusions remote and that these units cannot support SUC/SIS.

If I abandon the SUC/SIS route, is there any reason why I shouldn't be using the AEON to add devices or is your response above about not using the AEON to include devices only if I want to move forward with SUC/SIS?

Since I already have the HA7s and HA09, is there any way I can assign scenarios, or even groups to a button on the remote?
10  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Z-Wave - Aeon, HA07 and SUC/SIS on: December 17, 2012, 01:18:21 am
As I said in my original post, I'm trying to get some old Intermatic remotes to work under SUC/SIS. I'm not really sure if my goal is correct.

Here's the situation:
1 AEON II stick (currently running as Master)
3 HA07 controllers
1 HA09 controller
~30 z-Wave switches

I have used LMCE and Z-Wave with "respond to events" (timed and sunset)to control my Z-Wave devices for simple things like turn on Christmas lights at a certain time and turn on Outside landscaping lights at sunset. What I want to do is also use the Intermatic remotes to send the same commands if we want to turn off or on lights before they are scheduled. Sure, I can set the remotes to slaves and then replicate the networks and manually program in the channel setting for each remote. However, with ~30 devices and four remotes programming in the channel settings is daunting considering it will need to be repeated for each of the Intermatic remotes. Is there a way that I can setup channel settings for each of the buttons and then send those out to the slave controllers through LMCE and the master AEON...maybe set a scenario to a button?

How can I troubleshoot my Z-Wave network? I went through with the AEON stick and started adding devices. Most went perfectly but a few a giving me problems. I have a couple of devices that don't respond to the commands that I sent them to. Is this because they are associated with the AEON stick/LMCE incorrectly? Considering the number of devices and the size of my house, i can't see that it's a distance problem. If I want to try again, what the best way to remove a device from the network and add again? If I remove teh device through the admin screen is that the same as removing it from the stick?
11  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Z-Wave - Aeon, HA07 and SUC/SIS on: December 16, 2012, 09:27:46 pm
I've been reading the SUC/SIC instructions at http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ZWave#SUC.2FSIS_Mode_.28recommended.29 but I'm having some difficulty.

I have a AEON stick and a number of HA07 controllers. I had no difficulty resetting all of the devices. The AEON stick added with no problems and I was left with devices "ZWave Embedded Climate Interfa", "ZWave Embedded Security Interf" and "ZWave Controller" under Zwave. The next step is where I'm a bit unsure what to do. I chose the "Add Node" send command from Zwave (Not from ZWave Controller, because there was no option there). It's at this point I'm not sure that I need to do. Which button do I hit on the HA07? The above referenced instructions do not indicate. I tried a few, but got nothing in return.

In an attempt to figure this out on my own, I was able to add the HA07 to the network by making it a slave. The problem is that when the HA07 is a slave I can't get it into include mode.

Might I be trying to do something for the wrong reason? I was just hoping to simplify adding back my 30 Z-Wave devices to the network? What I really want to do is setup channels on my HA07s to run LMCE scenarios. Can this be done?

Any help would be appreciated.

I would recommend using the SIS mode procedure outlined on the Wiki; http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ZWave#SUC.2FSIS_Mode_.28recommended.29

This procedure works - but you do need to follow the steps carefully. Also for reference you can look at the Dianemo S wiki section on monitoring your ZWave device inclusion process here by tail'ing your ZWave device; http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Dianemo_S#ZWave_Devices

I'm refreshing my installation and I'm glad that I came across this thread. thank you for referencing the SIS mode procedure. It will be nicer include devices with one of my HA07s rather than have to run around with the AEON stick.

What I'm not understanding from the instructions is how I will be able to identify in the tree which z-wave device is which once they are added to the Z-wave network. I have ~30 devices so it's a PITA running around the house trying to determine which device is being turned off and on. Will I need to go to the tree and identify each device as they are being added?

I have 4 of these. One on Living Room Table, One on headboard in Master Bedroom, One in my oldest daughter's room om her night stand, and one by the door as you come in to the house.
They are all "Secondary" controllers to the HA09 Handy Remote and the 5th "Secondary" controller is my Core.

They have 12 Buttons, ( two banks of six )and can be used as individual lights, individual scenes, or mix and match.

Are you saying that there is a way to copy a scene to a button on my HA07 controllers? That would be many times easier than having to program each setting on the controller itself. I too have many controllers which would be great to have all around the house but I have only been using one secondary because it's such a pain to program each controller.

Same problem on gf 8200.
Anybody was able to solve it?

I was not able to solve it. My inclination is that the problem is with the 8200 video card, but I don't have any proof.

I installed 10.04. It still doesn't recognize my HVR but I hope to find some time this weekend to manually install the HVR and then try again. I'll keep you updated if the latest version of LMCE solves the problem.
14  LinuxMCE / Users / 10.04 or 8.10 on: October 13, 2011, 01:51:51 am
I.'ve been having some troubles with an 8.10 setup. All my SWMBO wants/needs is a system that works with Z-wave (lights), MythTV and Pandora. Pandora stopped withing with 8.10 because it needs a newer browser. MythTV has been giving me problems and I think it's due to a video or sound card driver. (but can't confirm) Should I consider 10.04 which may solve my Pandora problem or should I stay with 8.10 since my SWMBO expects something that works well? If I stick with 8.10 I'm thinking of doing a fresh install (once again). Should I just grab LinuxMCE-8.10-latest-snapshot-i386.iso or is there a better option?

Thank you!

oh boy. um.. you'll need to grab the computing entries from a running system.

Yup, I'm screwed. If only there was someone on these forums who would share those entries and locations to put them with me.
