Users / Share Drive - Too many entries!
« on: July 22, 2014, 05:17:29 am »
I have a drive that is shared that LMCE is picking up. For some reason it is adding the same videos multiple times. Also, is there a way that I can "hide" a directory from LMCE. I have since moved that directory from the shared portion of the drive but the files are still showing up even though there is no content available behind them. How do I remove old content from the DB?

I am currently running a Usenetserver with SABnzb, CouchPotato, Sick Beard and Plex Media Server on a really old PC and I'm ready to move it to either my core or setup a FreeNAS machine. LMCE is picking up the shared machine and adding everything to my video list...even the files that I don't want added. Is the a "better" way to get this done?

Users / VOIP Providers
« on: July 11, 2014, 02:39:52 am »
I'm ready to dump Verizon and port my landline number over to a VOIP provider. My current thought is to connect my POTS phones to my ObiHai 202 and also use LMCE. I use my ObiHai with POTS lines and my Google Voice number.

#1 Does anyone have a recommendation on a provider? We are US based (east coast). We need E911 service and we do not make many phone calls. Reliability is more important than cost and considering what we are paying for Verizon, I can't see cost being an issue.

#2 Is there a way to use my POTS phones with LMCE through the ObiHai or some other option. It seems that I would be missing out on the features of Asterisk if I'm using the ObiHai. It's not like I need access to much of Asterisk's options, but it would be nice to have the options.

Users / NAS - FreeNAS, LMCE or something else?
« on: July 11, 2014, 02:11:21 am »
I'm looking for a reliable and easy way to store my data so that I can access it from any of the devices in my home while automatically backing up data. I'm in the process of learning about FreeNAS and I like what I see but I'm having a hard time determining if it's a good fit for me.

In order of priority, this is what I'm looking to do:
Critical Data Storage – I currently have ~30GB of data that I would consider critical and irreplaceable. Normally new content is added rather than changed. I currently use a combination of Dropbox and google drive to protect that data but I would prefer something a bit more seamless.

Replaceable Data Storage – The bulk of my content is recorded TV shows or movies for LMCE. That content is generally removed after consumption. It is not irreplaceable but would be a PITA if lost.

Usenet Download Server – I've recently started using sabnzbd, couchpotato and sickbeard on an old P4. I can see myself digging more into them and expanding into more related applications which are available as FreeNAS plugins. I suspect that if I didn't do FreeNAS that I'd be able to run these applications on my LMCE core. (right?)

I like the RAIDZ2 reliability in FreeNAS but considering my limited needs, it seems like it will be overkill...plus the cost of a FreeNAS box with four matching HDs is significant.

What options should I be looking into?

Users / Metadata files - Automatically Add Videos
« on: June 23, 2014, 03:49:02 am »
I've been using Sick Beard to grab TV content and it has the ability to create Metadata files in formats that work with Mede8er, MediaBrowser, Sony PS3, Tivo, WDTV, XBMC and XBMC 12+. My understanding is that LMCE using .id3 files. Will LMCE work with any of the other metadata formats I listed? If so, can I have it automatically add new files to the video database?

Users / MDs "crashing"
« on: June 09, 2014, 02:50:33 pm »
My MDs (hybrid core and netboot NUC) have both locked up on me while either playing a movie or Pandora. While the MD portion of the core locked, the rest seemed to keep operating. I was able to see what looked like a Kubuntu error on the core that said something lie "temporary user full". I haven't changed anything and it has been about a month since I updated.

Any thoughts? How do I check the logs to see what the message was?

Thank you,

Users / SabNZBD - Couch Potato - SickBeard
« on: May 06, 2014, 03:43:23 am »
I've been playing around with SabNZBD, Couch Potato and SickBeard. I like what I can do with them. Has there been any integration into LMCE? I was thinking that one could benefit from a better naming convention so that the "recordings" show up a little nicer in the video menu.

Users / MythTV in 12.04
« on: February 16, 2014, 09:29:46 pm »
MythTV runs nicely on the core but the backend server cannot be found by the frontend on my MD. I also noted that the backend server cannot be found by the MythTV frontend on my android device. I was wondering if anyone else is there anyone using MythTV in 12.04 and able to connect to the backend from a device other than the core.

Users / MythTV - Thumbnails not appearing
« on: February 09, 2014, 08:40:52 pm »
I'm running 12.04. Around the same time I had

My more recently recorded MythTV videos are no longer having thumbnails attached to them automatically in the video browser. If I go through MythTV I see the thumbnails and the .png files are in the PVR directory with the recordings. I suspect that it may have to do with a problem that I had when my media drive was added twice since it seems to have coincided with the start of the thumbnails not appearing. Any thoughts?

Users / Pandora - Through SqueezeSlave or other method?
« on: January 21, 2014, 03:07:21 am »
Has anyone been able to get Pandora running on LMCE through anything other than a web browser? I had hoped that after installing SqueezeSlave that I'd be able to access Pandora through that....but either I don't know how or it can't currently be done. I'm on 12.04

Are there any other commercial free pandora like services that I can get working with LMCE and ideally a qOrbiter?

Thank you,

Users / {Solved] Adding a HD for all media storage
« on: January 17, 2014, 01:38:33 pm »
I installed LMCE 12.04 on a spare 80GB drive. Now it seems that 12.04 is working well enough for me to use it as my main core. My thought is to keep LMCE on the 80GB and use my 1.5TB hard drive from my old 10.04 install as a drive exclusively for media. Is this a good idea or should I just use the 1.5TB for everything?

If it's a good idea, are the wiki instructions accurate for 12.04 http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Add_an_additional_hard_drive

Once I have the HD working, how do I make the new drive the place where all MythTV recordings and other media go to as default? How do I safely move the current videos from the 80GB to the 1.5TB?

Thank you,

Users / Audio - Multiple simultaneos outputs
« on: January 16, 2014, 02:34:50 am »
My 12.04 install is currently outputting audio through HDMI. I would like to also have it output through the standard analog 3.5mm stereo plug simultaneously. Is that possible and how?

My Core hybrid is in my basement and I recently hooked up to an old but functioning LCD TV though HDMI. In the basement I also have an old receiver that I use to play audio to my in wall speakers throughout my house. Before I changed over to HDMI, I simply have video through DVI and played audio thought the analog 3.5mm output. Now that I have HDMI working I would like to use the TV but want to also fill the house with music through the 3.5mm output. Thoughts?

Installation issues / PXE boot MD
« on: January 13, 2014, 02:52:18 am »
I have an old laptop or two that I would like to try out at least temporarily as an MD. I looked all over the Wiki and am not sure that http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Automatic_diskless_boot_of_media_directors is relevant for a 12.04 install. If not, is there a better resource? I'm just looking for instructions on trying an old laptop out as an MD.

Users / MD recommendations
« on: January 13, 2014, 02:49:00 am »
I'm looking for a recommendation for a MD. It will be mainly used for playing back through HDMI HD recorded content. I want something small, quiet and not prone to overheating. It'll be used for nothing other than an network bootable MD. The cheaper the better. Thoughts?

Users / [Solved] MythTV - mythfilldatabase
« on: January 13, 2014, 01:49:20 am »
I realized that the mythfilldatabase that runs upon exiting Myth Setup is not grabbing any content that starts after midnight of that day. Is there something in the call that specifies only grab until midnight? Also, isn't there anything that runs on a regular (nightly) basis that will update the program guide? IMHO it would ideally grab the next two weeks of listings just like in my standard MythTV setup. Am I missing something that I need to configure?

I did:
sudo su - mythtv
$ mythfilldatabase
and it ran fine but didn't add anything to the program guide.

Users / [Solved] MythTV .25 in 12.04
« on: January 07, 2014, 01:33:59 pm »
Thank you Tschak for putting MythTV .25 in the latest 12.04 snapshots. I can now use my Silicondust HDHomeRun Prime with Cablecard with LMCE. This was really important to me as my local Comcast Cable company will be encrypting the limited basic channels in two weeks. They are supposedly keeping the "copy freely" tag on those local broadcast channels.

I went into MythTV setup and added my HDHomeRun Prime following the  instructions on the MythTV Wiki http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Silicondust_HDHomeRun_Prime#Illustrated_Guide_.28Master.2F.25.29
Everything seemed to work. My channel guide populated after exiting and I was able to access even my encrypted local HDs. I setup MythTV to record a few shows that night and then left everything as is and worked on a ZWave issue I was having.

I went back this morning and the shows didn't record. I went into MythTV to check that the recording rules were there and I noticed that my guide data wasn't there.

I went back into MythTV setup and checked the settings. Everything seem find so I just exited setup and mythfilldatabase ran. Upon going back into Myth my guide data was there.

My questions are:
  • Did I cause a potential problem by adding a new video source instead of using the LMCE default?
  • What is the proper way to schedule MythTV recordings in LMCE? I was going into MythTV and then scheduling there.
  • Which LMCE MythTV Wiki guide is the correct one for 12.04?

Thank you,
B34N
