Installation issues / Only eth0 works
« on: August 14, 2010, 06:20:41 pm »
When I was installing LinuxMCE and was booted into Kubuntu (before I ran the install script) I could connect with both eth0 and eth1 (they're identical and both on the motherboard)
Now that I have linuxMCE installed I can get the core to either connect to the internet with eth0 but then it doesn;t give out IP addresses or if I switch the interfaces in web admin it will give out IPs and not connect to the external network. I've tryed reinstalling and have the same problem if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

Installation issues / Fresh install boots into tty1?
« on: August 09, 2010, 11:16:47 pm »
I've decided to upgrade more core as my old one had a fairly slow processor and only two PCI slots I've put together a system with an MSI 790FX-GD70 mainboard and a GeForce 8400 GS 512MB GPU (https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=11077474); It also has one of the new AMD Phenom II 6 core CPU's. Unfortunately when I try to install 0810 from the latest snapshot it boots and the part where I would normally go through the generic Kubuntu install (NOT the part where the AV wizard is supposed to come up) is just a black screen however strangely enough it is receiving signal (the monitor isn't going to sleep)) So I tried to install just kubuntu 8.10 and was able to go through the internet installation just fine until I rebooted and saw instead of it going into the AV wizard it hangs and drops me into a console (tty1)

At this point I'm totally stumped and would appreciate any help I can get.

Installation issues / IVTV on 0810
« on: June 15, 2010, 11:43:12 pm »
Currently I'm getting 100 channels from my cable company (because I refused to upgrade to digital, their just sending that many analog channels over my internet line free.) I realize this is strange but it means that I definitely need to get an analog card working. I just though I'd get that out of the way because when I asked on irc I was just told that analog wasn't worth it =)

So now I have a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500 which LinuxMCE recognizes and I have setup with the Setup assistant. The problem is that IVTV never installed and while MythTV Setup found the card and downloaded channels from SchedulesDirect it always gives an "all inputs are being used, but their is no video" error or crashes.

I would really like to figure this out so thanks to whomever can help!

Feature requests & roadmap / Pandora
« on: June 15, 2010, 12:58:56 am »
I was thinking about using Pithos (http://www.ubunter.com/apps/blog/show/3097631-pithos-a-pandora-player-for-gnome) as a pandora player we could then just right a DCE wrapper for the program much like hulu's and since the application is completely controllable through the terminal we could make an dedicated orbiter page (as opposed to just a control for the keyboard and mouse)

Feature requests & roadmap / Hide cursor button on hulu remote
« on: June 13, 2010, 09:13:09 am »
I have a media director that I have stored centrally and then use HDMI over cat5 to send to my tv and a Webdt to control. The only problem with this is that when I watch hulu theres no way to move the cursor away from the video as i don't have a mouse in the room. I would love to see a hide mouse button on this page of the orbiter or even a button to move the mouse to the very bottom left where it's not visible.

Users / New Startup Entry?
« on: April 25, 2010, 09:48:23 pm »
I've written a script to run uTorrent through wine on my system:

#!/bin/bash
#
#

wine /mnt/device/61/uTorrent/utorrent-startup

Granted it's pretty simple; but when I ssh with x11 enabled (ssh -X) and log in as linuxmce it works perfectly.
So I wanted it to start up without KDE (unlike in the linuxMCE Bittorrent Guide) so I went in to
/usr/pluto/bin/startup-script.sh and added StartService "uTorrent" "/usr/pluto/bin/uTorrent.sh"
But it never runs (I Know because I can't access the webUI that uTorrent hosts when I run it through ssh)
Am I doing anything wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Feature requests & roadmap / A Shared Wii?
« on: January 31, 2010, 12:58:09 am »
Just a thought; but on that note I noticed when installing the WiiMote for LinuxMCE that the only way the WiiMote actually communicates with the Wii is by Bluetooth. So if we had a capture card on the core hooked up to the Wii, couldn't we have a bluetooth receiver on the Media Director and then have the core with another bluetooth dongle sending the commands to the Wii, couldn't we use the Wii on any MD? Is this possible or would delay be too bad?

Installation issues / MD boot goes straight to bash on boot
« on: January 25, 2010, 05:12:56 am »
So I had a fully functional MD working great. Then I decided to install a wiimote. I followed these steps http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Nintendo_WiiMote and then did the section under trouble shooting:

Q: Using a sensor bar (ir_ptr), and the cursor is limited to the bottom left corner of the screen
A: Make the following changes to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file on the Media Director and then restarting the MD:
I used vi to do that step and saved with :x!

I restarted the media director and was greeted after waiting for a while with "moon40 Login" I waited for half an hour and it didn't go away so I put in the usr name and pass from the ssh session I used to install the wiimote.

I was then dumped into bash.

How can I fix this?

Thanks for Anyhelp!

Installation issues / MD doesn't boot in 0810
« on: January 20, 2010, 01:02:49 am »
So I'm running newest build 0810 on my core. When I try to boot my media director (same NIC as my core btw) the MD connects, says it's given IP address and MAC address and goes through a couple things until it stops on "configuration file not found" I've tried manually adding a MD on the core, giving it the NICs MAC address and it connects with the same ip address (192.168.80.130) but it always hangs. I've tried different ethernet cables and media directors but it always does the same thing! What should I do?

Feature requests & roadmap / Airport Express as Audio Zone?
« on: January 18, 2010, 09:45:59 pm »
So I've been thinking...
You can get an old wireless g airport express with a USB port and audio output. (Also it has 100 mbps ethernet so you could do that as well) for $40 on ebay
So if we buy say 8 of them thats $320 (the price of 1 Squeezebox)
Then we buy 8 cheap 100 watt car amplifiers on ebay for $80 each on ebay. ($640)
Then you plug each of them into a pair of speakers in each room and boom whole house audio!

There is already a linux project to stream live audio to Airport express. (http://nanocrew.net/software/justeport/)

It would only be a matter of getting linuxmce to recognize them as media directors.

Users / Make media private?
« on: January 16, 2010, 10:18:35 pm »
I have a lot of media (mp3's) that no one else in the house likes but I want to be able to play. Is there away to add media just to my account?
