Users / New VOIP provider info to share
« on: July 20, 2012, 07:30:36 pm »
Well not exactly new,  apparently PhonePower bought Broadvoice (since 8.10 anyways) and is doing some pretty alluring packages depending on your call needs.  I went with the unlimited in-state + local 911 and will just use my cell provider for out of state calls.  If you are interested in checking out VOIP and give this company a call make sure to explain you intend to activate and get access to your SIP credentials.  This will place you on their "Aquarius Network" apparently if you do not specify it can be an ordeal to move networks in their system later...

Yes Rule #3 (up above) exists but I am posting the following for anyone so inclined to create a config profile for them in Broadvoice's place.

Port:                                 Protocol:
12060                                UDP - Sip Port
12061                                UDP - Sip Port
5060                                 UDP - Sip Port
5004                                  UDP - RTP Port
5012                                 UDP - RTP Port
4200                                 UDP - Web port for their remote access
23                                    TCP - Telnet for remote access to device
4192                                 TCP - Provision Port

User name in setup is NOT your account name, it is definitely your phone number.
This provider does not resolve IP differences if you are not correctly port forwarded through any external firewall or if you're on a dynamic IP
Method of activation.
When you receive your device (that is if you don't have your own,  I took it for the free ATA and didn't mention Asterisk) be sure to activate through your external network with a direct call to them, and not through a softphone on your lmce network.  After you place your first call and it configures itself you can move it to the internal network.
1004 recognized it right away and set it up under Asterisk, Budgetone 100 with 2 line outs, created as seperate child devices of the Budgetone 100.
After initial activation you log into their web page with your 'website' password and username.  Go to the modify services page and read their warning about not supporting any customer owned equipment etc etc.  After you click accept your SIP password, domain, phone number and username (your phone number) is revealed.

I have had the service for a little over a week now,  I cant comment on call clarity because I have yet to get Asterisk working under 1004.  ???

Users / SQL, templates, contributing, beginners info
« on: July 19, 2012, 07:27:31 pm »
I apologize if some of this is repeated constantly but I have been searching and cant find any information between: I-just-need-it-to-work user and developer.  I would consider these middle ground how-to instructions for someone who is willing to contribute and needs some direction.

Templates:

Is there a way to copy a template when creating a new device without altering the original?  I often times need to adjust a few properties only (such as advanced IP camera) when setting up a non-recognized or improperly recognized device.  Currently I am pen-and-paper writing down all the command groups etc.  Though I am learning a lot about "how" these things work in doing it this way it is killing my productivity.

Sharing Templates, Device Data, etc. via sqlCVS?:

So I created a new device for my D-Link 930L (wired or wireless IP cam).  I could use generic, advanced or tweak the existing D-Link cameras but I like things to be clean so I wanted my duck to be called a duck.  In development, is the LMCE direction to catalog and create device data for each piece or to come up with fewer generic device schemes that cover groups of equipment?

In my sqlCVS area of the web-admin page I see where I can pull in using the no-pass account which is pre-populated.  How do I go about uploading anything I create for review and possible inclusion?

Designer:

It's very clear that as the UI goes that the old program is no longer used and effort is going into new schemes and methods.  What I am hunting for information on though is screen and object relationships.  When setting up a new device such as a camera and I am asked the PK_Object or PK_Screen # and have to tab out to find another device that uses it and hope I am correct.  I tried going into /usr/pluto/orbiter but the file names do not contain such numbers.  Is there a list of screens with numbers I am overlooking?

Bug Reporting:

I think something is a bug, I reload several times, I search wiki/forums/google and try to get it going on my own.  I could have screwed something up or it could be buggy.  Nobody else seems to be complaining about it on wiki/forums/google.  Would LMCE prefer rejecting tickets as user screw-up or not getting a ticket at all?

- Just a few questions I wanted to get posted before I tackle getting one IP cam, one A/V input and two streaming feeds into the Quad-Cam view.

Installation issues / Re: MSI-K7N2 Delta - general MD bios questions
« on: July 19, 2012, 06:07:55 pm »
Thank you for the info, that will help a lot in future builds.  However unfortunately after failing the pxe boot I reconnected the drives and failed to install any OS, most hung or froze, Windoze gave me a pretty blue glow in my room from that loud screen.  This was one of my first builds so I will hang onto it and try to revive it in time.  For now though I need to gut that case and get something back into that rack slot.

Let that be a lesson to me and to anyone else trying to "give lmce a shot", use hardware you know works.

Installation issues / MSI-K7N2 Delta - general MD bios questions
« on: July 18, 2012, 01:07:18 pm »
I am trying to PXE boot a severely stripped down PC and am getting a lot of errors on the MD side.  I have searched the forums, the wiki and generic ubuntu forums but have not come up with good answers.  Below is my setup, if you have experienced similar please help point me in the right direction.

MSI K7N2 Delta board
AMD Athlon XP 3000
NVIDIA nForce2 chipset
ATI Radeon AGP 8x (sorry cant remember the series offhand)
PowerSupply and RAM
No floppy, no HDD, no DVD, no PCI cards
Reviewing the manual I assured no jumpers were out of wack
Boot option set to USB, PXE, other boot disabled

My network works fine and I can see this MD make the connection.  The various errors I get are all from the MD to the MD and revolve around the cpu locking up.

BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 61s! [plymouthd:348]

I dug around and found the recommendation to re-seat and verify all my hardware (ram etc) was in place.  I did that and continued to see this error.  Additionally I saw mention of MTU being set to 1500 in the scrolling.  I read an article on the wiki about changing the mtu setting but I am not thinking that is the issue.

I then went to the web-admin on the core and rebuilt the image for this MD, thinking I might have not let it complete.  After a quick reload router I fired the MD again and had this error.  Much much reading later I found some reference to APIC=off and IRQ "static" causing processors to lock.

In this boards bios are settings to disable IRQs, assign priority, turn off apic, and lots of things that I just cant grasp after one day of reading.  I do have the manual however and if someone could share some global settings on MDs that tend to work I would really appreciate it.  I would also appreciate if anyone just say "Guy, that board is ####, find another MD project."

Installation issues / Re: Returning user looking for 8.10 assistance

I let the thingy do its thingy!

I am taking notes on this latest installation and so far have a really smoothly running starting point to clone and hopefully break with lots of testing. =)

The xfs was never put on the install partition, what I was doing was trying to set up my storage drives ahead of time before the lmce install.  Based on things I have read on this forum I was hoping to accomplish the following:

Small LMCE partition (20ish gigs) for the sake of backing up frequently.
XFS file system on my media storage drives based on recommendations for 'new' drives on the system.
Avoiding the trouble I had with LMCE discovering my drives incorrectly or repeatedly discovering them.

What ended up working:

Removing all drives except the 160
Ran the DVD and "let the thingy do its thingy" -install on entire disk ***
Got it up and running, completed AV wizard etc
Power down
Plug in 3 additional drives and boot live using ubuntu 12.04 disk
formatted each drive as xfs (did nothing to mount or ownership)
powered up
Allowed lmce to detect my drives and use its file structure (mb free displayed correctly)

I have rebooted several times now and everything seems to be stable.  Are either of you suggesting I take the system back down and use a different scheme?  I am not that far into this setup to start over and do it how you two would.

*** edit to clarify that it selected its own formatting, etx4 ***

Plugging away with getting 10.04 up and running on my machine the last few days.  I have had some "ahh haa!" moments and some frustrations.  I have almost got to what I would call stable and ready to be backed up with clonezilla, only to find something not quite recognized or installed correctly.

My biggest difficulty has been with my hard drives.  Seagate 160g (sda) Seagate 250g (sdb) Seagate 1000g (sdc) Seagate 250g (sdd)

First install:  160 -> 20gig install partition mounted as / , 10gig swap , 130 gig formated as xfs marked do not use.  Three remaining drives where xfs and marked do not use.
Second install  160 -> 30 gig install, 130 gig xfs, all other drives xfs and marked do not use
blew away all formatting and replaced all with ext4
Third install: 160 as install ext4 (told it to use all of it just to get the thing going, all other drives marked as do not use and ext4

My issue has been the detection of these drives in lmce.  I continually get lmce 'discovering' new drives.  I left it on overnight and woke up with 13 drives listed in my devices of web-admin. It discovers them as 1001meg drives and I have to ignore them.  My list of unknown devices in advanced>config>unknown is constantly growing.  I am about ready to redo my installation after I pull out all drives except the 160 and pull out my winTV-150 as well.

What package and configuration of gparted allows you to format in XFS?  I believe I am missing something because its greyed out in my available format types.

I will be glad to go back through my setup and make specific notes on my settings, once I am home this evening.

I cannot remember the name of the GUI interface I downloaded and played with... Gtport or something...

I connected a male to male serial cable from my core to my tv.  Then using the manual I was able to talk directly through /ttyS0 to my TV.  At first I saw a lot of NG replies and illegal command returns '00' but eventually got it to do my bidding.

Here is something you need to establish first that I overlooked.  The TV has a definable ID, you set this with the original remote via menu.  If the TV is calling itself 99 and you send commands to 01, you won't even get an ack.

Are you saying that after the first load and reboot, it never took you to AVWizard? You shouldn't have to do anything. It should just drop you into avwiz after install. As for the beeps, I will look into that as well. I don't have any PC Speakers. I ripped them all out because they woke my wife up boot after reboot late at night.

If you have ever accidentally assigned the webDT orbiter to your hybrid you will be familiar with what I mean,  the screen posts to the upper left corner of the display at 800x600 and ignores the rest of the display (mine is currently 12?? X 1080)  That is where the House/Media Director setup wizard started.  I am stating that yes, my install with the DVD bypassed the normal av wizard (without sara) where display output>resolution>refresh>etc is established.

If you would like to test this my video card is a nVidia 7600 GT, I had a yellow line in my on-screen scripts where it selected the proprietary driver instead of default and downloaded those files.

Regarding the beeps I am just accustomed to hovering over the W key during first install because 8.10 never liked my DVI-2 display which goes through a kvm switch via conversion to vga.  During the 10.04 DVD install both DVI-1 and DVI-2 were detected and mirrored displays where chosen for me.

I finished setting up my LG rs232 tv last night and it took a while to get into working order.  Fortunately LG is really good about giving their serial port settings and commands in their product manuals free from their site.

My model is a 60PV250.
Using template LG>Plasma/LCD/Projectors>232 controlled [newer models]
I had to assign this to my CORE and not to The core/hybrid
specified com method was /ttyS0
changed a few commands to match the manual, 01 and 00 were swapped for power on, [k][a] for
  • here and there etc.

changed the delay between commands, I noticed the tv only taking a few or the first command when a sequence was sent
removed some commands for tuner control as my setup has this device as end of the line display only.  I do not pull any video back off its tuners

Amazing job.  I had to pull friends into my room while I installed to check out how clean LMCE has gotten.  The new splash screens were a nice touch.   I only have a couple small quirks which could very well be my hardware and settings but will mention them and post a ticket for the drive issue.

Clonezilla is unable to backup sda (sda1, sda5, sda6) after install.  States disk is broken?  Seagate 160g sata.  20gig ext4 partition for files, 10gig swap, 130 gig xfs.  This may be a clonezilla setting and unrelated to lmce at all but thought I would mention it.

Motion.conf is installing as disabled by default.  I had to manually edit the .conf file and change the text to =yes

The classic three beeps at the splash screen for av wizard no longer occurs, I missed my chance and completed initial room setup with a small window and later knew to pull av wizard command from orbiter.

WebDT orbiter screen locked at Basic Skin, unable to refresh with new devices or load skin Brushed Aluminum, Blue Crystal, Ulta (that I have tried)

Users / Re: Using a camera with composite
« on: July 16, 2012, 07:46:21 pm »

I should mention at this point that the camera is to monitor nesting boxes. The other option is to have the receiver going straight to my television - I could still have a scenario that switches to that input, which would be sweet (plus it would be nice and smooth), but not sure how I would do any recording however.

I adore this idea.  The wireless cameras although I read all the threads and realize they were hard to get going are now hooking up flawlessly.  Analog to capture cards is much more difficult I have found.  I think while I work on the settings to get mine working I am going to go with your idea of a triggered input change and live feed.  This signal could even be passed down through devices with their own inputs going to the tv, such as a receiver or VCR.  We loose the functionality of cams hooked up in this way as motion detectors however small zwave pip or motion switches are easy enough to add in that regard.

It is a shame though for the price, my analog cameras are much nice quality and video than my IP cams and they cost about 1/3 as much.  Harbor Freight here in Michigan has color infared cameras with 80 feet of wire for $39 (US).  They do an amazing job of seeing in the dark and I dont doubt would even detect motion in it.

To build on your idea of a switched feed, I will play around with announcements in text to speech and maybe a custom skin to switch to the closest AV device based on current room or selection made from a quad view display on (non-onscreen) orbiters.

Going to follow this post and hopefully the two of us can work this out.  I also am looking to use analog cameras and need to get that feed into my system somehow.  Here are the things I have tried so far and the success I have had:

WinTV-150

Myth on tuner port, camera on composite = telling sara that the camera was there gave me no picture on the security scene or web admin
$ cat /dev/video[0] > video[0].mpeg
Doing this for each of my inputs on that card (0, 24 and 32) gave me randomly static or a signal.  Obviously the camera was not in control of switching inputs and something else was.

Myth on tuner port, camera on composite = telling sara that the camera was another piece of AV equipment (dish network satellite 211K??)
$ cat ~
Again sometimes I got an image and other times not.  However, I was able to pull up the cam from the orbiters by selecting the satellite.  No motion detection, no neat PK screen but the image got to the screen.  Obviously at this point I know the camera feed works and that the capture card works.

Reinstall
I read that the winTV-150 likes to randomly reset itself to outputting /dev/video[X] from the tuner input.  There was a command in the satellite group that contained a string pointing to a Select_Input.sh file.
Connected the composite camera feed to an RF modulator and connected it to the tuner port.  Video again as a satellite but no motion and no ability to record using the satellites PK screen.
Changed the controlled by category for Satellite>[P211K] and the device template to generic analog camera,  leaving the original commands and ruby codes.
No complaints from Motion Wrapper for getting a new child but no image on screen.

That was about the extent of my testing on different hookups.  I just moved up to 10.04 so I have a lot of other things to work on at the moment but I like this project.

How many cameras are you looking to connect, and what functionality do you need them to have?  If they are all composite then a easy solution would be to pick up an old AV receiver that you can find IR codes for, pipe all the cameras into its composite inputs and switch inputs each time you launch the screen for that cam.

Thank you for the responses.  Like I said the move to apartment life took me away from following lmce, not my appreciation for the helpful people here.

So last night I pulled down the latest SQL items from web-admin while I slept. This morning I was greated by 10.04 (ish)...  My kernel however was still old of course so I browsed around a bit and decided to reinstall @ 10.04 from DVD to update everything at once.  My house uses a 3G Internet signal so I am dl'ing at a friends place tonight.

I could easily search these issues and I will attribute them all to my crazy path to 10 but,  is any variety of motion, kmotion or motion2 working with the DVD install?  I had some aliasing issues with my nvidia 195? driver that worked before except without twin view.

I spent some time on eBay this morning and picked up the HDhomeRun for my primary video capture device.  I noticed the analog pvr cards like my wintv150 are worth pennies.  I am going to build a seperate box filled with them to act as a surveillance machine.  Could this be booted with an image as a MD?  I know some resources are shared and this wouldn't record from the cameras unless an event triggered it.

Z-wave got cheaper!  I picked up the Aeon labs USB device to get started and found a few switches and plugs for under $10 each!  Between that and the USB irt units I will have enough to keep me busy.  Full system list and custom event overview in a couple of weeks.

Stability and personal experience with 8.10.  For media playback which was 9/10ths of my original setup 8.10 worked flawlessly for me.

When I came back to the forums and wiki after this break and saw the new progress I didnt think the dl for 10.04 was far enough along in its development for me to either:

a: get a working system going
b: contribute anything to the real 'programmers' who were just developing it

With the frustration I am having though with getting things connected I will take your suggestion and backup 8.10 now to load 10.04 this afternoon.  Thanks for the reply.

« on: July 14, 2012, 10:09:27 am »
About 4 years ago I had a nice small lmce install going at my place in Arizona.  Since then I have had to relocate and ended up in living situations where I couldn't set up properly.

I am now living in Michigan and able to run cables and with the help of my roommate develop some neat little toys for home automation.  I have been wracking my brain and body the last week trying to get a few components going.  I have been through every wiki, searched all forum pages I could find and have put the effort into trying to write my own templates.  If another user who is fond of challenges can simply point me in a few new directions I would be more than grateful.  Without running down my entire log entries or build I will jump right to my biggest issues.  With these resolved I will be happy saying the system is running, and I can devote more time to developing new add-ons.

Core/Hybrid: stable, using latest 8.10.   ( Only issues with reps was some language packs )
This machine was built 4 years ago with a complete 'compatible parts' list.

Issue #1. Analog Camera ( composite outputs, one audio one video ) connected to WinTV-150.  No matter how I try to device pipe or motion wrap this I can not get the feed from the /dev/video0 to generate on my orbiters or admin site.  I did find one user post that said his composite port inputs worked when he told the media director wizard that it was Dish Network>Satellite Box>XXXX.  Using this trick I was able to cat /dev/video0 > video0.mpeg and view my feed.  I can also view the feed on the media director but not as a camera and not with motion detection.

- The ability to watch television is not important at all for my household.  I have decided it will be easier to buy a DVB capture card for that purpose down the road and only use the WinTV-150 for camera feeds.

- I have several D-Link 930L motion IP cameras set up as Generic Motion IP camera under Motion as well.  On the template for motion wrapper, it lists 1,8 for capture type ( card or USB)  Is it possible to have two motion wrappers on my system?  Has anyone found a way to force motion wrapper into taking both type of inputs?

My clonezilla disk is wearing thin with all the re-imaging I am doing after breaking my set-up experimenting!
