Users / Re: How Long for initial PXE boot
« on: April 22, 2011, 07:52:01 pm »
Still having the problem ?

check the soft links on the MD in /usr/pluto/diskless/XX where XX is the MD designation.  Mine show.

initrd.img -> /usr/pluto/diskless/53/boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-14-generic
vmlinuz -> /usr/pluto/diskless/53/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-14-generic

You may have to manually fix if they are not pointing to the correct kernel boot files.
Everytime I generated a new MD they would point to ...27-7-generic which was wrong.

appologies for bumping on old post but I think I have this problem

the kernel refferences in /usr/pluto/diskless/81/boot dont seem to match my installed kernel
see below

Code: [Select]
uname -r
2.6.32-02063208-generic
chris@dcerouter:/$ cd /usr/pluto/diskless/81/boot
chris@dcerouter:/usr/pluto/diskless/81/boot$ ls
abi-2.6.27-17-generic     initrd.img                    System.map-2.6.27-17-generic  vmlinuz
config-2.6.27-17-generic  initrd.img-2.6.27-17-generic  vmcoreinfo-2.6.27-17-generic  vmlinuz-2.6.27-17-generic

could soemone please give me a step by step how to fix this?
I found a few howtos on changing sym link targets but not sure if thats the right way to fix this, I could be barking up the wrong tree

Thanks

Feature requests & roadmap / Media organising hierarchy
« on: February 19, 2011, 07:30:56 pm »
I realise this has been discussed before and often draws some heated debate, but I can’t find the specific answer in previous threads.
Is there any way to organise by multiple attributes in a hierarchical manner i.e.  Season > Episode > Title
It mostly relates to TV series tagged from imdb or TVdb.
Here’s an example with the auto tagging from TVdb I get the following attributes (amongst others)

Episode                01
Episode                British Are Coming
Release Date        Season 1
Title                     Allo! Allo!

This results in them being sorted by title alphabetically, the episode tag is effectively ignored. At the minute if I want to view all my Allo! Allo! Episodes in season and episode order I would have to rename the attributes like this

Episode              01
Episode              01 British Are Coming
Release Date      Season 1
Title                    Allo! Allo! Season 1

If you could sort by
Title> Release Date > Episode > Episode

Then it would be perfect.  I suppose there would need to be some distinction between the episode tags or use another attribute for the episode title.

There already seems to be some hierarchy (Title>Episode).  I was wondering where this is coded and if it would be possible to add a user defined hierarchy

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Multi Touch orbiter ideas

As I said I'm at a total beginner level when it comes to coding, but I've been a user of LinuxMCE for sometime and would love to be able to give back and contribute.

I was thinking of using something like this
http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/titanium_10_launches_build_native_apps_for_desktop_mobile_ipad.php

to build a proof of concept which will basically be a cover flow style app flicking through either movies or albums viewing cover image and title and a flick of the top of the screen to play on the TV.

Again total beginner so I'll scour the wiki for how to access the media tags I need in pluto_media
and I've played around with implementing dce commands so I'll need to work out how to launch specific media files using them.

I'm probably over simplifying massively and my ambition likely out ways my skill but hey you gotta start learning somewhere

any pointers in the wright direction wouldn’t go amiss

Feature requests & roadmap / Multi Touch orbiter ideas
« on: January 22, 2011, 05:42:40 pm »
I've been playing with the idea of making a multi touch coffee table (see http://nuigroup.com/forums/) recently and ideas of how to integrate it and use it with linuxmce have been buzzing around my head, then I stumbled upon this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tio5OvIqToc
A lot of cool stuff, particularly flicking media towards to the TV to play or display it.
With the recent explosion in popularity of tablet pcs it could be a good addition to LinuxMCE.

I'm willing to input however I can only programming i know is a bet of web stuff, but i taught myself that and I'm always looking for projects, if someone pointed me in the right direction I could start teaching myself what I need.

Installation issues / Re: Beta2 Installation Problem and solution
« on: September 21, 2010, 09:57:26 am »
I'm having the same problem.
VGA isn’t always the easiest option.  I have a Hitachi 42" TV (42PD8600) and because of its unusual panel dimensions it makes it hard to find the correct settings in the AV wizard as most of them give a similar "Invalid format" message.

If you want to use VGA you have to boot up with VGA connected, go through the wizard and choose your correct connector then reboot, swap cables, and hope you got the settings right.  If not and you get the same "Invalid format" message, so its swap to VGA boot up again and try another. But then not all of the settings will output an image with VGA, some of them will be out of the Panels range.  I'm aware that I have an awkward TV, but I think VGA for first run of the AVwizard isn’t always the way to go.
I was going to try this tonight but I think I may go with kyfalcons method instead.
Unless anyone can point out something I am missing?

I have just got the same keyboard
I get the same problem, nothing shows up.  I can connect manually using
Code: [Select]
hidd --connect 00:07:61:F6:E4:33
(replacing my MAC address with your own keyboards, if you want to try this)
but that has to be done every time the keyboard or core/MD is turned off.  It would be nice to be able to pair properly

23
Thanks Thom, I'll have a look at that.

24
I've been tagging some TV shows from IMDB, the title attribute was filled in automatically and I added the episode tag manually.
In the web orbiter when I am browsing videos it shows the title (fetched from IMDB) and the episode tag right after it.
However when I lookup the same file in the onscreen orbiter all that is displayed is the title.

Is there any way I can get the OSO to display like the WO?  Not much point in having 20 episodes saying "Battlestar Galactica Season 1" with no way to distinguish them.

looks like there are other IR sources in my room.  possibly from my celing lights.  I live in a flat and they have the lots of little lights sunk into the celling, it seems when I point my wiimote at the roof I get soem reaction (even when the sensor bar is off)

I get much better movement when the lights are off, I also noticed my sensor bar (which is a battery model, modded to use USB power) wiring had come loose a bit so the LEDs weren't as bright as they should have been.

I still cant reach the far right of my scrren with the pointer though.
Can someone tell me how I can add the "server layout" to my xorg.conf without rendering my system unbootable,
that way I can try the fix from the wiki (the one for cursor confined to bottom left corner of screen).

Installation issues / RFID reader (Mir:ror by violet) and possible uses
« on: December 16, 2009, 02:26:23 pm »
Hi all,

Got my LinuxMCE system running fairly well now and I was wanting to try and use my mir:ror (a commercially available RFID device, see http://www.violet.net/_mirror-give-powers-to-your-objects.html) to trigger scenarios.

The mir:ror is capable of launching files
So I was wondering if there are commands to launch scenarios from comand line, as I could add these to a script and get them to launch.

For example I could have a little rabbit with RFID chip (see violets page if this makes no sense) which when placed on the mir:ror will activate a sleep scenario turning of any lights and AV equipment. (Could even dress the rabbit in pyjamas to distinguish him, :-) )

Or I could have a RFID tag on my keys so when I dropped then the mir:ror when I get in it could turn on the TV ready for me to veg on the couch after a hard days work.  Or start playing any voicemails.

It would require violets program to be running on KDE desktop so it’s really just a work around.  I've never really done much coding but I'd be happy to work on a proper implementation if someone pointed me in the right direction.  It would also may be better to use the phidget readers since they don’t rely on violets software (which requires a net connection) but using the mir:ror for now would allow us to see how RFID triggered events might play out.

If it's something that works I would even consider getting an RFID implant so I can trigger events at the wave of a hand (http://www.amal.net/rfid.html)
Then I could have an RFID reader on my bedside table, combined with scenarios and day/night events it could activate sleep scenario at night and then if you setup a time triggered event in the morning to turn on music and lights (acting as an alarm clock) you could wave your hand over the sensor to snooze or cancel the alarm.

As you can see I'm full of ideas for this :-), and these are just of the top of my head, there are I am sure many other applications.  I think it could add a lot of handy functionality in terms of automation.

scratch that.  Its not working again.
It seems to work or not at random should the IR LEDs on the sensor bar be affected by lighting conditions in the room?
It's the only thing I can think of that would cause it to work and then not work so erratically.

The sensor bar emits two infrared lights.  The wiimote uses a camera to "see" these two light points.  The wiimote has a filter to only let pass infrared so the light from your TV doesn't confuse it.  However, sunlight and also lightbulbs will pass this filter.  If you have an actual wii, you can actually view what the wiimote is seeing to find what other lightsource it's picking up.  If there are other points of light (say reflection from a lightbulb) then the pointer will usually jump or flicker.  If it gets washed out so it can't identify points of light, it will stop moving.

Can I assume when your wiimote stops moving it is when you're poining towards your windows?

It stops moving once I move it a certain distance from the TV, before I get anywhere near the windows.
I do have a black glass TV stand which could well be reflecting the IR LED light.  I'll try putting some paper or something under the sensor bar and report back, thanks.

Either that or it thinks my screen is smaller than it is, but that wouldn't explain why sometimes I can reach all areas of the screen with the pointer and other times I can't

P.S. sorry for the multiposts guys

29
hmm weird.  It just started worrking perfectly today.
it is particularly foggy today though.  and there are a lot of windows in my front room.  mayeb the IR signal from the sensor bar was being diluted out with all the light coming in

30
I think I have the same or a similar problem.
I followed the wiki and I can get the pointer to all of the screen bar the far right (everything to the left of the advanced menu item I can access fine)

I tried adding the sections above to my xorg.conf but it makes my system unbootable (possibly because there was no server layout section before I added it in)

not sure if it is the same problem.  Is there a way to define the size of my screen.  it seems like the pointer is just stopping when it thinks it has reached the far right side.
