931  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: kobject_add_internal failed -> NOW -> failure to setup "X" on: January 27, 2011, 09:41:18 pm
Thanks again M8 Smiley
I've tried it and it seems to have helped me from my failure to setup x problem.
However all I get is the same blue screen on both my monitor and TV, just the message is gone.
Also, it didn't ask me for permission to change my xorg.conf, it just asked me if it was ok to check and update my Nvidia driver when necessary and I answered yes to that, it then told me to manually change my xorg.conf which I didn't do.
I did make a copy of my xorg.conf file as a backup so if something went wrong here I can always restore it.
Also I'm still able to enter the admin page, I changed my network a bit today, now it's like this:
Modem<-->WLAN router<-->Core/Hybrid<-->Wlan accespoint. Now everything works as it should and the misses can use her internet without having all kinds of trouble connecting cables and restarting modems and routers. I just have to choose with my laptop between the Internet network or the LinuxMCE network according to what I want to do with it.
But anyways, the Core/hybrid seems to work fine but just won't boot into the AVwizzard or the MCE shell.
I've red that there's a solution for that by changing settings in either the xorg.conf file or the admin page, but I don't want to screw anything up (any more than it is now Grin)

EDIT:
this might mean something... I just gave the manual command startx and the computer gives me the following message:

The NVIDIA GPU at PCI:1:5:0 does not have the necessary power cables attached; X cannot use this GPU until the problem is rectified. Please shut down your computer, open its case, and attach all of the appropriate power connectors. Please see the documentation provided with your NVIDIA GPU for more details.
Screen(s) found, but none have a useable configuration.

Well now, I really don't know if I should connect anything to my card, the only remedy to find it out is open up the case, so again Cheesy fingers crossed!

Lol... yes... there is very likely a mini-molex connector on your card. It requires its own power. It is either going to take a standard 4wire berg or mini-molex, or 6pin... I thought you had said it was an AGP card, so most certainly a 4 pin.

On the subject... what wattage is your PSU?

If it does not immediately come alive after plugging in, and your PSU has enough balls to rock it... you will probably want to do a fresh install.
932  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: kobject_add_internal failed -> NOW -> failure to setup "X" on: January 27, 2011, 03:13:03 pm
I don't think you should be having this problem... but this might fix it for you.

recovery mode, root shell
Code:
wget http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/260.19.36/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.36.run
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.36.run

Do NOT let it change your xorg when it asks.
Reboot and see if you can get to AVWizard

The reason I told you to set the network config is because the latest snapshots aren't doing it correctly for me.
933  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: kobject_add_internal failed on: January 26, 2011, 02:58:15 pm
Wacky.
I have not seen anything like the kobject error before. Let's see if correcting some probable errors will help.

You said you can get to the web admin from another machine. Go ahead and do that, at the top go to Advanced/Networking/Network Settings.
Click the assign DHCP radio. Set ranges 192.168.80.2-192.168.80.128 for LMCE devices
Click the assign anonymous radio. Set ranges 192.168.80.129-192.168.80.255
Set internal IP to 192.168.80.1 subnet 255.255.255.0

The card should be fine.

To be clear... this latest install, you changed the sources.list PRIOR to running the LMCE install script right? Currently it works best to change sources as soon as you get your first KDE desktop, then running
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
reboot, then run the install script on the desktop.

I need more specifics about your hardware.
What nvidia card?
Do you have 2 nics?
Not to go too basic... but does your bios have a setting to disable onboard rather than just choosing the port first?
How are you attempting to get sound, and if onboard... what is the board?
Try downloading the latest snapshot in the meantime. http://linuxmce.iptp.org/snapshots/
You should not have to do anything to your xorg
935  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: mythtv problem on: January 25, 2011, 05:13:34 pm
Ok... I think the first problem is that you do not want to choose the card in av devices.
I would go to the setup wizard, deselect it in av devices, and instead choose tuner 0 in inputs. This is a single tuner card, but shows two tuners, which confuses mine anyway. This is how I make it work:
I run the myth tv wizard, choose "provider1" scan channels, and attach "provider1" to tuner 0, and the unscanned LMCEDefault to tuner 1. (I do this because when it tries to "fix" itself during this process, it wants to assign them this way)
I go into web admin, device tree, core/(tuner name), select tuner 1 and choose "delete device" at the top of the main page.
Reload the router and run mythtv setup again, deleting the tuner 1 (highlight and press d key).
Exit, wait for the myth tv complete dislpay (there should only be 1 this time). Reboot, and tv works... again... for me. I am on different hardware, but LMCE is expecting 2 tuners.
You might need to remove the AV device from the tree in web admin also.

They gryo is plug and play. You do not need to add it, it is already added when you first plugged it in, you can see it in your device tree. Currently there is an issue with the buttons, they are not functioning correctly. I don't have a RAID setup, so I can't help you there.
936  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: 0810 Snapshot 23645 Install Experience on: January 25, 2011, 04:47:24 pm
I just did another install of 23645, and will test md in a moment.

What I did was change the sources directly after KDE install, then update/dist-upgrade before installing LMCE. Let you know if it rolls.
937  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: 0810 Snapshot 23645 Install Experience on: January 25, 2011, 12:45:00 pm
Heres hoping for you............L3mce

Hey Ted with those commands is there any chance of wiping my existing RAID array

No hope for me I been told.
Same result w/o pdate/upgrade. Quick mysql crash and infinite reboot.
938  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: 0810 Snapshot 23645 Install Experience on: January 25, 2011, 02:29:22 am
I got impatient.

i will  tell you what doesn't work,

A good image from Aug which had been running perfect since then, with the following procedure...
Install kubuntu
At KDE  edit sources.list. update, reboot
Edit sources again (either i missed a lot or it changed. i want to say changed.) dist-upgrade reboot. * I missed a lot it seems now.
Install LMCE
On reboot fails mysql (I think) and cycles reboot.

Trying fresh install, no update/upgrade... changing sorces running LMCE script after post.

Entirely possible I hosed the thing on update with missing sources. Prolly should have run again or fix-missing.
939  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: 0810 Snapshot 23645 Install Experience on: January 24, 2011, 03:08:50 pm
I am dlding the latest snap now over my rusty internet connection, so that will be about 12 hours. Was going to do another fresh install tonight. After I do that, if I have the same results I will go back to snap... ugh... somewhere in November or December... not finding right this second. That one was fine until one day a week ago the NIS lost it's mind. I chased it around for a while to no avail, and started grabbing snaps.
940  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: 0810 Snapshot 23645 Install Experience on: January 24, 2011, 02:53:48 pm
Hi all. Been a while.
23621-23645 have the following issues in common in my experience on 0810 (Asus m3n78-ev core/hybrid)
I have left sources be, changed sources before LMCE install scripts, and after, results are always the same.

1. Second NIC setup fails. Must assign DHCP, IP, and ranges through web admin.
2. Gyration 6 button (GC1501) mouse buttons no longer bring up f6 f7 f8 functions. Middle button brings up "adjust time stretch" in Myth.
3. Remotes break a lot. LIRC, and a mini-dinovo specifically. 5 or 6 clicks too quickly and it is done. These do not return without full reboot (ie changing ports, removing and replacing in admin, regen/reload do nothing).
4. Media Buttons on anything but LIRC are mostly non functioning, where they used to.
5. Audio changed source now to Front instead of PCM. Still grabs PCM sometimes when adjusting volume. Seems random.

I couldn't get through the mceinstall.sh on 10.04. Will try on a toy box more tomorrow.
941  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Core/Hybrid delayed movie start on: October 17, 2010, 04:41:02 pm
I believe this is an NVIDIA alpha layering issue. Are you:
On the 8300 Chipset?
Running UI2 alpha?
If you drop to tty2 and back to 7, does it play immediately?
942  LinuxMCE / Developers / Re: Clutter Exercise: Media List on: October 17, 2010, 04:32:03 pm
Yes.

Every time I make headway my life folds in around me. Will have a working model before forever or never. Need a job.
943  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: AV Wizard - Failed to setup X - can't download driver on: October 03, 2010, 02:45:44 am
For your own edification, I don't have an MD atm so I cannot confirm this, but what I remember from diddling around a long time ago with the moon units, was that I was never in the directory I thought I was in, or where things should go. I often was executing things on the server instead of the MD as well.

Code:
find / -name 'NVIDIA*.run'

You can see if it is lurking somewhere. As memory serves, and I drink a lot, wget was not dropping to the moon dir structure.

What I ended up doing, as memory serves, was DL the file to a thumb drive, open KDE on the MD and dragged it to the desktop, drop to a shell, kill x, and sh from there... I was new to linux, and could not mount anything vista formatted so I fell back on dummy tools to partition in linux.

Just found a PCIe x1 ION card for 60 bucks I plan on playing with once we are eating regular again.

944  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: AV Wizard - Failed to setup X - can't download driver on: October 02, 2010, 03:30:56 pm
Yes, absolutely correct... however you should not be trying to ssh over the external (internet) assuming the other PC is on the same (internal) network, it should be at 192.168.80.1 and assign everything else. Almost every unexpected AVWizard behavior I have had, btw, has been rooted in a bad network setup. I assume the reason for that is beyond my sphere of understanding.

Here is my xorg. Nvidia 8300 (on board) over HDMI UI2 alpha.

Maybe... if you feel bold...

http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Saa713x_devices:_Generic_SAA7134_Card_Installation
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Saa7134-alsa

Saa7134-alsa should give you audio over cable... but it is duct tape... and recompiling that kernel might break stuff. Should give it a shot and work on making a template so it is plug and play in the future.
