91  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: PC as Media Director (PXE) on: September 17, 2012, 07:14:10 am
Ok... I need those having issues getting to avwizard to please confirm that cat /etc/pluto.conf  shows that AVWizardOverride = 1
Then I need you to ls /var/log/pluto/AVWizard_Run* | wc -l

The AVWizardOverride=0 in my case.
So i just replaced it with 1.

s@dcerouter:/usr/pluto/diskless/390$ more var/log/pluto/AVWizard_Run_20120917_080310.log | wc -l
Code:
299

And after a reboot
s@dcerouter:/usr/pluto/diskless/390$ more var/log/pluto/AVWizard_Run_20120917_081031.log | wc -l
Code:
299

But after the reboot, the AVWizardOverride is again 0?

92  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Different Screensavers on: September 16, 2012, 11:03:18 am
Today, the screensaver shows pictures of flick. Nice, but not what i really want to see.

Maybe it would be nice to show some interesting stuff of the system itself?
This way, the screensaver is not only a screensaver, but also a usefull tool...

I'm thinking of
  • Images of the surveillance camera's
  • Floorplans of the house with status of outputs (lights, power outlets...)
  • Floorplans of the house with security sensors
  • Health of the server (disk, cpu, mem...)
  • Other images (fe Weathermaps of cacti)
  • ....

selecting "Video Res & Audio Setup"

when i select this, the MD directly reboots. And comes back to the original UI.
Seems that the wizard doesn't want to come up...
94  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: PC as Media Director (PXE) on: September 16, 2012, 09:08:59 am
Installing from the new snapshot means reinstalling the server (core)? That's something i want to avoid. The server is working perfectly for the moment, and i don't want to mess up the current config.  Undecided

Beside that, i've done a 'rebuild image', and now the MD is booting correctly.
Not fast-fast, about 90 seconds. Is this a reasonable speed? Or should it be faster?

Only issue i've got is that GUI, i've got the standard orbiter screen. And I prefer a more MultiMedia screen for my home theater. But this should be a small setting somewhere, no? Baby steps...

brononius: Is diskless_createtbz.sh finishing or stopping at this error?

I was a bit impatient i think.   Roll Eyes

The error 'ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'dcerouter' (110)' needed to be about 20 times on my screen, and took about 15 minutes. After that, the installation went one without errors .

The end lines of the Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh:
Code:
Setting up lmce-plymouth-theme (2.0.0.45.12081326353) ...
update-alternatives: using /lib/plymouth/themes/LinuxMCE/LinuxMCE.plymouth to provide /lib/plymouth/themes/default.plymouth (default.plymouth) in auto mode.

Fri Sep 14 08:03:00 CEST 2012 - Diskless media director image setup completed without a detected issue!

When i now start my pc, it takes a long time to load. About 20 minutes?
When the status bar is at the end i had following results:
  • One time i hit a key on my keyboard, and my screen went black
  • One time i had a mouse cursor, but that was it

Now trying again...I'll not give up...

ps i hope that this boot procedure will be faster once completed. Else i'll see to insert a HD. The media director needs to be fast!
Else my girlfriend won't be motivated to use it...  Undecided

The script and database are running local (core)...
Not sure where i need to look for a network issue.

For the moment i`ve recreated manually the MD.
The core is building the image,  i'll try it once more that way...
97  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: PC as Media Director (PXE) on: September 13, 2012, 05:55:16 pm
I've installed it from the DVD.

And when i run /usr/pluto/bin/Di...., it results in an error after a while:

I've done this, but then the MD (pc) doesn't boot cause missing image.
And LinuxMCE doesn't seem to pick up machine to do something with it...
99  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / PC as Media Director (PXE) on: September 13, 2012, 04:41:54 pm
Hey,

Is there somewhere a good manual/wiki that describe how to setup a media director?
Just bought a small and silent motherboard (MSI-E350I1-E45) for my livingroom.  No harddisk, only the motherboard and a DVD reader.

In LinuxMCE, i've added a Media Director, inserted the IP and MAC.
And waiting till the compilation is done.

When i now boot it PXEboot, everything boots well (in my eyes).
But it ends with a login prompt? With the 'hostname': Moon352.
I suspected a nice LinuxMCE orbiter screen or simular.

Did i do anything wrong? Or am I missing something?  Undecided

ps for testing, i'm using a VGA connection instead of the HDMI output. But i suppose that this won't be an issue?
100  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Motion GUI on: September 11, 2012, 02:19:40 pm
Damned...  Embarrassed

Today i've installed on my server 'zoneminder' to have a bit more control on the IP-camera's.
More historical views/logs, a nice global overview of all camera's. But i've got the impression that zoneminder likes to use a lot of resources.

And since i would like to avoid multi servers, a complex setup... i hoped to fall back on motion...

101  LinuxMCE / Users / Motion GUI on: September 11, 2012, 01:40:22 pm
If i'm not wrong, linuxmce works with motion to take snapshot of the IP-camera's.
I'm wondering if there exist a tool/gui to give us more control on this.
Or can you see this already?

fe Personally i'm interested to see the pictures that were taken.

102  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Mediatomb & PS3 give some folder issues on: September 10, 2012, 10:58:36 am
Was this a PS3 OS replacement to linux?

No-no-no... Wink

I use the PS3 with the standard Sony OS on.
I simply use the videoplayer in the PS3 to reach a mediaserver (LinuxMCE / mediatomb) in my network.

I'm not a big fan to install an extra machine in my living room to view some movies. Specially when i can do it with an device that already can do it. And this device is quite silent, HDMI...

ps between us said, my next phase is installing a mediadirector (pc?) to see how that concept works...  Lips sealed
103  LinuxMCE / Users / Mediatomb & PS3 give some folder issues on: September 10, 2012, 09:45:09 am
Hey,

I can nicely play media from my LinuxMCE with a Playstation3.
The only thing that's a bit annoying is the level of folders.
Playstations limits the folder depth (i thought 7?).

So when i now browse, i've got:
Code:
LinuxMCE/home/public/data/videos/932G\ ST31000340AS\ \(sdb2\)\ on\ dc\ \[350\]/Series/SomeSerie

So this is /1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8

Media in level 7 (Series) are playable.
Media in level 8 (SomeSerie) isn't reachable anymore.

Is there (of course there is  Wink ) a way to limit this a bit?
That for example i've got a symbolic link that maps LinuxMCE/home/public/data/videos/932G\ ST31000340AS\ \(sdb2\)\ on\ dc\ \[350\]  to LinuxMCE/videos

What's the best way for this?
104  LinuxMCE / Wiki / Re: Contact writer(s) on: September 06, 2012, 07:45:41 am
i'm one of the writer of the articel, but as i said, only one of the guys... what do you mean with "input" module?

With the input module, i mean reading the 'light switches/buttons' in the EIB setup. In the meantime, this problem is solved. I had a problem with that my 'button' i configured in LinuxMCE didn't had the flag 'SEND' in ETS. Still having some issues with the group adresses and so. I'm totally lost with all x/x/x's and y/y/y's... Is it me? Or bad documentation tools?  Lips sealed
Once everything is working like it should i'll update my manual page and also publish it in the wiki's...

But this topic was more to improve the wiki way of working. Wink
105  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / News flash on: September 05, 2012, 06:17:42 am
Maybe a nice feature would be that a LinuxMCE "administrator" could send a kind of news flash that's pushed to all LinuxMCE installation?

Today, when you log in with ssh, you see from time to time update messages. Mostly i do this, but i'm always afraid that i can/will break something with this. For examply the message "New release precise available". I've seen on this forum that this will break the system?! So luckly i've seen the message? But i think that not everyone is looking each time all posts on the forum.

So maybe it would be nice that we can see a message from 'linuxMCE' that this is a bad idea?
This could also be used for mayor updates messages, new features...?

The message could/should appear when you login with ssh.
And maybe also on the admin page, an orbiter... ?

fe after log in with ssh
