331  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / mysql rights on: July 21, 2011, 04:12:26 pm
You won't believe it, but i messed up my database right completely...
I was trying to install extra things on the server (like cacti, phpmyadmin...).

And somewhere, i messed up. I can't access the webmin anymore. It just returns a blank page.
When i stop the mysqld, and restart it with " sudo mysqld --skip-grant-tables", i can access it again.
So somewhere i messed up the rights.

Any idea how i can repair this? :$

That's the reason for dhcp-extra.conf Smiley

Always nice to have confirmation. Wink
333  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Fixed IP on: July 21, 2011, 09:51:18 am
Hey,

All my network devices use dhcp.

Nice because this way i can change whatever i want (reason of dhcp).
Not nice because i don't find the option in linuxmce to assign fix ip's.

Several things in my network must be know by their ip to interconnect internally (fe printers, workstations with shares, IP-router of KNX...)
I found out that i can add fixed ip's in /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd-extra.conf, and it works (yeahhh).

more dhcpd-extra.conf
Code:
host hostname.mydomain.net {
  hardware ethernet 00:11:22:33:44:55;
  fixed-address 192.168.111.2;
}

And then a restart of the dhcp server
Code:
/etc/init.d/dhcp3-server restart

Works great, but now my question, is this the way to do it? Or will some things not work as supposed?

334  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / [Solved] KNX IP ROUTER 750 on: July 18, 2011, 06:05:23 pm
Hey,

To control my home automation, i've got a KNX IP ROUTER 750.
Basically, this convert my ethernet network with the EIB.

Can you give me a hint how i can insert this into linuxmce in order to work?
335  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Installation drops direct to initramfs on: July 14, 2011, 04:40:51 pm
Couldn't find the 24164-2nd.
So i tried it with the 24161-2nd. But this fails as well.

Now downloading the 24164 (the normal / first one?). And will try it with that one.
Hope this one will go, almost through my empty dvd's...  Lips sealed

ps the USB-keyboard isn't working on all the latest versions for me. But a PS works..
336  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Installation drops direct to initramfs on: July 13, 2011, 06:38:26 pm
Hey,

When i'm trying one of the latest versions (24147 & 24164), the installation stops almost directly into a prompt 'initramfs'. The only thing i can choose is the language and the next question (linuxmce, kubuntu...). I tried linuxmce or kubuntu, but both give the same result.
When i take an old version (fe 24012), the installation starts without any problem.

Any idea what goes wrong?
337  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: {extif} for second interface on: July 04, 2011, 07:44:42 am
Okay, you're absolete right.

...If you don't have the time to do it good, when will you have the time to do it over...

This weekend a fresh installation, but it fails, again...
Damend, why is it so hard to install this linuxmce stuff... A simple apt-get install would be fantastic...  Sad
338  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: {extif} for second interface on: July 01, 2011, 04:48:16 pm
hmmm, strange...

I did this, and then 'sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart'.
And everything seems in order. I nicely get an IP from my provider, the LAN is working...

Before i do anything else, i want to be sure that all settings are known everywhere.
So i rebooted the server.
But when i look nows, the /etc/network/interfaces is overwritten with the old stuff? The {extif} is back in place?

any idea how this come?

339  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: {extif} for second interface on: June 26, 2011, 04:30:45 pm
Not working like it should be.
I don't get any dhcp offers on the LAN with this configuration.

When i swap them back again, the LAN is working 100% correctly, but the WAN isn't recieving an IP from the provider.
So i think that this {extif} must be resolved before i can continue...

ps the installation was done as http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installing_1004.
This went great. With the ISO the system stops constantly with rendering and so... :$
340  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / {extif} for second interface on: June 26, 2011, 03:43:19 pm
Hey,

I'm having troubles with my 2 network cards. These are 2 build in ones on a Dell poweredge server.

  • In the config, the first one (WAN) is tagged as {extif}, and doesn't get a IP from my provider. The second one (LAN) is seen correctly (fixed ip on eth0).
    So this isn't working.
  • When i now swap the cables and chooes 'swap interfaces', my new WAN-port is tagged as eth0 and gets a proper IP from the provider.
The second one is now tagged as {extif} with a fix ip.

So it's working in situation 2, but i suppose that something isn't 100% correct here.
Any thoughts on it?
341  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Velbus: CAN bus on: January 27, 2011, 08:58:42 pm

I started already 4 times a reply on this. And each time, i find myself to 'rough' in my replies. So this is my last attempt.
A moderator can close/remove this topic if he wants... Didn't have any good results, positive answers...

I really want to use a good product that combines IT with domotica.
And i really don't want to learn a program language to get it working.
So i'll put linuxmce beside, and velbus next to it.
And restart the search for other products, with a more userfriendly system and support...

Thanks for your great positive support and feedback...
Gives a good idea what you can expect from the global system...
342  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Velbus: CAN bus on: December 23, 2010, 08:46:52 am

No idea. I suppose it is? When i check their forum, they talk the whole time about C++ and .NET.
For the moment, i don't see links with/for linux...

This should be a summary of the protocol:
http://www.velleman.eu/downloads/Velbus_ProtocolSummary.pdf

343  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Velbus: CAN bus on: December 22, 2010, 12:39:38 pm
Maybe you're right.
That's the whole problem/question: What's the best, where to buy, how much, pro's/contra's...

I'll definely look into the KNX product line...

Maybe it's an idea to put a kind of chart together with commonly used systems?
I really loved this chart for monitoring systems: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_network_monitoring_systems
If i can help with this, give me a yell...

344  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Velbus: CAN bus on: December 22, 2010, 12:13:12 pm
Maybe i describe it wrong...

Velbus = hardware (cheaper then most domotica hardware)
   Software center = paid software
   linuxMCE = freeware

So wouldn't it be great if Velbus works with linuxMCE?
Great hardware stuff, great software stuff, for a low price?

And yes, i can learn to program. And yes, i can put 100's of hours of work in it. And yes, i can try/test/fail for 100 hours...
But hey, maybe somebody did it already? Or maybe somebody can help me out in, hmmm, maybe 4 hours?

345  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Velbus: CAN bus on: December 22, 2010, 10:09:06 am
Hey,

A really nice (and not so expensive) domotica system is Velbus. It has been created by Velleman. Checkout http://www.velbus.eu
They've got almost a solution for all systems, and even a software center.
But this software center is 'too' expensive.
Once you like the opensource software world... Wink

Velbus is working on the system 'CAN bus'.
And i'm thinking to see how i can implement this in linuxMCE.

Is it difficult to do this?
Or is anybody willing to have look a it?
