301  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Generic Proxy Orbiter on: August 28, 2011, 01:48:22 pm
For the moment it's : linuxMCE 8.10_24.0.12. An upgrade of an earlier version, because i had problems to install directly the latest version (boot dvd issues).

And you're right, i was missing the folder 'bits'.
So i've just created it, but after a full regen, it stays empty. Normal?
302  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Generic Proxy Orbiter on: August 28, 2011, 09:56:55 am
hmmm,

When i install the weborbiter, it should be reachable by a normal webbrowser as well, correct?

When i go to http://<ip-address>/lmce-admin/weborbiter.php, i receive a nice login screen. And i can select the 'child orbiter'.
Once i've done that, i've got a page with only some buttons (home-back-refresh-exit-logout) on. But i can't do anything else. When i do for example a refresh, it keeps on 'loading'...

I've also noticed, that when i do a quick reload, the core orbiter seems to crash.
Sometimes it's just a black screen, sometimes it stays on 'reconnecting to DCE router as requested'.
The remote adminpage is working correctly, but on the core screen, i can't do anything more.
When i do a hard reboot of the core, it comes back fine....
303  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Generic Proxy Orbiter on: August 28, 2011, 07:50:41 am
When i run 'netstat -an | grep 3461', this is done on the server itself.

So if the server isn't listening on this port, i assume that no other device will be capable of connection to this port. Or am i missing something?

I am open for suggestions and appropriate icons

Let's start with the suggestions, and then the icons... Wink

I've started a new topic, since i see it bigger then just power outlets.  Embarrassed

305  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / New Home Automation groups on: August 26, 2011, 11:13:27 am
Hey,

Today, almost all outputs relays (lights, power sockets...) must be in 'lights'.
Not so very clear if you're really interested in the home automation part.   Huh
Posde suggested me to do some suggestion (topic power outlet) about possible groups. So with this topic, i want to start the subject if more groups are needed, and what the best groups would be.

These are different blocks I’m thinking about. These are in my eyes different things to make your home intelligent. Most are of course just in/output relays. But I personally think it would be clearer for everyone that you can arrange your devices (relays) in these groups.

Of course, I’ll be missing some things. So feel free to add/regroup/rename/… some of them.
Once the groups are defined, I’ll see if I can put some icons behind it.

  • Inputs
Push button, on/off switch, sensor static (shock, motion, water, fire…), sensor dynamic (light, waterlevel, temperature…)

  • Lighting
Chandeliers, ceiling fixtures, outdoor lights, wall sconces, floor lights, table lamps

  • HVAC
    Heating, ventilation, air conditioning

  • Power outlet
    Stand-alone, groups

  • Entry points
    Door, window, gate, garage door

  • Window covering
    Blind, solar shades, drapery

  • Varia
    Water tap, Gas valve

Thanks for your feedback!
306  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Generic Proxy Orbiter on: August 25, 2011, 08:06:19 pm
I was able to do a full regen with the extra 'reload' at step 7.

But still no port 3461 that is listening.

To be safe, i've tried it also with a complete remove of the orbiter, and did the whole procedure again. Now with the extra reload in between. But it gives me te same result.

When i check with netstat, no port is listening on 3461.
And of course, my android phone has the result 'connection failed'. What seems normal.

Any thoughts what i could check further?

Thanks!
307  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Generic Proxy Orbiter on: August 25, 2011, 10:12:42 am
I'll give it a try this evening.

Just to be verify, can i pick in with the reload and go on.
Or is it best to delete proxy orbiter, reload/regen and recreate it all?
308  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Generic Proxy Orbiter on: August 25, 2011, 08:54:11 am

The child device is in there. And in that, i see the listen port 3461 (already tried with 3462).

I'm checking the port on a terminal in the server with the command:
Code:
netstat -an | grep 3461

Normally you should retrieve a line that says: LISTENING 3461
Mine came back empty. And since the server isn't listening...
309  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / [Solved] Generic Proxy Orbiter on: August 24, 2011, 06:40:59 pm
Hey,

I'm trying to get my android phone to be connected with linuxMCE.
I follow the procedure as seen on http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Web_Orbiter_2.0

I'm blocked on point 7.
Quote
Click the button 'Pick Device Template'. The Add Child Device Window will close, and the Generic Web Device will be added to the Core, as the updated Device Tree will show.
When i do a full regen of the specific orbiter, i got the space for the status. But no status. It seems to stop without doing anything.
A full regen of the default orbiter (fe OnScreen orbiter) is working correctly.

A bit strange to me, point 1-8 went very fast.
Quote
A new Generic Proxy Orbiter will also be created automatically. Watch the Orbiter generation process on the Orbiters page: Wizard-->Devices-->Orbiters.
When i look there, nothing special to see, a standard roaming orbiters is created.

When i check the server, nothing is listening on port 3461.
So i'm a bit stuck now...

Thanks for any hints, tips or tricks...
310  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Power outlets on: August 24, 2011, 02:38:21 pm
OK, i'll put it in there then....

Maybe for a future release this name (lighting section) can/should change?
Since home automation doesn't end with the lights (any more)...  Roll Eyes
311  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: OMG, why do you make this so difficult? on: August 24, 2011, 12:43:20 pm

I am going to have a think about how to reorganise the main page from the point of view of the new user, it could be a bit more logical I guess.

Hey Matt,

You've answered this to soon. I wanted to suggest just the same thing. Let us rebuild the whole manual stuff.
A nice startpage with different sectors (global idea, hardware, installation guides, electrical part, telephone part, media...).

The problem today i see is:
- some people speak computer languages
- some people are using for years linuxmce
- some people only want the media part, others the domotica
- nobody (this is for all IT people!) wants to write manuals
- ...
LinuxMCE is to big to explain on one A4 page (Why doesn't this sound the same on a computer?).

I've had (got) the same frustrations like many of us, new users.
I installed it several time (1 year ago i gave up). And i came back. Because i believe in the general idea of linuxmce. Mainly because today, you don't have a proper (cheap) domoticaserver. One of the reasons that the house automation doesn't come up?
Now, it's very hard to see the red line between it all.
For the moment, I finally managed to install the software on my server. I finally managed to get a light on/off. Next is an orbiter. After that some ip phones... Still need to figure out how i can add my power outlets, my playstation, how to use the orbiters...
And the hours i put in it, just to get a light bulb on... It's a bit...

A long the way, i try to write it down in steps that i can remember. Of course, this is again for me. Because i use it as such.

I think we should create a nice folder structure, with in there manuals, forum topics, the wiki pages, the faqs...
Let me know if we want to start a work group or something for this! I'm in....

ps i've got the same feeling with the forum. I think that this can also use some more detailed subgroups... Lips sealed
Maybe a subgroup for discussions about documentation? Wink
312  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Power outlets on: August 23, 2011, 04:47:34 pm
Hey,

I can find in linuxMCE a place where i can put all my lights.
But is there a specific place to add my 'power outlets'?

In my situation, i've put all my outlets behind a relay. The idea behind this is to safe power. Fe
  • when you leave your home for work, you can shut down all electric equipment.
  • when you go to sleep, shut everything, except your washing machine and so
  • You can control your fish tank (lights longer on sunday and so)...
So i want to create some scenario's where i can shut down my house with a specific button, from remote...
Is the idea that i put this is a light, or am i missing something?

Thanks!

313  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: EIB/KNX with Eibd on: August 23, 2011, 04:24:58 pm
IF you have a status link.

I suppose this is hardware related?
Or does a normal 'output relay module' also provide this kind of info (fe the Gira 103800: sch.jaloeizactor 16v/8V 16A KNX)?
314  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: EIB/KNX with Eibd on: August 23, 2011, 02:11:12 pm
So if i understand it well, i simply create 2 groups 0/0/1 and 0/0/2 in fe ETS, with each time the same relay in?

This isn't really necessary.  Embarrassed
Don't ask me why, but it works when you only put in 0/0/1...
315  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: KNX IP ROUTER 750 on: August 23, 2011, 02:09:34 pm
The problem was my EIB interface apperantly.

When i:
- removed this one
- reloaded router
- recreated it (interface > EIB interface > advance ip 127.0.0.1)
- reloaded router
- put a light switch in (controlled by EIB) > only one group address (fe 0/0/3)
- reloaded router

And YEZZZZZ, light are on/off by the test buttons...

ps i'm going to write my installation steps down as clean as possible, I'll post them shortly...
