Installation issues / [solved] 10.04 / asterisk / creating phones
« on: July 24, 2012, 03:30:56 pm »
Hey,

I'm trying to install some phones in 10.04. I've got a bunch of cisco 7940 & 7960 phones that have SIP installed on.
In LMCE, i go to 'Wizard'  > 'devices' > 'phones'.

I add following information for the first phone
  • Phonename: office
  • Location: office
  • sip password: sip
  • IP adress: 192.168.2.231
  • MAC: 11:22:33:44:55:66
The phone is properly configured.
A SIP112233445566.cnf is created.

Now i'm adding a second phone:
  • Phonename: bedroom
  • Location: bedroom
  • sip password: sip
  • IP adress: 192.168.2.232
  • MAC: 11:22:33:44:55:77

When i now check the tftpboot folder, a SIP112233445577 is created.
But the webpage seems to keep refreshing?  >:(

Next i'm checking with the command top in a console. And i see that some scripts keep returning. They disapperar, coming back...
  • db_phone_config
  • configure_cisco

And the files in the folder tftpboot are recreating the whole time?

Any idea what's going on?
Not sure what to do (beside rebooting the server)... ???

I've tried that one, and the SIP files are automaticlly generated in the /tftpboot/ folder.

But my phones aren't ringing when i've got an incoming call, nor can i dial out. In the "call details records", i can see calls coming in, and the are answered automaticlly. So at least the server is recieving the correct phone number. ;)

Is it normal that it takes a very long time to refresh the page once i added a phone? Takes about 3 minutes before i can add a second phone...

ps pitty that you can't assign own numbers. Today, it jumps from 201 towards 315 and so. Not very easy to remember... :$

to manage  password can you go to  phones  on lmce-admin

Ahh,

I thought this was controlled by 'asterisk', so that it was best not to touch the phoneconfig in lmce...

I hope that the rest will follow soon. So we can start creating phonegroups and so on...

I have create a script to configure  cisco 7940 as a sccp
but  the correct url  is not /admin/   is /lmce-admin/
your  10.04  us updated ?

Hey,

I'm running the latest 1004, and in there, i don't have /admin anymore.  :(
Before, this was the admin page of asterisk.

Today (1004), i've got pluto-admin and lmce-admin. Both are the adminpages of LinuxMCE.

But beside to limited pages for adding a phone, i can't find anything else.
Like for example, where can i check my phone status or change the SIP password... Where can i add phone groups?

Hey,

I can't figure out how i must add phone (sip phone cisco 7940) in 1004.
Is there something like the admin page of asterisk? When i go to Advanced > Configuration > Phones setup, i've got an "The requested URL /admin/ was not found on this server."
When i check the folder /var/www, i don't have anything related asterisk.

Is this a small bug? Or am i overlooking something?  ???

maybe more to do with your ATI...
You're right with this one.
After resetting the BIOS, removing additional cards (audio, network...), using an USB keyboard/mouse and swapping the memory, i tried changing the ATI card.

And yep, the installation ran without any hassle.
Why is it always the last thing you try that works? ;)

Server is running now version 1004-20120701130826149 on a SSD.
The day after tomorrow i can start configuring it. Looking forward to the new things in LinuxMCE...

Very nice install iso !!!

Thanks

Which option are you choosing on the boot screen - i.e. install type?

I've tried 4 options. Each time it's the same error. This happens really quick. So i guess it's a hardware related issue. I'll try to have more info this evening (with the tip of l3mce (ctrl-alt-f7...)

I'm in the office now, so no access to the machine. But if i'm not wrong, these were following options:
  • LinuxMCE live
  • LinuxMCE core + MD
  • LinuxMCE headless
  • Failsafe

On the side:
  • Not sure what the headless is. Maybe this could be integrated in the installation screen?
A small explanation, what-to-choose on the bottom (or F1, or ...)?
  • Maybe another option could be a kind of verbose installation option?
That you don't have the graphical screen / status bar (what i love by the way), but a complete view of installations files, checks...?

I'm not sure if this possible, i don't have enough software knowledge for that.  :-X

Hey, i've tried:

  • LMCE-1004-20120623013626110.iso (written on DVD and USB stick)
  • LMCE-1004-20120701130826149.iso

Everything boots well (after pushing enter at 'boot:'). I've got the menu where i can choose which version i want to install. But once the status balk starts, it freeze. The balk is at 70% and doens't do anything anymore. I've left it for about 30 minutes, but even the numlock led isn't doing anything anymore.
Only thing i can do is a hard reset.

Some hardware info:
  • Motherboard: MICRO-STAR MS-7519
  • Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     E7400  @ 2.80GHz
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Hard drive: SSD 60GB
  • Video: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350]
  • Audio: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller
  • Network 1: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
  • Network 2: 3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado]
  • Video Capture: Brooktree Corporation Bt848 Video Capture
  • CD Reader: IDE DVD writer

I've also tried the installation on a SATA2 1TB disk.

Any idea/hint?

ps linuxMCE 8.10 runs fine on this system (except video capture what i don't really use (for the moment))...

there are no major roadblocks on 1004 atm. Especially asterisk is, imho, way better working than before. Especially as we no longer rely on FreePBX. If you have more questions, please open a thread in the users section.

OK, 1004 it will be...

I'll keep you informed (in a proper post of course) if i encounter any issues... ;)

Thanks!

For the moment i'm on 8.10. But recently i've broken something. I was playing around with the phone system (i needed some extra add-ons), and did some things i better didn't. I've got some sites running on it, and everything is starting to run slow, very slow. A lot of python scripts keep on running, msyql 'to-many-connections'...

I'm thinking or reinstalling the whole server. But since i did some homemade scripts (for backups and so), i'm going to install it on a new disk (thinking of SSD). And later on, i simply put the disk of 1TB with all my data behind the SSD.

Is everything working in the 1004? Or are there still mayor gaps (fe no telephony)?
I don't mind the small things, if we can solve them with a workaround, no prob. But if there are big issues, i prefer to stay on 8.10.

I don't want to upgrade/reinstall the whole system each x months... Or i must say, my girlfriend don't want this. She is sick of it that i'm bringing down the house for 1 week till everything is back ok...

What do you guys advice me to use? The 1004? Or still the 8.10?

Users / Respond to events (howto?)
« on: April 15, 2012, 05:05:39 pm »
Hey,

It's been a while since i tried to configure my linuxmce more in detail.
I can control all lights with my server. So this part is covered (output relays).
Next step is my lightbuttons in house. But for this, i don't know how i can see if linuxmce is picking up the signal from the button. I'm playing around with 'respond to events', but i've got the feeling that this isn't working as it should be. Do you need to do something special for the events? Is there anything where i need to pay attention to?

I've tried following 4 scenario's:

Scenario 1:
   Event: A sensor is tripped
   What device: Button 0/0/35
   What time of day: DAY
   Trigger: Tripped = 1
Command: lighting wizard: Light 0/2/15 ON

Scenario 2:
   Event: Someone rings the doorbell
   What device: Button 0/0/35
Command: lighting wizard: Light 0/2/15 ON

Scenario 3: Test Phone (ip phones are working perfectly with the system)
   Event: there's an incoming call
   Which phone: PhoneA
   What time of day: DAY
Command: lighting wizard: Light 0/2/15 ON

Scenario 4: Test DeviceOn
Event: A device is turned on
   What device: Light 0/2/15
   Event ON/OFF = 1
Command: lighting wizard: light 0/2/16 & 0/2/17 ON

ps with a command line, i can activate 0/2/15 in the correct way. So my interconnection between the server and my domotica (eib) is working...

Users / 'Blank' passwords
« on: February 23, 2012, 10:31:06 am »
Hey,

I searched a bit, but couldn't find a straight answer.
How (and what's the risk) to change the default 'blank' password?

The database user is using a blank password, as well as the asterisk admin.
Can i just change this password? Or will it have impact on other stuff as well?

I was thinking about changing:
  • mysql user root
  • /etc/pluto.conf
  • asterisk admin user
  • ...

Reason for all this is that of course it's not very secure to use 'blank' password. And lately, a lot of software don't allow 'blank' passwords (fe phpmyadmin) by default...

For the moment, i've solved this by changing /etc/samba/smb.conf from:

Code: [Select]
[home]
        browsable = yes

to
Code: [Select]
[home]
        browsable = no

And a quick reload of the samba server (sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart) solved my problem.
I just hope that nothing else will encounter issues now...
