Installation issues / Installation drops direct to initramfs
« on: July 13, 2011, 07:38:26 pm »
Hey,

When i'm trying one of the latest versions (24147 & 24164), the installation stops almost directly into a prompt 'initramfs'. The only thing i can choose is the language and the next question (linuxmce, kubuntu...). I tried linuxmce or kubuntu, but both give the same result.
When i take an old version (fe 24012), the installation starts without any problem.

Any idea what goes wrong?

Installation issues / {extif} for second interface
« on: June 26, 2011, 04:43:19 pm »
Hey,

I'm having troubles with my 2 network cards. These are 2 build in ones on a Dell poweredge server.

  • In the config, the first one (WAN) is tagged as {extif}, and doesn't get a IP from my provider. The second one (LAN) is seen correctly (fixed ip on eth0).
    So this isn't working.
  • When i now swap the cables and chooes 'swap interfaces', my new WAN-port is tagged as eth0 and gets a proper IP from the provider.
The second one is now tagged as {extif} with a fix ip.

So it's working in situation 2, but i suppose that something isn't 100% correct here.
Any thoughts on it?

Feature requests & roadmap / Velbus: CAN bus
« on: December 22, 2010, 10:09:06 am »
Hey,

A really nice (and not so expensive) domotica system is Velbus. It has been created by Velleman. Checkout http://www.velbus.eu
They've got almost a solution for all systems, and even a software center.
But this software center is 'too' expensive.
Once you like the opensource software world... ;)

Velbus is working on the system 'CAN bus'.
And i'm thinking to see how i can implement this in linuxMCE.

Is it difficult to do this?
Or is anybody willing to have look a it?

Installation issues / Dell PowerEdge 850; fresh install
« on: December 19, 2010, 11:55:08 am »
Hey,

I'm trying to install the latest version of LinuxMCE (8.10-23535-i386) on a dell server.
First installation goes fine, but once i've got the desktop, i'm lost.

I can't find anywhere what tot do. Just a script on the desktop where i can run 'linuxMCE'.
A script starts to run, and after a while, i got an error 'Error - KdeSudo,   Command not found!'.
Only thing i can do is click 'OK'. The script goes on, but 'holds/freeze'.
I've got also the idea that some things aren't found to install (internet issue?). But the scripts runs on, so i think it's not a big issue?

Any idea what i can/must do now?

ps is it normal that in the boot menu of the cd, the options 'install kubuntu' and 'install linuxmce' gives the same result?  ???

Installation issues / Internal calls
« on: October 08, 2009, 06:09:16 pm »
Hey,

Like you can read in another topic, i had some issues to get some cisco phones 7940 up and running. I think that i managed it now. They're registred with SIP and a new template. On the phone itself, i've got nicely a SIP screen with an extension (phone 1 = 201, phone 2 = 202). And in the admin site, i see them under the section 'Devices' - 'Phones'. Everything went nicely through the Oribiter screen (found no phone, reload router....).

But now my problem, i can't call from one phone to the other one.

Do i need to add some additional config? Like a dialplan or something? Or is this done automaticlly?
Has somebody a good walkthrough for this?  ???

Installation issues / Cisco 7940
« on: September 24, 2009, 11:15:00 am »
Hey,

I'm trying to have a cisco phone 7940 working on LinuxMCE 710...

I follow this article as a guide line.
I think that the article is for an older release, possible?

For the MAC's, i tried to insert 00:15:13:00:00:00 till 00:15:14:00:00:00. After i apply, it change towards 151? Any suggestion what could go wrong?
Is it necessary to use the dhcp? Can't i fix the phone? If so, must i put in a tftp, cm...?

ps will i have problems when i try to use the 7970 template for a 7940?  :-[

Feature requests & roadmap / Demo Server
« on: September 23, 2009, 10:57:26 am »
Maybe a kind of demo server on the net?
This way, people can log in to the administration page, have a look around...
A screen like they can have on their orbiter, pocketpc...

And if there are any people with great knowledge of java (or so), and layout that you can actually light on or light off things...

Installation issues / Cancel the Wizard?
« on: September 23, 2009, 10:51:43 am »
Hey,

Just tried to install LinuxMCE 7.10 on a 1HU server.

The installation started well, just a 'bug' when he tries to find the right BIOS drivers. But a few moments later, he tells me that the installation is finished. So i reboot then the machine, and the wizard starts.

In here, i select 1024 x 768 for my screen resolutions (works great) and no audio.
Then Sarah (?) comes to tell me congratulation. But since i don't have audio, i don't hear her...  :P
But then i tried to say next, and nothing happens. Cancel the wizard gives the same result. When i hit a bunch of keys, sometimes the 'admin window' of linux comes up. But later on, back in the wizard.
I tried to reboot it several times (2 times), but same result, back in the wizard.
Maybe an issue is that the buttons (next, cancel, repeat...) aren't on the right, but more in the middle. At first sight i want to see that the resolution isn't correctly lined up? So maybe i just push next to the buttons (i actually try that also)...

Any idea how i can bypass her? Sorry Sarah...

Since this machine will be used as a server somewhere in a cabinet, i don't need to have video/audio/... things on it. Or i'm a wrong?

Some things about the hardware:
- CPU: P IV 2,5
- Memory: 4GB
- Disks: 2x72GB SCSI RAID
- Audio: none
- Video: ATI Rage XL SVGA
