Installation issues / Update went wrong?
« on: November 07, 2012, 07:08:13 pm »
Hey,

Just (2012-11-07) did an 'apt-get upgrade', and several things where updated for linuxcme (fe i saw a lot of things on the db and website).

But when i now restart the server, it's in a kind of loop.
  • In the begin, i see that he's has problems with the network interface. And from another machine i'm not able to reach it anymore.
  • The server itself keeps on retrying to connect with the DCErouter. I'm not able to connect with cli (fe with alt-f2).

I've connected another harddisk (with a working linuxmce from last week), and this one starts up fine.
So somewhere their went something wrong with the network drivers.
Any idea how i can 'bypass'/restore this?

Users / Disk size incorrect / disk full?
« on: October 29, 2012, 03:15:40 pm »
Hey,

I've got a small SSD card (60GB) for my operation system.
I thought this would be enough to run LinuxMCE, but it seems that something is eating my size away...

I can't find who takes the gigs away. Any idea how i can troubleshoot this?

Don't know if it has something to do with it, but in /tmp/ i see a lot the folder StorageDevices_StatusRadar.temp.mount.xxxxxxx for a short time. But i think it's normal behavoir?

When i search for big files (+250MB) i can only find the log files that go sometimes up to 2,2G (only 4 files).

ps disk /mnt/device/350 is my data disk of 1TB. And all data (video, documents, pictures, websites...) are located on this disk.

Users / Pluto_media over 5,5GB?
« on: October 29, 2012, 12:38:59 pm »
Hey,

I see that my pluto_media database is over 5,5GB big.
3.711.641 records is a bit much, no?  :-X

Any idea how i can/should solve this? Can i simply 'empty' the data?
I'm very low on diskspace for the moment, so every gig is welcome...

Installation issues / [SOLVED] Phone line goes down?
« on: October 25, 2012, 02:39:46 pm »
Hey,

Outgoing phones work perfect.

Incoming phones work perfect. For a while.

It's like after some time, the incoming calls are 'blocked'. My providers (WeePee) server says that the number isn't registered.
But when i trigger an outgoing call, the incoming calls are working again.

Is there somewhere a kind of timeout that needs to be retriggered?

I've seen (with webmin) that a new version of lmce-asterisk was available. And like a good user, i've updated it to the latest version.  :-\
But somewhere along the way, it "crashes" my whole system.

After some searching, i found out with 'top' that mysqld was using all resources?
And a lot of 'cisco' scripts were running?

I've moved following files so it couldn't be run anymore:
  • /usr/pluto/bin/configure_cisco_phone.pl
  • /usr/pluto/bin/db_phone_config.sh

I know it's not a proper solution, but my system is back available, and my phones are still working.
If somebody wants me to test something, let me know...

I'm now on:

Hey,

I'm giving the Diskless MD another try. But when i run the script (diskless_createtbz.sh), it ends with an error.
Any idea what's going wrong?

Feature requests & roadmap / Status / overview page?
« on: October 10, 2012, 07:57:02 am »
Maybe it would be nice to have somewhere a status page with different kind of information?
Could be a nice orbiter page?

  • Date of today
  • Actual hour
  • MOTD
  • Temperature of today <<<Not sure that it belongs on a dashboard page>>>
  • Forcast weather
  • Sunrise/sunset
  • Active lights
  • Tripped sensors
  • Local news / headlines <<<Not sure that it belongs on a dashboard page>>>
  • Server statistics
  • Number of movies, music, pictures...
  • Server Networking
  • ...

I've started a webpage that gathers all this information a bit: http://oniriabe.dyndns.org:1111/status
Let me know if there are other intresting things to put on this page.
The thing above in color are already covered.

Suggestions are more then welcome. I'm not a programmer but a netwerk engineer.
So everything is a bit try-and-error, copy/paste... ;)

Once everything is added/checked... i can start with a more proper layout.
And of course, it's better to integrate this into the administration pages, and not public...

If you want to try/have it:

  • Download: http://oniriabe.dyndns.org:1111/packages/status.tgz
    To a webfolder (fe /var/www/status/)
  • Unzip it with 'tar -zxvf status.tgz'
  • Browse to it (fe http://192.168.80.1/status)

  • The module phpsysinfo can be installed with 'sudo apt-get install phpsysinfo'
But isn't mandatory for this page. On the other hand, gives you nice information about your hardware.
Just create a symbolic link in your folder to it: "sudo ln -s /usr/share/phpsysinfo phpsysinfo"

Users / [SOLVED] 'Hide' the tnj-files in network share
« on: October 06, 2012, 08:51:33 am »
Hey,

Linuxmce is created tnj files of all images. No problem so far.
But it's a bit annoying when you browse your files, all these tnj-files are also shown.

Is there a way to make them hidden?

Users / Diskspace (usr/pluto/bin/year/month/da...)
« on: October 03, 2012, 11:22:15 am »
Hey,

My OS disk (60GB) was getting full.
So the server crashed because of this.

I found out that this was because of a kind of screenshots from one or another camera/videostreaming.
All images were put in /usr/pluto/bin/2012/10/03/... (see att for example). Also some videstreams were generated.
The folder was about 30GB big.

Can anybody help me out what is generating these 'snapshots'?
Since the pictures don't show anything 'reasonable', i don't think it's usefull. :$

ps I temporarly moved/linked the folder to another disk so the system is kept running.

Feature requests & roadmap / Different Screensavers
« on: September 16, 2012, 12:03:18 pm »
Today, the screensaver shows pictures of flick. Nice, but not what i really want to see.

Maybe it would be nice to show some interesting stuff of the system itself?
This way, the screensaver is not only a screensaver, but also a usefull tool...

I'm thinking of
  • Images of the surveillance camera's
  • Floorplans of the house with status of outputs (lights, power outlets...)
  • Floorplans of the house with security sensors
  • Health of the server (disk, cpu, mem...)
  • Other images (fe Weathermaps of cacti)
  • ....

Installation issues / PC as Media Director (PXE)
« on: September 13, 2012, 05:41:54 pm »
Hey,

Is there somewhere a good manual/wiki that describe how to setup a media director?
Just bought a small and silent motherboard (MSI-E350I1-E45) for my livingroom.  No harddisk, only the motherboard and a DVD reader.

In LinuxMCE, i've added a Media Director, inserted the IP and MAC.
And waiting till the compilation is done.

When i now boot it PXEboot, everything boots well (in my eyes).
But it ends with a login prompt? With the 'hostname': Moon352.
I suspected a nice LinuxMCE orbiter screen or simular.

Did i do anything wrong? Or am I missing something?  :-\

ps for testing, i'm using a VGA connection instead of the HDMI output. But i suppose that this won't be an issue?

Users / Motion GUI
« on: September 11, 2012, 02:40:22 pm »
If i'm not wrong, linuxmce works with motion to take snapshot of the IP-camera's.
I'm wondering if there exist a tool/gui to give us more control on this.
Or can you see this already?

fe Personally i'm interested to see the pictures that were taken.

Users / Mediatomb & PS3 give some folder issues
« on: September 10, 2012, 10:45:09 am »
Hey,

I can nicely play media from my LinuxMCE with a Playstation3.
The only thing that's a bit annoying is the level of folders.
Playstations limits the folder depth (i thought 7?).

So when i now browse, i've got:
Code: [Select]
LinuxMCE/home/public/data/videos/932G\ ST31000340AS\ \(sdb2\)\ on\ dc\ \[350\]/Series/SomeSerie
So this is /1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8

Media in level 7 (Series) are playable.
Media in level 8 (SomeSerie) isn't reachable anymore.

Is there (of course there is  ;) ) a way to limit this a bit?
That for example i've got a symbolic link that maps LinuxMCE/home/public/data/videos/932G\ ST31000340AS\ \(sdb2\)\ on\ dc\ \[350\]  to LinuxMCE/videos

What's the best way for this?

Feature requests & roadmap / News flash
« on: September 05, 2012, 07:17:42 am »
Maybe a nice feature would be that a LinuxMCE "administrator" could send a kind of news flash that's pushed to all LinuxMCE installation?

Today, when you log in with ssh, you see from time to time update messages. Mostly i do this, but i'm always afraid that i can/will break something with this. For examply the message "New release precise available". I've seen on this forum that this will break the system?! So luckly i've seen the message? But i think that not everyone is looking each time all posts on the forum.

So maybe it would be nice that we can see a message from 'linuxMCE' that this is a bad idea?
This could also be used for mayor updates messages, new features...?

The message could/should appear when you login with ssh.
And maybe also on the admin page, an orbiter... ?

fe after log in with ssh

Users / Why are you using LinuxMCE?
« on: September 04, 2012, 01:56:11 pm »
I'm a bit curious what most of you are using on LinuxMCE.
Through a lot of forum posts, i've got the impression that gaming and media is a big feature. Personally i'm using none of that. For me, home automation is the biggest intrest. But i'm sure that everybody has his flavor?
You can choose 3 answers if you want.  :-\

Let me know if any LinuxMCE tools are missing...

For others, i should also add Cacti and Joomla.
But since this isn't in LinuxMCE, only running on the same machine it's a bit hard to put it in the list.
