Installation issues / Network IP Camera
« on: December 26, 2009, 10:16:34 pm »
Does anyone have a D-Link DCS-5300W network camera attached to the system. If yes, how? I have plugged it in and connected via a network cable. The camera has been reset. I cannot see it and the LinuxMCE does not show new devices detected. It is not getting an IP, as far as I can tell and I cannot log into it. I have other D-Link cameras, such as DCS-900W and would like to make use of them. Any thoughts?

Well, I am now at least getting IP and can log into the camera through a browser from Win 7. Should I be able to see the camera output on the "admin page" - view cameras?

Thanks.

Installation issues / LMCE constantly scanning network share.
« on: December 25, 2009, 05:55:49 am »
I have an unRAID array housing all of my video / music collection, in addition to acting as a backup for all of my PCs in the house. It seems that LMCE is constantly accessing unRAID drives, not letting them spin down. I want to be able to access the data on the array, but only when I want it. How can I disable LMCE from constantly accessing the drives of the unRAID array? Should I completely remove unRAID from the devices? What are my options?

Installation issues / LMCE 8.10 update
« on: December 06, 2009, 12:21:19 am »
This may seem like a redundant question, but…

I am primarily interested in the ability to stream high definition content, such as MKVs. As it is now, the original LMCE 8.10 is not pulling it, but from what I understand the updates should help with this in the future. My question is – should I upgrade to the current updates available? Are these the updates that are necessary for that functionality?

If I already have 8.10 on my core what is the best way to upgrade it to the latest build?

Do I need to do anything different with my MD, or will the upgrade on the core simply “fix” the MD install as well?

Thanks,

Lev

Users / 8.10 URL Logging feature?
« on: November 16, 2009, 09:31:02 pm »
Is there a feature in MCE 8.10 that allows me to track the URL requests from various PCs connected internally? In other words, I want to see all URLs requested from different machines, a feature I think is called URL logging in routers.

Installation issues / Setting up Core – MDs.
« on: October 12, 2009, 05:56:35 am »
I had an interesting experience so far setting up my Core / MD units. My Core has been up and running for about a week now, with no major problems. One of my Win 7 machines keeps loosing its IP, but I think that that is isolated to that one as all of my other PCs and Macs are doing OK.

For the last several days I have been trying to set up a second LinuxMCE machine, on a Zatac 330 platform. I could not install 7.10 successfully, but was able to install 8.10 on it before, when I first started playing with MCE. This time however, I could not get the 8.10 to go through the process of updating itself to MCE no matter what I did. I tried reinstalling the OS from CD several times, and then going through the steps of upgrading, only to get the same errors that some of the components could not be downloaded, and the update process would constantly hang.  ??? That is until I tried one thing.

I took out the Core out of the loop completely, and connected the new PC directly to the cable modem. It installed and upgraded in one easy step…  :D I am not sure why, but it seems that the Core “running” my network was somehow interfering with the new PC’s download process… If anyone has other thoughts, please – I would love to hear them, as I have one more Zotac based PC that I will set up. If I do not have to take out the Core, at least for the original OS install, that would be nice.

My second question is – do I need to disable the Core function on the new Zotac PC that will act as an MD only? It has one NIC. I saw that there is an option on my 7.10 to disable the Core and leave the MD to load at startup.

Sorry for the long history, but I thought it was interesting to me, and maybe can help someone else.  :-[

Installation issues / Accessing home network
« on: September 21, 2009, 09:40:05 pm »
I recently installed a LinuxMCE 810 on a Zotac A-U board. My home network has mostly PCs, but also a Mac and an unRAID for centralized storage. All of the computers are on the same "home" network and can see the unRAID, except LinuxMCE. When I go to KDE desktop I can find the share and browse it. However, I cannot seem to see that same share from the LinuxMCE MD desktop. Please be mindful that I a Linux novice.

Thanks for your help.
