i'm using the ion n230's which work great, not sure about others.

What are you going to do for lighting, thermostat, alarm, etc...

make sure you wire everything, overwire, whatever wire, cat6 wire, quadruple wire, KNX wire, whatever, make sure you got it in there before closing the walls.

Well going overboard there, but you got my drift, you can pretty much send anything over cat6 now, so make sure you have extra lines.

if the closet is big enough, why not put everything in there and use some hdmi-cat6 converters to drive you tv's and/or ir/rs232
i know that's my ultimate goal.

Raginglinx,

I would advise you to make a "small" install in your current house/apartment and start playing with it. As all what you asked for is possible, it does not mean that everything is currently in "working" state and you might have to put some effort in to make Templates, make sure all plc devices work and possibly port the touch orbiter to that display.

So buy some of the basic necessities now and start "testing" so you final home install will be a breeze for you,

it's not a full install script, but a script that decides what version is best for your setup

the original would see that 260 is not available and NOT install 195 instead.

With this "new" nivida-install.sh it will correctly default to the 195 driver

tunebob, do you see anything in the logs that might help troubleshoot?

blindeye and possibly others, there is no driver configured in your xorg.conf
best thing to do is to drop to a tty and run nvidia-xconfig then reboot

if that didn't work you can try and pass AVWizard add both

AVWizardDone = 1
AVWizardOverride = 0

don't forget the spaces, you will have to setup the core and/or md in webadmin and regen orbiter.
There are a few settings that need to be done.

here is a write up of mine, when i tested bypassing the AVWizard, this is not recommended though!!!!!!!

Code:
With latest snapshot of 22 Dec 2010 version 0810

All of this is done in a virtualbox vm.........

Installed kubuntu 0810
clicked the install button on the desktop

After install got done.......
**** Before rebooting added the following in /etc/pluto.conf ****
  AVWizardOverride = 0
  AVWizardDone = 1

Reboot

Install went as normal and got into the setup wizard with Sarah, just no sound
setup screen looked to be at about a 640x480 resolution at this point for the wizard
Also noticed that it did a regen orbiter before getting to sarah

After Setup Wizard let everything download and install before i clicked "start using the system"

Another Orbiter regen and i had an onscreen orbiter
The orbiter was in the left top corner and looked to be about a 640x480 resolution
  Sound is not working
When i went to Computing----Webadmin i got a full screen window with webadmin at my monitors resolution (1280x1024), so the orbiter was smaller than the actual screen resolution.

Webadmin
  Media Director settings top window
    - No Connector set
    - No Audio settings
    - No Video settings
    - No TV Standard set
  bottom settings
    - No Audio settings selected
    - Sound card was set to "Standard Sound Card"
    - Video Card was set to "Standard Video Card"
    - Hardware acceleration was set to "xv"
    - Deinterlace Quality was set to "None"

  Orbiter settings
    - Everything looked the same as a "working install" except for
the Reduce image by % field was empty

Made all the settings the same as on my "working core" with similar numbers and regenerated orbiter

Had to reboot and got full screen orbiter

Flickr screensaver was fully active

Playing a movie in mpeg, wmv and avi format worked with sound
Playing music as mp3 and ogg worked
Pictures worked

I tested stereo sound only, but it worked as advertised

Tunebob, have you updated to the latest updates?

I still use the same setup i had the issues with, but deleted all my AV devices and started again, now it's fine.

Tunebob, i have seen this behaviour myself, my current setup doesn't do it though.

This might sound strange, but do you have any usb devices hooked up to the core? if you do, could you try unhooking those trying again (maybe a reboot).
This is just a test, not sure if it is related at all, just try it.

39  LinuxMCE / Developers / Re: Los93soL Android Touch Orbiter on: December 23, 2010, 04:25:51 pm
Hey, i setup my orbiter with the android orbiter and it worked great, now however when i start the orbiter it stays in the splash screen and will not time-out.

Is it possible to make the "options" (left) button abort the program and going into the settings. I'm thinking it can't find the address and keeps trying, so i would like to change the settings, but there is no way to get in it.

40  LinuxMCE / Developers / Re: creating CM19A device on: December 21, 2010, 04:48:55 pm
valent, doing a revert my CM19A was deleted and i never finished it, i'll try to use the CM15 template and see if it's working

I also only have lights, so i cannot test the CM19A with cameras or other stuff if i happen to finish the device.

mythified, i think you meant to say #linuxmce-devel just wanted to make sure you have the right channel

Mandingo, possy, Tschak are all people you can talk too when testing.

no poll vote from me, but what TSCHAK said......................

So if something is already playing and i click on another media, it should queue, i would make this the "default action" and currently just leave it to being able to turn this off in the webadmin.

It would be nice to have certain options like these available through the media browser options, so it's not necessary to go to the webadmin.

43  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Snapshot on: December 05, 2010, 05:14:19 pm
Raybe, as far as i understand the snapshots have the latest and greatest in them. when you do an update upgrade you get all the "committed" changes as you can see on the changelog.

So short answer for you is.... yes

you need the drivers for the audio card, and probably have to rebuild alsa to include them, sounds like what purps said (major pain in the ...)
