Installation issues / Re: Can LinuxMCE 8.10 run only as core?
« on: December 12, 2010, 08:29:51 pm »
I think that if you edit the pluto.conf file and find the AutostartMD line( I am doing this from memory so it may not be exact) and set it to 0 then only the core will be running after a reboot.  Make sure you have an MD running elsewhere otherwise you will not get notifications of new hardware installed and the like.

Would you be interested in text files that captured the output of my failed attempt at installing lmce over 10.04?  I am not asking for help.  I am just trying to pass on info if you want it.

Not really. We've got tons of logs of failed attempts ourselves atm :) But feel free to come by in the irc -devel channel, and work with us by testing the stuff over and over, and giving live feedback.

When do you usually get together to do this?

Whoops.  I did not mean to imply that the port actually disappeared. Thx for the reply

Having the port disappear due to removing the dongle was not my case.  The machine would see the dongle early in the day.  I could watch the log as devices were polled/responding then later in the evening a light would fail to turn on on schedule or by event.  The dongle had not been removed during that time.  I would look at the logs and see no activity.  I could not control lights.  i would have to reboot the machine for the dongle to start working again.  Whether the usb ports were going to sleep or something else was going on I could not determine.  After playing with it for a while I decided to move to a different motherboard, Asus A8N32SLI.  Something I had laying around and have not had that problem again.  I never pursued the problem further.  I presently am using the board as a mythtv server and have little to no trouble from it.  Of course I am not using the usb ports either.

what board did you buy?

Oh FFS, guess which one I've just bought for 50 quid.

It was literally the only full ATX AM2 mobo I could find. Oh that's really fecked me off.

I know what you mean.  It was the only one I could find that had 3 pci slots in it that was reasonably priced.  I realized I had a problem when some lights did not come on when they were scheduled to.

The system never went into suspend mode.  It was always awake.  Just the usb ports would start working and the only thing that would recover them was a reboot although I don't believe I tried the lsusb command at the time.

Purps, go ahead and try it.  You have the board now and maybe your experience will be different.

Completely understood.  I am not going to install over top of my working 810 machine on a whim.  I have the extra hardware and am merely curious.  I look forward to the beta.

I did not pursue this too much.  I decided to turn it in to a mythtv box since I was not using the usb ports.  There may be a solution out there for this but as I said I never pursued it.

Hi,

will there be a way to do a update from LinuxMCE 8.10 to 10.04?

Regards
Johannes

I think you may be jumping the gun a bit.  This is not ready for prime time and should not expect a way to update between the two versions yet.

Thx J. for the info.

I read this today:  Best regards Peer Oliver Schmidt Release Manager LinuxMCE Ohhhh, and one more thing: Preliminary support 1004 is available. This is more than bleeding edge. svn download the new-installer on a 1004 install, and see what happens.

I went to svn.linuxmce.org/svn and did not find the installer.  Is there a different address?

Thx

Does it come back when you reboot the computer?  I have an ASRock mobo that usb ports would go to sleep.  So it would appear that my lighting interfaces had quit working.  Just one experience I had.

Or you could read this sticky post. http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=3931.0  Or it could be that your installation  media is compromised due to the version of kubuntu you are using is obsolete.  If the previous posts link and the link I am providing don't help then you might consider reinstalling with an earlier version of linuxmce snapshot.  I use 23388 but since you are connected to the hdmi output and they are not auto detected the vga output is probably the one that is active and your problem is what is stated in the info provided in these links.

I am curious as to why the pluto.conf file was truncated.  Does it get overwritten each time there is a reload router?
