LinuxHome would be better than LinuxMCE.  I wish I was half way decent at graphics design, I would put a penguin sitting on a house with a silly grin and a remote in its hand.

I started using this system to get out of "DVD hell". We always had DVD's all over the place that the kids would destroy. I chose LMCE over others solely because of the automation capability.  My family is now relying on the automation portion of the system more than the media portion.

I agree with the name
but.......why not a google type of name

homel, home linux
lhome linux home
lome linux home
etc
etc

I am from the Netherlands, I eat Weed, I smoke Tulips, and plant Hookers in my garden. But do not step on my wooden shoes, because I will, dancing on Tiesto, throw cheese at you.

No... that isn't it.

You haven't made it yet. As I am graphically challenged I am asking for the LMCE communities help. We are working on a new branded lmce install dvd, and I need a 640x480 .png which looks awesome. My sense of design is stuck in 1992, so this, I thought, would be a great way for folks to contribute. Please look at the above image to get a sense of the menu/title. It is trapped there for all intents and purposes. No I cannot put it at the bottom or on the side. It goes there. There may be more options added, so leave some room underneath for a few more entries.

I thought if we got some submissions I would make a poll for people to vote on what we like best. I think this is a cool opportunity to contribute something for those who don't code, and even those who do. At the end of the day, you must release this image as GPL for use with LinuxMCE... so no grifting OK? Original work only please.

You are also free to make a bootloader image like phenigmas... You don't have to go full boat and make an actual bootloader package... but are welcome to. I am happy using phenigmas... I like it... but some have held reservations about poor little tux being a bit played out and dominating... or sort of out of place. Again, I love the little guy, and the ONLY official images he had to work with are loungetux. That is another thing... please make the logo you come up with a layer so we can use it elsewhere if you are struck with lightning.

Feel free to submit as many as you like. Try to remember though... this will be the first thing everyone who installs sees on their screen... so pretending we are professional is probably the best tack. So... show us what you got! You will not get any discouraging remarks.

Good idea, alas I am also graphically challenged (also on other fields), but the person who can draw a LinuxMCE pinguin with a giant Bongo, has my vote. Maybe we can even make it 3d, so the bongo really comes towards you.

That's maybe why a blog (with rss) could be interesting?
Fe if somebody has created a new skin, this could be posted on that blog. Or fe a nice howto to add a ip-phone. Or ...

Not really official 'news', but i think that a lot of guys are interested in these kind of things?
And could be interesting to have more 'testers' / feedback?

Maybe add svn updates to a rss-feed?

Peace dude... and calm  8)

There's caring mocking and evil mocking - sometimes in writing telling the difference is impossible...
btw: users get attracted or is put off by a number of reasons, the tone on the main board is in my opinion actually quite important to keep people on board - we should be nice and polite - but at the same time there should be "rummelighed" (a danish word not easily translateable to any language, googles best shot is spaciousness - but it all about sentiment), thus leaving room for all kinds of behaviour/people:

1. Those that has poor language skills like myself.
2. Those taht spel por
2. Those that can't count.
3. Those that ask silly questions.
4. Those that gives silly answers.
5. Those that use sarcasm.
6. Those that are put off by sarcasm.
7. Those that needs to blow out steam.
8. Those that gives long boring answers to something that is water under the bridge, and do so in the shape of lists....

I hope you get my point - actually my own moral standard only allows me to mock those I believe to be strong/knowledgeable... Meaning it's a weird display of respect. But that's just me. There where, I am sure, no intent to put you down or annoy - just to also throw in a bit of relaxed comments. Posde does this from time to time :)

I hope you got the frustration out - and feel motivated to continue working with this "waste of time" and "butt f****** ugly" system  ;) I for one loves the challenge and the possibilities.

You just described me in 8 simple sentences, you stupid lego-eater.

Maybe an idea to bring a kind of newsletter in the scope?
This way, new plug-ins/versions/skins/nice-to-know/... -things can be better announced?

Personally i want to stay up to date about new evolutions.
It's a bit hard to go each time through the wiki's, the site, the forum to see if anything is changed.

Of course, different ways are possible:
  • mailing
  • blog/rss (think this can be the best way?)
  • updates over fb/twitter
  • ...

We do have the news on www.linuxmce.org, which I also post in the forum.
But to be honest, there isn't so much news that we need to twitter it. The development is slow, but steady. I see no advantage in twittering that I made another bongojoke and golgoj4 laughed and updated 3 bits of code.

I think the wiki is no place for news.

If you give to much updates, people are not interested or get the wrong expectations.

Here is source http://www.mediafire.com/file/a3fab514ak9xgrs/Translator.7z
nothing evil inside... maybe only some bad coding habits and lack of sleep(I have finals right now).

Well I like your open approach on my remarks, but again this download gives me a positive virus scanner. Javascript trojan.
I hope it is just me.
Thanks for sharing.

This is the second thread you have put this in, and bongowongo detected a virus. You say your protections say it is clean... but if you wrote it... why would you need to verify it is safe?

Not saying you are doing something weird... many AVs throw false positives... but... can I just have the source code?

How is this tool expected to integrate into LMCE? What is it?
1 scanner told me it had a virus, other virus scanner said nothing (differnt computers). If someone could verify?
Could be false positive.

I aligned the boxes by putting the overview section into a similar box as the support and development stuff. I'd like to get a gap between them, but haven't worked that out yet. Hope that's OK with everybody.

Cheers,
Matt.

I think slowly I will target some pages to update now after 4 months we finally got main page done, lol !

Then I will do it.

if somebody is interested in translating GUI I made simple tool in java to help myself.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/u2o84uvbjolh6x6/Translator.jar

after logging into mysql, select second tab then fill textfields and click button to add new Language or just click on existing one to load it. Go to the third tab fill empty cells and after each press commit, table will reload and BOOM! little pice is translated.

I get a virus warning with that file

I like the updated look of the wiki, good job.

Under favorites, exemplary setups links to a non existent page (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Categor:User_Setups)

I think it's supposed to go to this one: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Category:User_Setups

I would fix it myself though I don't think I have access, if I do, I don't know how to edit that navigation bar!

I wanted to edit this too, but I do not know how.
The only thing I dislike of the mainpage is that the top table is not perfectly aligned with the lower ones.
But in the end it has a much cleaner look and feel.
