Users / News: Let's hunt some more game
« on: June 20, 2011, 06:00:40 pm »
Dear Linuxmce community,

The call for the hunt has been answered, and the results are promising.

The spoils of the hunt

Open defects have been decimated because of the efforts of all our hunters, nice work!
Asterisk seems to work now, but please be critical, post bugs if you find any.

But we are not done yet; as of now 6 bugs are still open:

We kindly ask you if you could verify and/or reproduce them and report your findings in SVN or in the forum. It will make the lives of the dev's a lot easier.
Take a look

If no new bugs arise, we are close to a release candidate of LinuxMCE 0810

We need more game

This is being worked on by tschak909.
Thom has re-ignited his passion for the game player and has added numerous new features to this part of Linuxmce

  • Bookmarking state of game ("follow me" works with these games)
  • Support of boxart
  • Added new game systems to the LinuxMCE Game Player:

    * Super NES / Super Famicom
    * Sega Genesis / MegaDrive
    * TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine/SuperGrafx
    * Atari 2600
    * Atari 5200
    * Atari 7800
    * Intellivision
    * Colecovision
    * Sega SG-1000
    * Sega Master System
    * Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
    * Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom), Including Famicom Disk System support.

Because we are in a feature freeze you can only look but not touch.........yet.

Is there anybody with this type of setup who can verify this?

Users / Asterisk | use of voicemail with intercom
« on: June 14, 2011, 01:20:42 pm »
Could someone verify if it is possible to divert calls through intercom to voicemail, get registered?
Could someone also verify when you accept an intercom call, you can divert it to voicemail?

I tried the 1st, but no voicemail is recorded
I tried the 2nd but didn't not hear the voicemail message.

Users / News: The hunt is on!
« on: June 14, 2011, 12:59:39 am »
Dear Linuxmce community,

The hunt is on, the hunt for the last bugs. Come and join the hunting party.
Take a look at this list from svn and try to confirm, add and/or solve these bugs keeping 0810 from releasing.
All levels of users can participate, try to reproduce the bugs to see if they are still there and report any findings, even confirmation that the bug still exists is useful. Also new bugs should be added, but check the list first though.

Why this hunt?

We (and you) want to release 0810.

So it has been decided,

no new features will be added to Linuxmce before 0810 is released, or Ubuntu 1110 has been released.

Whichever comes first.

Does that mean that new features will not be developed? Well in an open source project you can never tame the talents, and everybody is free to spent their free time how they like. We still encourage people to play with code and learn. Here is a nice example of golgoj4, picking it up nicely. We need more of the golgo's, we want to see at least a golgoj14 at the end of this month.

Golgo4's QML Light Switch
Golgoj4's exploring micro browser
and Golgoj4's frustrations

Why do I focus just on this one guy? Aren't there more dev's?
Yes and they are very much appreciated, and I will put more people in the spotlights later on, but I wanted to show his development as a dev, also he documents his progress nicely.
Be sure to look at his youtube video's

Users / Able to repair gc100-6?
« on: June 12, 2011, 12:32:49 pm »
I have fried my gc100-6.

I got one with a USA adapter, not an EU adapter.
So after long searching for a compatible EU adapter (consulted the printings on the plug and manuals) blinked for 5 seconds, and it went off.
Bought via via a US to Europe converter which are rare in Europe, and used the original plug, it doesn't work.

What would likely be fried, and is it easy to replace.
If you want I can make a pic of the board lay-out.

I recently acquired a gc100-6 but it has a USA plug.
However it is made from two components, I can detach the part of the plug that makes it USA, and maybe add an European one, but again, where to acquire and why don't they just supply it with the device

On the plug it says output 12v and 0,5A. On the website it says •9 to 18V DC@300mA

Can I just buy another somewhat similar adapter say 12 volts 1,5 A, or will it explode?

There are also these generic mega usefull adapters with all possible options/connectors, does someone know where to buy one.

Users / New(s) Easter Bunny in Town
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:37:04 am »

Dear Linuxmce community,

Happy Easter from everybody working night and day digging and poking in the code of LinuxMCE. There has been a change of watch. The bringer of news will be me from now on, till you all are bored with me, and/or vice verse.

Who is this newbie?
I am the serious version of somebody you might already know. I was/am BongoWongo.
My roots are not in IT at all, but in law. I am from the country that is squashed between United Kingdom, Germany and France. I do this as a hobby and a proof of concept. I am known for my good taste in jokes and testing almost every 0810 snapshot that is made available.
Take a look at

What can you expect from me?
What I want to try to do is, make a translation from "dev-talk" towards the linuxmce-community. When I started with LinuxMCE I was overwhelmed with the scope of the project, and also overwhelmed with all the information available. Sometimes it was not easy to grasp, what I was doing wrong? Was it a bug, am I the bug. It took me a long time to feel more and more comfortable with linuxMCE, but also I have a long way to go.
So to sum it up; make information easily accessible for people to what is really happening.

Can we congratulate you?
No, due to my Calvinistic nature, I cannot handle positiveness regarding my ego.

So what is the news then?
The news will be short today, to let the change sink in. Every dev is working hard on 0810 and 1004. 0810 is quite usable but not production ready. 1004 is for the bold, and misses some features. But the bottom line for both is, Asterisk. We really need help on that. So all hands on deck! Call that long lost friend/neighbour/ex, you know, the one who was always telling you about his vast phreaking Asterisk skills.

I will be back with you soon with more news.
There is a forum topic about this news article so you can react and give suggestions for the next item

Users / Squeezebox receiver + amp
« on: April 18, 2011, 05:29:38 am »
Bought a squeezebox receiver, but this device does not amplify the sound.
So between the receiver and two or maybe four loudspeakers I want to put an amp.
I have googled a bit, and found several cheap car amps, and T-amps, because cheap is the target.
But maybe you can guide me to a different approach or you have good/bad experience with the one or the other.
It would be nice if I could control the amp via the core, because 2  loudspeakers will be in entertainment zone 1 and the other in zone 2.

If I cannot control the amp via core, I need to buy another squeezebox receiver, with amp.

Small and cheap, I am not an audiophiliac, just nice sound, for two rooms that are 30m2. The loudspeakers are Bose units.

The general idea is to intregrate the speakers into a wall/ceiling so you see as little as possible, but you have the power of logitech/linuxmce behind it.

Users / SSD in core
« on: April 03, 2011, 10:05:27 am »
Is it smart to use an SSD as a HD in the core. the 60-80gb are becoming more and more affordable.
Media will be on a NAS. So will SSD survice the IO of linuxmce? Is it a big benefit in speed? I am under the impression that you should avoid SSD of you have a lot of "write" actions on that HD.
Is trim working in Linux/LinuxMCE?

Does Asteriks work for you, and no could you please specifiy what doesn't work.
It is concerning this ticket, which has been a huge pain for a long time, and after hard work of
los93sol let's put it to the test.
Preferably people who used the latest snapshot reply.

Because I am very blind in telecom world, could someone advice me a free carrier that I can test with? I am NL-based.
I have no interest as for now to use telecom in linuxmce, but I want to be able to test snapshots.

Is someone out there who had a succesfull install with this card.
On my asus Eeepc 206 I simply cannot netboot, it crashes after kubuntu splashscreen.
In xorg2.log I see somewhat disturbing signs:

Users / Flash / Youtube not working out of the box

With the lastest snapshots/installs I noticed flash does not work.
I was under the impression that it worked out of the box earlier.
