Developers / Re: GSD/Ruby Developers Conferences
« on: December 24, 2009, 10:54:58 pm »
Yep, wish there was another GSD 101 conference and video.

Been spending most of the Christmas now reading GSD related topics and wiki. Still quite lost, missing a simple step-by-step instructions, but I guess there are many things to consider making it more difficult to create a simple tutorial for it.

What might be the simplest GSD implemeted, I would like to take a look at that and try to understand it??

Thanks.

Hi,
now i'm confused. As i undestood, the wiimote connects to the MD or Hybrid by Bluettoth. Is this right? If iyes, is the infrared emiter (the bar) needed? Why? I'm about to order a wiimote controler only. DO i need to order the IR bar too?
TIA,
Paulo
Wiimote is connected via bluetooth. As the controller has a 3-axis accelerometer, it is possible to sense movements. However, this normally needs to be "tied" to some reference point. For this, the sensor bar allows to track the overall position of the wiimote. So, sensor bar reference together with the accelerometer  data provides "full" control.
See e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_Remote#Functionality

Interesting. Being a LMCE retard for several months now... just happened to check and noticed that I have one computer with W7MCE. It sure looks and feels great, but how do you add X10 (or preferably Z-wave) support for W7MCE? How about other more exotic (RS232) stuff? Any links out of this forum?

This is so self-evident, but: to begin 'learning' of the system is rather difficult. I, for example, have spent a lot of time reading this forum and wiki, yet, am unable to do any practical development. It does not mean I'm not committed to this, however.
It would be great to have some workshop around this?? Europe&US??

Another question related:
Does one need to buy a dedicated NAS, or can one just use two additional disks in RAID mode installed in the core? To me, this was an idea that partly justified starting a long building process of a full LMCE system.

Thanks colinjones for your suggestions.

I finally got to open two of the dongles I still have. First one has no info on the chips, they're covered with black glue. The other has the chip by CSR, also referred to in this wiki page:
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Bluetooth_Dongle. Yet still no luck.

I made a fresh install on an old PC. Now in KDE when pairing the phone, it finds the phone but says (something like) that the phone is not compatible.. can't remember what it was exactly. Now, it's not found at all.

This must be the thread discussing the radio chip amongst others, if someone is interested:

Some users do use E71 via bluetooth... help?

Installation issues / Re: 8.10 - Bluetooth - Java MO
« on: September 09, 2009, 03:29:30 pm »
Same here (still problems with BT connection..).

Today installed LMCE from zero to another PC, that went extremely well. However, I do get this same message from dce-router as you kyfalcon. OK, something -is- saved. When trying to install this *.sis package it fails, stating that it is not supported. My phone is Nokia E71. I have enabled applications to be installed without any certificates.

This thing is not a big deal, just one step towards that would be nice to take. Also, after awhile one becomes a bit obsessed with this :-)

Sorry for not replying your question, instead curious and need to ask one: how come MCV Vera, why not let the core take care of Z-wave units also?

Hi. I'd like to know the present support situation for this unit. Checked the forums to found few short/dead threads on this.
I'm planning on buying few of these, if they're supported. Based on my experience, I'll setup also a wiki page for these sensors. That's about all I can contribute at the moment..
Thanks for your comments.

Hi merkur2k. Would it be possible for you to update the wiki to give instructions (other than what you've already given) for newbies like me to go through the setup process? I think that would be appreciated by many users.

Sorry for your problem, yet glad to hear I'm not the only one..
Do you get any kind of connection between the phone and the LMCE? I do not (so far), yet the in the KDE I do. Just don't know how to proceed.

I even tried the weborbiter, which is quite allright.

Agree with JaseP.

I bought Archos 705 thinking that it'll make an excellent orbiter. It would, if the operating system were open but it's not. I had to buy Opera separately for it -- version that crashes soo often.

N810 works just fine, also as a multipurpose device. For an in-wall orbiter, the screen just should be bigger. Wait, did someone say WebDT...
