Hey, another alternative from the DX http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.39169 ??
Would that work as an in-wall orbiter? The price is soo low, attempting..

Hi,
don't knoew if this helps, but words of wisdom can be found at http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Howto:_Using_Network_Shares.

I solved my missing NAS with info on that page. It has a lot of useful tips.

OK, I got a similar response (unknown..) when playing with TestSerialPort. This happens when the baudrate is given as "-b9600". Try "-b 9600" instead.

Hi,
one step might be checking the correct cabling.
Have you tested your serial connection with this (Windows) software http://www.milinst.co.uk/shop/DMX/downloads/DMXDriver.zip?

I solved my needs by applying these instructions: HTTPS / SSL access on the outside http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/HTTPS

Works very well.

Hey gonesurfing, have you started the wiki page on this yet? Quite many of us are interested in advanced lightning.

Few questions that hopefully aid in getting your device working:
First, could you point to the specific board you're using?
Have you setup the serial protocol in the GSD correct?
Can you control the board with TestSerialPort command?

Hi, just wanted to share my experiences of having drive detection problems.

I also understood from the forum that USB drives are not preferred with LMCE. Software RAID is available but since 810 is still in beta and especially because of myself adding tweaking and playing destroying the setup, that solution for data storage might not be that trouble free. Decided to buy a NAS, one that was often mentioned here just to make sure it installs without a hassle (my first NAS).

Nope, it was not detected automatically. Darn. Tried couple of times before finding help from the wiki for 'Manual Creation of a File Server' at http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Howto:_Using_Network_Shares. With those instructions, no problem at all.

Hi there, there are plenty of different types of drapery and blind controllers and motors available e.g. via eBay. I have a low cost one that can be controlled via IR remote. Therefore, USB-UIRT that is. Haven't integrated that yet with LMCE, but should be a basic thing to do.

Depending on the controller, if it's a simple one it could require some additional "intelligence" to get two-way communication (if needed). Iow, if you want to know the exact status of the blinds you might need to do some additional tweaking.

In any case, viewing angle is just another property to check out in store before buying. Here's a link to one test illustrating the situation, scroll down to "viewing angle" section (test made in 2009, though):
http://www.televisioninfo.com/content/Samsung-LN32B360-LCD-HDTV-Review-995/Audio.htm

The site has an opinion on manufacturers' published values:
Quote
"Our viewing angle test examines the contrast ratio and color shift of the display at different viewing angles. We measure the contrast ratio at 5 degree increments from 0 degrees (straight on) to ±85 degrees. Our scoring for this test is based upon the point at which the contrast ratio has fallen by 50 percent from the maximum we measured at 0 degrees. This means that our ranges of satisfactory viewing angles are very different from the ones the manufacturers publish, which are generally based on the angle at which the contrast ratio falls to 10:1. We feel that this is far too low, since most displays have a face-on contrast ratio of over 1000:1, making a 10:1 contrast ratio unwatchable".

Only found few settings related to this and they should be fine: All software installations allowed, no certificate checking. And the installation goes through.

The help files talk about java settings and where to access them, however, they are not there. Perhaps the unit is somehow limited. Need to try with some other phone.

One additional aspect with LCDs is still the quite limited viewing angle.

Thanks, Kooma
