46  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: DVB Cards info needed for Templates on: December 23, 2009, 04:39:24 am
...
So keep them comming and no one will go ignored just remember the info to post

DViCo FusionHDTV7 Dual Express - The lspci bits were already up on the wiki I created for this card.  I ran the v4l2-ctl and added the output but soon realized that the analog inputs were likely from the usb tuner card I have plugged in (I'll post the info for it soon).  The driver for this card does not support the analog inputs.  http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/DViCO_FusionHDTV7_Dual_Express

This card requires the xc5000 firmware.  There are two versions that I have used, depending on which the kernel requests (1.1 or 1.6.114).

Replied as soon as I saw this post...I was away from the forums for a couple days.  Keep up the good work.

...which last i knew vonage at least does not have...

I believe you can get "bring your own device" for vonage by adding a softphone to your plan for an additional $10/month.  I'm not advocating for or against...just wanted to clarify that point.

I use vonage at home, but not through LMCE.  I have plenty of complaints, but from what I can tell, they are all due to my internet connection and NOT vonage.

A bit pricey to me, but I wouldn't mind having one of these in my kitchen...

Anybody else think this would be a good fit somewhere in your house?
50  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: beta update the MDs? on: August 13, 2009, 09:00:08 pm
Doing a
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
on the core will not update the MD's.
The same commands will need to be run from the MD's as well.  You should be able to take advantage of the core's local cache of the packages to speed it up (thanks to the new update from niz23).  At least it will happen much faster.

I _assume_ that the cache will be utilized from a chroot also, but I am not 100% sure.

Maybe this should also be posted in Users or Marketplace.

53  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Floor Plan Size on: August 12, 2009, 09:55:55 pm
I know I've seen this before in the forums....  but several searches later an still no luck I'm just going to ask.

What dimensions (px by px or in x in) are recommended for the floor plan images?

It's not listed on the wiki here:  http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Floorplans

TIA

Also, I have updated the page that you linked to with this info, as it seems like a good place for it.  Mostly just pasted the details from the other page, plus linked them.

If anybody knows definitively about whether png AND jpg are supported, please edit both pages accordingly.  The page I got my info from says either one is good, but the web admin is adamant about it being png.  "(must be PNG)"

I think I read somewhere that it should be 1200x1200px.  I'm still looking for the source of that info...

It seems there has been some progress for this chip. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1213340

Not necessarily where it needs to be, but better off than before, or so it seems to me.
56  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Playstation 3 through LinuxMCE on: August 05, 2009, 10:31:49 pm
I agree.

Being able to control a PS3 from LinuxMCE would be nice.

Afaik itīs not possible since the ps3 do not implement a upnp/dlna renderer whic can be controller from external devices.
Neither does it have any form of socket communication that can be used to remotely control the ps3.

It should be possible to use the sone ps3 sdk to create an app that can act a a remote control server for the ps3 over tcp/ip.
Unfortunately the sdk cost a whole lot of money and you also need to sign your code to be able to run it on any ordinary ps3 unit.

Considering the capabilities of a ps3 and the upcoming ps3 slim this would be a really nice addition to lmce to use the ps3 as a output device for audio/video and have a remote Orbiter to control it.

/niz23

The only way I know of to control the PS3 with lmce is by using IR.  A UIRT and a cheap IR remote for the PS3 can get it done.

I'm guessing it would only work for media functions and XMB navigation.
