31  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: o2 Joggler - cheap touchscreen orbiter or even MD? on: August 06, 2010, 05:14:54 pm
I just chose the path of least resistance for me.  Downloading and dd'ing the image to a usb drive is very easy, then I had a familiar environment to work with.  My main concern was dependencies.  I knew they would be easy to meet in ubuntu.  It is, more than likely, possible to make it work in o2 OS (after working around some o2'isms), so feel free to experiment.

Sure, I'll make a write-up in the wiki for this.

One other important point that I forgot to mention is that I am running Ubuntu Netbook Edition 9.10 via USB flash drive, not the original.

The easiest way to get a basic orbiter on Joggler is to simply build an SDL orbiter by using the MAEMO_NOKIA770 define.  If you have a working builder, this should take minimal effort.  All the needed x86 libs from the core are compatible.

This is what I did, with guidance from Thom.  It's a basic orbiter, like I said, which means no automated setup, etc.

We have added the full source code to the svn and also provided a very easy to use make script that grabs all the code you need and even installs GCC for you etc... take a look here;

Enjoy!

I have an UnOrbiter.NET port mostly complete.  I'll attach the code to a trac ticket later tonight or tomorrow when I get finished(I use this term loosely).

this updated xine that I posted above doesn't play the mkv files?

Worked for me.

Marco: The Cuwin-3500 is out of my price range, but the Eken m003 is more affordable, thanks.

DX has a handful of winCE devices that are affordable (like this one http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.39551).

Not sure about the quality, though.

 Huh

What product are you actually trying to link to?

I haven't been a regular on mp3car since I totaled my car that had the pc in it Sad

You should check out LinuxICE at openice.org.

There exists a ticket in trac for this issue.

40  LinuxMCE / Developers / Re: a Quick Glance, SmartQ V7 Orbiter. on: April 07, 2010, 03:21:31 am
Seeing the video live was pretty neat, I must admit.  Need to do more of that, for sure.

Of course I'm interested in seeing a nice, shiny orbiter port for my V7.  Not sure how many others have one around here, though.  Maybe this will generate some more interest in the device.

Nice work.
41  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: which card(s) for multiple satellite receivers on: March 19, 2010, 08:34:17 pm
I have an HD-PVR that I plan to use with my vip722 (not using it yet, lmce support is still in-work, afaik).

If you don't intend to capture HD, it is probably overkill.  Other than that, I have no experience with cards used for that purpose, so I can't help you out there.
42  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: which card(s) for multiple satellite receivers on: March 18, 2010, 11:43:47 pm

The problem is that external STB's may have two tuners but they can still only output the signal from one of those tuners at any time - you would need 4 dual tuner STB's to deliver the capability you describe I'm afraid.

Some Dish Network dual tuner DVRs (such as vip722, vip722k, etc) support "two rooms" and therefore, have two video outputs.  Not sure if you will be able two control two separate "rooms" with IR, though.  Typically TV2 responds to the RF remote.  I have successfully used two RF remotes before, but not two IR remotes.  Maybe setting different addresses for each is sufficient, but I've never tried it.
43  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: no "MythTV Setup" option in Computing on Oribter on: March 12, 2010, 05:11:35 am
You should verify that you have the Avenard repo in your /etc/apt/sources.list.
Code:
deb http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos/ intrepid  release

If you don't have it...add it.

Then install the mythtv package and the plugin.
Code:
apt-get install mythtv
apt-get install pluto-mythtv-plugin

Sloppy seconds for $10.
45  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Airport Express as Audio Zone? on: January 18, 2010, 11:44:07 pm
You could add a USB soundcard for much less than $40.  Add squeezeslave...http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Squeezeslave_on_the_core and then you're done.  From what I've heard, they will be synchronized, also.

Not saying that you couldn't make the Airport Express work if you want, this is just what I would do.  I have seen USB audio adapters that work with linux for as low as $3.
