Marketplace / Re: WebDT 366s - Brand new still in the box. ** $75.00**
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:29:19 am »
Fwiw, I bought two units from Ted.   Neither unit will boot/recognize the USB port on it's side.  Specifically, when I plug in a bootable USB drive and turn it on, neither unit will boot from the USB drive.  They both go to a blue screen, then back to black and give the error "Attempting to boot a Hard Drive...  Invalid system disk   Replace the disk, and then press any key."  Also, on one of the units, the first 2 of the 3 lights do not light up at first boot.  I do have a third WebDT 366 (a GX, not purchased from Ted) that has no issues booting from my bootable USB drive, so I know that the USB drive is okay.

When I first contacted Ted about this, his reply was that I don't have a real problem, he could help me get something loaded, and he would send out another e-mail shortly with some info.  After that, despite multiple e-mails from me, I never heard from him again.

It could be that the purpose of your life is to serve as a warning to others.

Id like to know if any of these are still available also.

Careful there.  Adding in the two duds that were sold to me brings it to a total of 4 bad units sold in this thread already.

Andrew

My wife had a good question, one I'm ashamed to say I hadn't thought of: what sort of update options are available after the initial 12 months?

Thanks

FWIW, I have both.   ;D  I wanted the HD-PVR to capture all of the HD that I subscribe to.  Then later on newegg had a decent sale on the HDHomeRun dual tuner (~$80), so I grabbed it as well.  It doesn't get the encrypted channels, but 90% of what I subscribe to isn't encrypted, and at that price I couldn't say no.

We also support the Motorola DCT-6412/6200/3200 cable boxes, as well.

Just curious, is the Motorola 3200 cable box controlled by USB-UIRT or one of the direct lines (Firewire, network, etc)?  I have the 3200 downstairs in the theater room, and I'll be bringing that online in the next couple weeks.  I have a USB-UIRT already for it, but if I need another connection, I'd like to get ready.

Thanks

When you say you installed win XPe and orbiter on a WebDT, do you mean separately, or do you mean you installed win XPe and used webOrbiter?  What I'm asking here is, did you use PadOrbiter with this card, and everything worked?

Also, how far did this card stick out of the WebDT?  Can you post a picture?

Thanks

I'm sorry, but are you really expecting every member to go through recaptcha for every single post they make?

How about recaptcha for every profile with less than X posts?  1 ought to be sufficient to keep out new spammers, but 3, 5, or 10 would still be reasonable if it were explained, and would block currently registered spammers.

Sorry to hear about the spammer problem.  (Although the one that signed off as a chick was entertaining).  Any chance recaptcha could be implemented for new accounts (ideally), or for postings?

The registration form when you sign up already has something like that.

Okay.  How about using it with postings then?

If you want cheap (and if you're as cheap as I am :)), don't buy a case at all; mount the motherboard and DVD drive to a piece of MDF, screw MDF to the wall or back of the TV. Use a 1U PSU off eBay (for the best combination of flatness and cheapness), mount to MDF also. Doesn't matter what it looks like if it's going to be hidden! Alternatively hide the PC in a cupboard or wardrobe (again, case not really required).

I'm pretty cheap so there's a big part of me that loves that plan, but my kids can be fairly creative in how they destroy things (ie: LEGO fight).  I'll take the $39 case as a little insurance against whatever they'll eventually throw at it.  Even mounted to the backside of a tv, they'll find some way to throw something at it.

Just so you know, I'm one of those poor schmucks that had to replace a 42" LCD because a Wii-mote went through the screen.   :'(

would you mind telling which motherboard did you choose?

Not at all.  ASRock 330.  It was either that or one of the Revo's, and this was cheaper by over $100.

Good Morning

I'm planning on building a couple of MDs with the following components:

One tv will be controlled by USBUIRT, the other with a USB-serial cable (feels a bit strange not putting in a hdd).  Have I overlooked/forgotten anything?

Thanks

Where is the mobo in question currently? Behind the TV? There are various miniITX cases that accommodate slimline slot-loading drives. I won't post any links as they will also be in the UK.

The mobo will be behind the tv in a miniITX case.  Currently, it's at newegg.com waiting for me to order it!  I keep going back and forth about either building one with the dvd drive in it, or using an external dvd drive.  It doesn't really matter to me which way to go, so I'll likely go with whatever's the cheaper option.  With what I've seen so far, that's looking like the external.

Maybe I'm overthinking this too much.  I haven't really seen anywhere that a DVD drive didn't work with linux.  I guess I'm just skittish because so many otherwise ordinary computer components can be touch-n-go with linux (USB-serial cables, anybody?).  Does anybody have any recollection or experience with a dvd drive not working with linux/lmce?
