Anybody got a chance to look inside this box? From the specifications it looks like this box runs uCLinux, and got a sigmatel chipset and impressively got HomePlug built-in, and HDMI can do upto 1080i in a very small box.. ;)

probably some gurus can shed some light to be able to use this as a MD..

Users / Opera CAS-214 case
« on: April 16, 2009, 10:50:47 am »
All, as some of you know I have just started my LMCE project.. and the first few parts came in.. one of them is Opera CAS-214 multimedia case with 500w psu..

one wierd thing about this unit is the placement of 5.25" bays and the method to fit the drives in there.. the problem I hit with fitting LG's DVD drive is that it wont fit with the two plastic holders of the bay.. i could fit the 160GB primary harddrive with 5.25" adapater into one of the bays.. but struggling to fit DVD drive.. and there is no manual either.. :(

if anybody has this one.. could you please help me..

Hi Rednus,

Just to correct you a little ;-)

We dont sell individual MD's...we're not in that market really. We like to sell fully supported systems to our customers. We do build/sell systems using Eee Box B202 & B206's and also Eee Top 1602's... we do not currently install systems using MSI Wind based hardware. We also build our own Core's and MD's - see our site for details/data sheets on the NC100, MM400, MM600 etc. The NC100 & MM600 (a MD based on the same chassis) are silent, fanless, passively cooled designs built in-house.

...If your just looking for MD's to build into a system then you should also look at the Acer Aspire Revo (we will be testing this soon...but we expect it to be compatible) as this is the first nVidia Ion based machine to hit the market - http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/9606798/Acer-Aspire-Revo-Intel-Atom-N230-1-6GHz-1GB-8GB-SSD-Linux-Desktop-PC/Product.html. As soon as we have tested this new line from Acer we will report here on it - so you might want to wait ;-)

All the best

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

thanks for the explanation. Sorry, I did mean that Dianemo use modified eee box and others and supply for the installation. Also I know that you do not sell retail.

Thanks

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninterruptible_power_supply

Hi Zaerc, I did think about UPS, but a UPS can supply only a part of the appliance.. but even if we assume that UPS keeps the core running for some time.. how the user can be informed of the situation of the PSTN line got cut off? (No PSTN mean no internet either)

thanks

All, one main important ingredient for a security system is to function when there is a power failure (deliberately or naturally) and communicate that info using PSTN line or GSM line..

Anybody did any permutations as to what happens or what should happen when power and pstn line has been cut deliberately or by a natural disaster..

any help appreciated..

thanks

Not sure about MK but in Chelmsford there is Convergent Home Technologies.  They sell a number of devices for use as MD's take a look at their page on the Wiki

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Convergent_Home_Technologies

Hi m8..

thanks, I already know about convergent, but they dont manufacture their own pc's, they use asus eee box or msi wind tops and few others available on the market as MD's..

one of my friend told me about a company in MK but he cant remember the name..

i will drop a note here.. if i find them..

thanks

Guys, I heard from a friend that a company in MK makes fanless slim line PCs, that I can use as MD's. Does anyone know the name of the company?

Thanks

Hi all, anybody know where to buy z-wave sensors and stuff for cheap.. i have looked into some shops but they are so costly, that i can build another house in that cost.. :(

cant even buy from US because the frequency is different in Europe.. :(

if not z-wave, are there any other cheap options?
