I don't know anything about this, but the possibility for using asterisk at home has been very tempting for a number or years...

The guys on slickdeals post something this AM about upcoming changes:  http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=1480557

Looks like the install scripts are there as well- anyone know if this means anything- especially for those of us in the US without an ISP that offers cheap/any VOIP service?

Back to this...   anything I can provide to assist?

I just reboot the MD without changing anything else and greping the log, I got this:

01      09/18/09 23:23:09.628           GenericHIDInterface::DecodeEventInFD: Short read from fd 1 <0xb4877b90>
01      09/18/09 23:23:13.628           GenericHIDInterface::DecodeEventInFD: Short read from fd 1 <0xb4877b90>
01      09/18/09 23:23:17.628           GenericHIDInterface::DecodeEventInFD: Short read from fd 1 <0xb4877b90>
01      09/18/09 23:23:21.628           GenericHIDInterface::DecodeEventInFD: Short read from fd 1 <0xb4877b90>
01      09/18/09 23:23:25.628           GenericHIDInterface::DecodeEventInFD: Short read from fd 1 <0xb4877b90>
01      09/18/09 23:23:29.628           GenericHIDInterface::DecodeEventInFD: Short read from fd 1 <0xb4877b90>

Odd thing is that on the restart I got the "You have recently added or removed devices...."  so I clicked yes to reboot and was prompted to regenerate all orbiters... it's doing that now.

If it helps, I can provide my log as well.  I quit using this MD (Dell Latitude D800) because I was having problems getting media to play.  Whenever I use the touchpad the "lights" menu pulls up- regardless of where I drop the cursor or try to select.  I do NOT see this problem when I plug in a USB mouse and use that to control the MD.

Here is part of my log that, like widescreen, I only have a 21_LaunchOrbiter.sh.log, but I have variations of this log (*.log.1, *.log.2.gz, *log.3.gz, ect up to 21_LaunchOrbiter.sh.log.7.gz).

I have added/removed/changed various things over the last couple weeks since my last rebuild.  I am using putty to get the above log and from what is displayed from the log every 4 seconds on 09/13/09 I got a short ready ending at time-stamp 22:00:39.611.  The only thing that I have that would occur around that time is to turn off my lamppost (zwave controlled).  Then on 09/17/09 at 19:22:41.195 and occuring again every 4 seconds until 09/17/09 at 19:26:53.518 (approximately 4 minutes?!?) the log ends.

I have my zwave turn on my lamppost at sunset and turn off at 10:00 PM (CST).

Unfortunately I'm running 4-5 MDs at any given time plus the core and turning them on/off trying to get the PXE power on/off to work...

Let me know if I can provide anything else to assist.
185  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: mythtv simultaneous? on: September 17, 2009, 08:56:12 pm
There was a lot of talk about distributing media this way when back when some were trying to sync music like this post- http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4724.0.  There was one post that I particularly remember that talked about doing this, but (iirc) there was a long lasting bug that killed the process....  can't find it and don't have any personal experience.  If you get it working, you may find the similar "out of sync" issues as mentioned in the above thread.
186  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Suspend Touchscreen Inputs on: September 09, 2009, 03:26:21 am
My thermostat has this feature- a "clean me now" button that suspends all buttons until the countdown (30 seconds) is completed.  During that time you can wipe the screen clean.

I find that my WebDT gets fairly dusty- with a suspend button I could avoid powering down (or suspending the device) to clean it.  At the end of the day with the quick the WebDT resumes very quickly from a suspend, but I think I would prefer not having to do this.

Don't have the slightest idea what this would take...
187  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: No internet on Diskless MD's on: August 23, 2009, 06:34:31 pm
Their were anumber of us that ecperiencedthe same-   I think it was found that if you login to the web admin pages, go to the network pages where it lists three nics and press update at the bottom-  Iif u remember correctly.

Or, see this thread

188  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: apt-get update vs aptitude update on: August 16, 2009, 06:14:21 pm
This maybe related to my other post here:  http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8679.15 but I reinstalled the latest alpha and did both aptitude (had to install aptitude on the MD) and apt-get updates and both aptitude/apt-get dist-upgrades and the lmce-activate-orbiter-plasmoid did not install on my MD or my core- I had to manually type:  apt-get update lmce-activate-orbiter-plasmoid to get it installed.

On a side note- with these posts http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8070.15 do the dev's want these we'll call them anomalies rather than "bugs" posted here on the threads?  I am not a programmer, but am able to dedicate a fair amount of time and hardware to testing and reporting what happens.  If this is not wanted/needed I will quit posting my problems/experiences.
189  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: beta update the MDs? on: August 16, 2009, 06:01:23 pm

It would be better to generate new package lists on the spot, again when logged into the MD as root:
Code:
cd /usr/pluto/deb-cache
dpkg-scanpackages -m . /dev/null | tee ./Packages | gzip -9c >./Packages.gz
apt-get update

Thanks Zaerc- the first part about the key helped me as well.  This second part I can't get to work.  dpkg-scanpackages exists on the core, but does not exist on my other MDs.  Any ideas?
190  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: alpha 2.28 issues on: August 16, 2009, 05:10:28 am
That's all I tried- seemed to work mostly.  Now having another problem in that when playing DVDs it says about every chapter (sometimes slightly before the start and sometimes a few seconds after the start of a chapter) that the dvd is not readable or the libdvd is not installed.  I have to restart the dvd and fastforward to where I was to play again...

Lot of strange things....  so good luck.

And-  the screen goes black after a period of time- maybe 15 minutes??  I'll try to time it and update the post at the next blank screen-   11:20 now...   yep, 11:35 the screen went black.
191  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: alpha 2.28 issues on: August 16, 2009, 03:14:14 am
It fixed itself....

I will have to report on my ifconfig output later, but for now the admin pages changed to me having only 2 NICs- I didn't change anything, just swapped the nics twice (I think, didn't realize it had to reboot between each one) but whatever happened I'm back to eth0 being my external and eth1 being my internal and I can get packages from the internet from MDs- haven't tried firefox/konqueror yet.
192  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: alpha 2.28 issues on: August 16, 2009, 01:02:57 am
Don't know if I should hijack this thread or start a new one, but re-installed everything to 2.29 and and still not able to connect to the internet on mds or the core.  Another oddity is that the admin pages now say that I have (3) network adapters.  I have have my typical eth0 and eth1 but there is a third eth0:avahi.

I know changes were made to detect the NICs on the system- does anyone else see n+1 nic cards on their machines?
193  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Data Disk lost after latest update on: August 16, 2009, 12:53:25 am
Pigdog, gadget and myself I think all experienced similar things-  mine seemed to break with the 27 alpha from which I think generated 28 to fix it and then updating to 29 made things worse.  I did a full restore of my entire system today- 4 mds, 4 orbiters and 2 nas- dns323 any another.   Everything seems to be working great-  only oddity is that when lmce found the nas it didn't ask if a password was required so I had to go into the admin pages and manually add it.

Kind of a pain with no DVD, but I think you'll find the best luck starting from scratch
194  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: alpha 2.28 issues on: August 15, 2009, 09:46:06 pm
Same for me-  md announced itself and is curentlu downloading the packages.  Whoo hoo!
195  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: alpha 2.28 issues on: August 14, 2009, 04:30:24 pm
Gadget-   Does your new mds announce themselves to the core/router?   Mine die right after it says it is connected at 100 full duplex.  The screen clears with nothing written except at the very top lime where it talks about not connection to the router and rebooting in ...   This repeats on a continuous loop.   Going to rebuild from scratch tonight.

On a side note-   Now with the cache,  can we save the 400+ mB file so I'm not taking up extra bandwidth to dl a video I already have?
