My next mobile phone will be whatever linuxmce has the best support for -there's talk of developing for both android and the iphone. I'm willing to contribute $40 to one of these, but I prefer to wait to see which makes greater strides.

I ended up going with 810 since 710 was giving me piles of trouble. Aside from my Fiire remote not working and a few of my AVIs not playing, everything seems to be running smoothly.
Contrary to the wiki, I had to install restricted drivers before running the lmce install scripts.

Hi,
Did you look at the Unrecognized NIC wiki?
What kind of NIC is it? Yes, I checked it out. There's no kernel module available from what I can tell. I understand it's a Realtek 8211 chipset.

If I go with option b), do I need to do the CD install?
I.e install kubuntu 0710, upgrade kernel so that I have onboard NIC and PCI NIC recognized, install linuxmce?
Or can I use the DVD install and upgrade the kernel after the whole process finishes? .

My onboard NIC is not supported under 710 without a kernel upgrade. What is the best/easiest way to install: a) Install 2 PCI NIC, upgrade kernel, remove 1 PCI NIC b) Install 1 PCI NIC, configure single NIC setup, upgrade kernel, switch to double NIC setup. If a), what manual configuration is necessary following removing the PCI NIC? I'm planning on giving 0810 a try in a few weeks but I don't have time at the moment to fiddle with an alpha release. My gf is patiently waiting for the mess of "computer guts" in the living room to get cleaned up Thanks, Dave

LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Strange diagonal distortion on divx files - not present when playing on Win MP

I think I'm having this issue or something similar to it. I'd call them diagonal clouds, not lines, and they look a bit like the northern lights. The divx movies play back in black and white, but the clouds have a single-colored hue that changes depending on the material.
It's fixed if I switch to xv. Problem is that the UI2-masked responsiveness is poor and movie playback is stutter-y with xv (opengl's much better), so I'm stuck switching to xv each time I want to watch certain DivX movies.
It's a fairly fresh build, you guys think a rebuild is worth it?

Bulek,
Did you ever have any luck with this? I'm having a similar-sounding issue with registering my sip softphone from an outside pc. I've got no router between the core and my cable modem, I've disabled the firewall, set the appropriate ports to core_internal in the pluto-admin firewall settings. Asterisk CLI shows no indication that it is getting any registration requests (i've tried 'sip set debug')
I've tried SJphone and X-lite with the same results. I can ping the core from the remote pc, and 5060 is open.
I have no problem setting up softphones on the internal network.
Thanks,
Dave

If there are no replies, then most likely nobody knows the answer or they are biting their tongue because if you had searched the wiki, forum, or google, you would find the answer. 1) In the case that no one knows the answer, the person may assume that the lack or replies is due to the information being easily available and go on a fruitless frustrating search. 2) In the case that the information is easily available the person may have looked but overlooked it. They may assume that no one knows the answer and be frustrated by the lack of support. Either situation drives people away from the community which I think is a bad thing. I guess the way I see it, a harsh RTFF answer is better than no answer. At least then you identify that the information does exist and you eliminate the possibility that no one knows the answer.

Is there any chance we could have someone (with adequate linuxmce experience, I'd volunteer but I'm new) in the forum who on a regular basis could go through past posts that have 0 replies and give _some sort_ of useful reply? Even if it's merely "Read the f*cking FAQ" or "You don't make any sense, please clarify". There are times when such 0 reply posts are encountered during forum searches where the answers to such questions are of interest - there seems to be little point in re-posting the question since it wasn't answered the first time.
Some of my own posts have not been answered and they are questions posted following reasonable amounts of research. The lack of response is confusing (Did I miss something in the FAQ or Wiki? Does no one know the answer? Did I search through the forum using poor search terms? Should I keep looking or am I wasting my time? Am I trying to do something with linuxmce that it can't do?)
I think linuxmce would be much more accessible to less advanced users if this was done - I realize no one has the time as everyone is busy making linuxmce even more amazing than it already is.
I'm not trying to be whiny or demanding as I'm grateful for the many hours that have been donated to this project to date. I just thought it would be a good thing from an accessibility standpoint.

LinuxMCE / Users / UI2 MD control (newb)

Still waiting for my Fiire remote to arrive, until then I'm stuck learning with my keyboard + mouse. I've finished (hopefully) messing around with hardware and reinstalling the system. Here's what I'm finding from a user interface POV:
1)I've noticed that if I begin watching a movie I can press F2 and I am returned to the video list where it last was, with all the filters I had set.
If during the movie I adjust the volume or jog forward or back and THEN press F2, I do not return to the video list. Instead I get the most recently used control (volume or shuttle, except the graphics are messed up because the control is a black strip). I then have to press F1 and navigate back to the video list, after which the filters are all reset. Is this normal behaviour? If yes, is there a function to return to the video list as it last was regardless of having previously adjusted the volume or position?
2) If I select a video from the video list and then select "MOVE", nothing happens.
3) If I create a bookmark, and then try to delete it via the video list, it will not delete. I must play the bookmark, then press F1, then go to bookmarks in this file, and then delete the bookmark.

Thanks Pnuts,
I'll take a look at it. Only seems to do avi and divx files, but it would be a start.
If there's info somewhere on the .id3 file format, someone could easily write a 3rd party app to handle this. Integration into linuxmce would be prefered obviously, but in the mean time...

I take it from the lack of responses and page views that
a) there is no such tool b) there is no desire for such a tool
from which I derive that
c) linuxmce is geared more towards media produced by Big Media Corps versus stuff made by the little guy which isn't catalogued on internet databases. This is a little confusing since I always understood the open source community to stand up for the little guy.
Anyways, I'm hoping someone will point out that being a newby, I have
i) overlooked an obvious feature and that the lack of responses is merely tongue-biting. ii) asked about feature which is obviously needed and has been asked for too many times before (though my forum-searches have not revealed such), resulting in tongue-biting.
Thanks!
Dave
