Users / Bedroom Sunrise Simulation Lighting Event: Can this be done?
« on: February 18, 2010, 05:32:29 pm »
I have a problem with waking up in the morning, and I'm hoping my LinuxMCE setup can help me. The traditional auditory alarm clock doesn't suit me very well. The key, for me, to waking up early with a feeling of being refreshed appears to be light.

I would like to dim my bedroom lights from 0 to 100% gradually over a 15 minute period, beginning at a time that can be set each night before bed, like a traditional alarm clock. For the most realistic sunrise-simulation, I'd like to use as many discrete intervals as allowed by the Zwave protocol (I think it's 128?)

I see that I can use a timed lighting event to set a certain level on my bedroom lights, but I'd like to avoid having to create 128 or so different events occuring 7 seconds apart. I'm wondering if there's a way to create a single alarm clock event which executes a script. Conceptually it would look like:

<Bedroom_Sunrise_Simulation_Event_Script>
setlevel lightingdeviceXYZ 1
pause 7
setlevel lightingdeviceXYZ 2
pause 7
setlevel lightingdevice XYZ 3
pause 7
etc... but done using a loop and incrementing variable.

Can someone let me know if this is possible, and if so, point me in the right direction for getting started?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: High level roadmap

Bump.

There's a broken link to a roadmap wiki at the top of this forum. Can we please have a roadmap, even if it's very high level with not much detail?

I live in Toronto.

If I had more time and expertise I'd love to 'work on' Linuxmce - but I do have the system set up and use it regularly if that's of any help to you.

Users / IR Command Lag
« on: January 21, 2010, 04:03:38 pm »
Added a device template for my wii and SH-AC500D receiver (control receiver via USB uirt), learned all the codes. Changed the IR delay values to 1s after poweron. Went into setup wizard and assigned inputs on the receiver. Reloaded router and regened orbiters.

There's a 6 to 15 second delay when I select the wii scenario in orbiter before receiver switches inputs. It's always faster switching back to the MD input.

Any ideas?

Feature requests & roadmap / High level roadmap

Just wondering, on a high level, what the direction being taken is.

Is there a wiki or webpage that tracks this?

I read some time ago that 1005 would be the next release after 810 - is this still true? I also read a bunch of features that were planned for inclusion in 810. Some of these appear to no longer planned - which is fine - but it'd be great to know the full list and keep up with the plans as they change.

I know I can look at individual tickets and sort by milestone but is there something a bit more non-developer friendly, high level like this?

Thanks! :P

Please excuse my ignorance of terminology...

What do you mean by "next development cycle"? Do you mean the next beta, or do you mean LMCE 1005?

Users / Slow Samba Transfers
« on: January 02, 2010, 05:27:52 pm »
I'm getting about 1MB/s transfer via Samba from my CORE to my windows client PCs over gigabit ethernet. Via FTP I get ~ 10MB/s.

Anyone know why Samba is so slow and what can be done to improve its transfer speed? I'm using a clean Beta2 DVD install with all the updates.

Thanks,

David

Thanks krys.

I remember that new 810 executables were provided during the alpha... they had a new icon and splash screen. I guess they were revoked for further work?

Windows executables were returned during the alpha (pluto-orbiterinstaller (363) - Windows orbiter executables are available again) but with the latest beta they seem to be missing again.

Can someone send me the latest orbiterinstaller.msi?

PM me if you have it and I'll give you my email addy.

Thanks,

David

Open up the Xorg.0.log for the MD and search for "(EE)"

post any errors you find here.

allegedly if you add a closing quote to the end of the last line in /etc/pluto/bin/files.d/fstab-diskless it should fix that.

I'm having the same problem. I noticed a bug report in Trac mentioning this
