Users / Can't add Radio station
« on: November 11, 2011, 05:42:09 pm »
Running 10.04, I followed this guide from the wiki:

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Internet_Radio

However there are no assignable attributes for LINUXMCE streamed audio media-type, so I can not add a Genre or Channel Name. How can I fix this?

Users / 1004 apt-get upgrade downloads all packages
« on: November 08, 2011, 09:16:23 pm »
Likely this is a basic question because I don't really understand the apt package updating system...

I'm running 1004 and every day when I run apt-get upgrade it downloads 440MB of packages:

Code: [Select]
lmce-autotagger lmce-game-db lmce-launch-manager lmce-linux-igd lmce-mediatomb
  lmce-mythtv-scripts lmce-picture-plugin lmce-picture-viewer lmce-skins-slate lmce-skins-titanium lmce-skins-uita
  lmce-update-system mce-diskless-tools pluto-add-software pluto-app-server pluto-asterisk pluto-avwizard
  pluto-avwizard-skin-basic pluto-boot-scripts pluto-capture-card-scripts pluto-confirm-dependencies pluto-convert-mac
  pluto-createdevice pluto-database-settings pluto-dcecommon pluto-dcerouter pluto-dhcpd-plugin pluto-disc-drive-functions
  pluto-disk-drive pluto-disk-monitor pluto-dummy-console-tools pluto-dynamic-dns pluto-generic-serial-device
  pluto-hal-device-finder pluto-hald pluto-hdhomerun pluto-install-scripts pluto-libresolution pluto-libserial
  pluto-local-database pluto-mcr-remote pluto-media-database pluto-messagesend pluto-messagetrans pluto-mythtv-plugin
  pluto-network-storage pluto-newmdinteractor pluto-orbitergen pluto-orbiterinstaller pluto-photo-screen-saver
  pluto-pluto-main-db pluto-pluto-media-db pluto-pluto-security-db pluto-pluto-telecom-db pluto-plutodhcp pluto-plutoutils
  pluto-pnp-detection pluto-proxy-orbiter pluto-qos pluto-ra pluto-raid-tools pluto-remoteassistance pluto-sample-media
  pluto-sdl-helpers pluto-security-database pluto-serializeclass pluto-shiftstate pluto-simplephone pluto-skins-basic
  pluto-slim-server-streamer pluto-slimserver-plugin pluto-sound-card-scripts pluto-sqlcvs pluto-std-plugins
  pluto-storage-devices pluto-system-database pluto-telecom-database pluto-test-serial-port pluto-text-to-speech
  pluto-updateentarea pluto-updatemedia pluto-voicemail-monitor pluto-website-admin pluto-windowsce-libraries
  pluto-x-scripts pluto-xine-player pluto-xine-plugin pluto-zwave-lighting

Doesn't look in SVN like all of these packages have been updated recently. (When 810 was under development, apt-get upgrade would only upgrade packages which had updates)

Is my 1004 system behaving as it should?

Users / GC-100 Expansion Cards
« on: October 21, 2011, 06:20:08 pm »
A difference between the GC-100-12 and GC-100-18 is the number of "expansion slots"... Yet global cache nor any of its distributors seem to make any mention of these expansion products being available for sale... is this a future item?

If I want more than 6 contact closure sensors today, is the best thing to buy multiple GC-100 units?

Users / Question for Hari RE ZWave
« on: October 20, 2011, 06:02:44 am »
Hari,

I had some nodes "fall off" my LMCE Z-wave network and running HomeSeer's optimize seemed to rescue them.

Is there any similar feature available or planned in LMCE? (Or perhaps your driver routinely does this on its own?)

Cheers,

David

Users / Security Config - Backup Alarm Disarm
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:23:33 pm »
Hi all,

I'm planning my security system, and will be using my smartphone as the primary means of changing house modes and accessing security features.

In the instance that my smartphone battery dies (or cell network goes down, etc) I'm wondering what backup interface people typically use to enter their home. I was initially thinking of using a Z-wave door lock and having a keyed-unlock event disarm the house, but I read that LMCE doesn't support Z-wave door locks (yet).

I could place a tablet orbiter near the inside of the house entrance or something, but it's not ideal from a cost or wiring POV.

Cheers,

Dave

Users / MD Power On/Off Behavior
« on: October 17, 2011, 05:08:47 am »
Hydro is no longer included in my rent and so I am becoming obsessed with saving electricity (aka money).

A few questions:

1) If my MD is idle for a time (as specified in webadmin/orbiters) my AV peripherals (plasma TV, receiver, etc) get turned off. Is it possible to have my MD suspend in addition to turning off these peripherals? I poked around a bit in "respond-to-events" but couldn't find an event for an idle-timeout type thing.

2) When I power off my MD via the power menu, is it possible to first have it turn off my peripherals? Is there an editable scenario for this, or is it auto-generated? Likewise, when my MD powers up via the power menu, can I have it turn on my peripherals once the associated devices are started?

3) When my MD is powered down and I select an action via the orbiter such as play media, or any other action which requires the MD to be ON, can I have the MD turn on and then execute that action?

4) My MD takes 1:15 to resume from suspend-from-RAM. 80% of the resume seems to be starting the various LMCE devices. What might I do to speed this up?  What is the likely bottle-neck for this process?

Gigabit network, both the MD and CORE are 5600+ Athlon X2s with 2G RAM. Core runs on 7200RPM drives. Would an SSD in the core help much?

As you can see here, I'd like to reduce the number of button pushes that SWMBO needs to do to access various media/functions and save as much power as possible :)

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Users / [SOLVED] 10.04 Serial Control Bug
« on: October 01, 2011, 06:15:44 am »
Serial control of my TV seems to be broken in 10.04. I suspect there is an issue with ListSerialPorts.sh because it is returning

Code: [Select]
/dev/ (pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0+3)
Whereas LinuxMCE 0810 returns:

Code: [Select]
/dev/ttyUSB0 (pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0+2:1.0)
Has anyone else got serial control working in 10.04?

Users / Inexpensive and Compact Audio Streaming Device

Logitech killed the Squeezebox Receiver
Roku killed the Soundbridge

I want to buy something that's going to be supported by the manufacturer, and obviously by LinuxMCE.

What are my options?

Users / 0810 Final Released

Sorry if I'm stepping on anyone's toes, but I just noticed that the final version is available for download at

http://linuxmce.iptp.org/release/

Is this the same as the RC? Haven't seen any version updates to the wiki since the RC.

Users / [SOLVED] RS232 Bug?
« on: May 27, 2011, 05:59:19 am »
I just did my first update in a few months and lost my TV's RS232 control. I discovered in webadmin that all the control codes had their slashes removed.

For example, what was previously
Code: [Select]
<$"\x02POF\x03"$>
is now
Code: [Select]
<$"x02POFx03"$>
and it won't let me re-insert the slashes.

1. Is this a bug?
2. Is there a workaround?

Thanks,

Dave

Users / New KDE Login
« on: March 13, 2011, 10:09:36 pm »
Strange issue. I haven't done any updates in three weeks, or changed any settings in the last week, but this morning my core was hung so I rebooted and got the following:

- KDE login screen (no onscreen messages about devices starting etc). The login screen looks new and not like it used to under original 8.10. FWIW it now has a grey background with white "dots" sprinkled about.

- Devices launch no problem, except for core media director devices ex #21 (on-screen orbiter for the core).

- I now have to login through the KDE login prompt before these devices launch.

Why would this behaviour have changed on its own? I'm concerned that my system has been compromised/modified by an unauthorized user.

Thanks

Dave

Users / Bug Fixing our way to an RC
« on: October 18, 2010, 04:30:32 pm »
I'm starting this thread so as to stop derailing the "TouchOrbiter - Auto-configuring new orbiter" thread.

I'd really like to contribute to bug-fixing but find I'm being held back by some of the issues that are being discussed in the aforementioned thread. One thing that might help is if the more experienced devs can identify some bugs that would be easier for the less experienced to tackle (if there are any). That way, the experienced devs can focus on the bugs that only they (at present) can tackle, and we have a more efficient system of delegation.

I know this creates more work for the devs in the short term, but I'd like to think it would be a good investment in the long haul.

Users / Weborbiter 2.0 on Iphone/Ipod/Ipad
« on: July 07, 2010, 10:29:20 pm »
Just wanted to share my experiences so far and discuss some opportunities for improvement. I'm very happy with the changes in this version! Attached is a picture of the new weborbiter on my iphone running (480x320) in full screen mode.

Things I've noticed:

1) the status bar (reception, time, battery level) covers the top of the image making the top buttons unusable. I would think we could introduce some white space at the top of the page to shift everything down appropriately. Would this best be implemented in weborbiter or within the rendered images?

2) there is whitespace on the bottom and right of the rendered image. I would think we should ideally have have the 480x320 rendered image fill the screen (but not fall under the top status bar) with the home, back, refresh, exit, logout buttons appearing only when scrolled to.

3) a working 16:9 UI1 variant would make much better use of the real estate.

Otherwise, aside from the sometimes difficult to read text (I assume due to image compression) it looks and works great, MUCH better than v1.0!

Cheers,

Dave
